You Are...
Mike Hauser Apr 2014
You are my weakness
You are my strength
You are the moment I cling to
When in comes the need

You are my sorrow*
You are my joy
You are the take every day
And add a bit more

You are the hidden
Out in plain sight
You are the second that dawn
First kisses daylight

You are the calm
That follows the storm
The last splash of the ocean wave
You are the shore

You are the here
Inside of the now
The long awaited escape
*When you've found me out

The Slow Road To Glory
Mike Hauser Jun 2016
I've been on this road from the beginning
And I'll be on it till the very end
Some days I feel like I'm winning
Others like I don't stand a chance

But I always have the hope and the comfort
Of the good Lord holding my hand
As through this world here I wander
All in Gods timing and plan

Traveling on the slow road to Glory
Each day growing into the next
Giving over all of my worries
As Jesus only wants for me what's best

I follow closely the instructions
To keep me out of life's ditch
In the Good Book are all the directions
As I keep moving ahead

Doing my best to stay straight in the middle lane
Not drifting to the right or the left
God, he knows my intentions
And with all of that being said

I'm traveling on the slow road to Glory
Each day better than the rest
Feeling an urgency but no hurry
As Jesus only wants for me what's best

And when it is that I do reach the end
My soul will finally be set free
No more potholes of sorrow or speed bumps of sin
Leaving behind life's misery

Traveling on the slow road to Glory...

my innie
Mike Hauser Sep 2015
These days my innie is more of an innie
The more outie my belly becomes
I no longer think of it as a button these days
But more of a deep dark hidden cavern

One that holds many mysterious treasures
From oodles of lint to colorful twine
If you'd rather not know then it's best you don't go
On too deep a search and rescue recon

Cause in my innie you may never come outie
Just remember my friend you've been warned
There are places you know you never should go
That will leave you battle scarred and torn

I'm now thinking that I'm more than a little off track
On this poem of my belly button
It started off fine before it took a nose dive
And lost out on that special something

That I always strive in my deep thoughtful writes
Of which you all know I have many
Now where was I at...I remember now, Oh Yea!
Did I mention that I have an innie

I Love Me & You Love You
Mike Hauser Dec 2015
Right here right now I'll speak the truth
That I love me and you love you
Though we both know that it should be
I love you and you love me

As selfish as this all may sound
There's so much of it that goes around
If I don't love me then who will
I'm the only one that fits the bill

What we say and what we do
Is not so much the hidden truth
It's easy to be apart of the group
Of I love me and you love you

I'm sure it comes as no surprise
The way we feel in our own eyes
No need to look around and see
I only want what's best for me

It's in the nature of this man
To want to be the main event
Yet still there's hope one day we'll see
That I love you and you love me

Most always...
Mike Hauser Jan 2014
I live in a state of perpetual change
Most always...

You can find me there without a care
On most days...

As I loosely hold on to the tight
To what I perceive to be the last of the light
Borrowing what's left from the wrong side of right
Most always...

Letting loose the perpetual groove
Most always...

What I like to do is as old as it is new
On most days...

With no breeze I like flying my kite
In the bright  sun counting stars in the sky
Secretly hoping and wishing I might
Most always...

I find the old in the new with perpetual clues
Most always...

Then I sell them all back to the youth
On most days...

I pull on the string that lights up the sun
I make number two out of two number ones
I'll add a dab of not yet to a mixture of done
Most always...

Another Question?
Mike Hauser Aug 2014
If the clowns in the government

Started telling the truth

Did they add too much gin at their martini lunch

Or to little vermouth
Mike Hauser Jun 2014
As I look around today
It truly saddens me
When I see my brothers and sisters
Bound in modern day slavery

We now rely on the government
To supply our every need
Where'd you go home of the brave
Land of the free

What happened to the days
We did for ourselves
Where there was a will there was a way
Where a way there was a will

When we wanted something
We didn't have empty hands out
We grabbed ahold the grinding stone
Placed hands on the plow

All we seem to do now a day's
Is collect a check in our woe is me
In the home of the not so brave
Land of the not so free

Like I said when I look around today
It truly saddens me
When I see my brothers and sisters
Bound in modern day slavery
I do understand there are times when people do need assistance from the government but there are far too many taking advantage of the system.

I've had this smile
For quite a while
The only problem is it's upside down

Some people I know
Won't let it go
That say it's not a smile but a frown

But I say no way
Not on this face
That's not what this smile is about

What it really is
Now pay attention to this
Is a smile that's just missing out

Of all the fun
In having someone
Change the shape of its mouth

Will you be that one
To help it along
So this smile can be turned around

Major Tom to Rocket Man
Mike Hauser Jul 2014
Countdown 5, 4, 3, 2, 1

Major Tom to ground control
I fear Rocket Man is growing old

Spending life in outer space
Wonders at the progress made
Floating between these satellites
In this his so called spaced out life

Afraid he was right when he said
The planet Mars is no place for kids
Filling his Tin Can with salty tears
Crying for his home all these years

Ground control to Rocket Man
There's no future in your plans
When there's no place for you to land
In this space of high demand

For Rocket Man and Major Tom
Time has treated you both so wrong
In this game of universal control
Light years away you lost your souls

With the mission to secure
New found worlds for dying Earth
Which has gone from bad to worse
Joining others in this age old curse

Rocket Man to ground control
I fear Major Tom is growing old

Souvenir
Mike Hauser Mar 2017
Some people treat love like a souvenir
A trinket all shiny and new
Purchased at the time
from a beach side five and dime
Something that they can cling to

They might hang it on their set of keys
Pull it out when there's a need of remembering
That they used to find
they loved the way that it shined
When it was new in the beginning

But souvenirs become tattered and frayed
As most if not all are cheaply made
It's a more than common fact
when you treat the love that you have
Like a souvenir, love wastes away

I have no regrets
The past I have left
Debauchery and sin about did me in
Till God held out his hand

God held out his hand
Where no words need be said
Pulled from the pit that leads to death
Just as his word says

Just as his word says
Erased this sinner's past
Died for my mistakes, Heaven celebrates
A promise he has kept

A promise he has kept
Took on this sinner's debt
Took it on himself so I'd be here to tell
That I have no regrets

Raised Right
Mike Hauser Apr 2016
Raised me up, raised me right
On my knees in Glories light
Enlightening of this childish mind
Reaching for the very heights

Raised me tuff, raised me strong
Taught me lessons, right and wrong
Truthful as the day is long
How a Father would a son

Raised me to the tune of truth
A grip so tight it won't shake loose
In all I say and all I do
Raised me to be just like you

Raised me in the thick of things
With the best of up bringings
In what you can and can not see
Raised me right in word and deed

Raised me to a "T" without fault
Raised me in the name of love
Mirror, mirror on the wall
I am my Father after all

Our Song
Mike Hauser Jun 2017
So far so good
This life of what we did we could
As we did it both together

Thirty years or more we've hummed along
To this our marriage song
From the brightest tunes to one day one of us won't be here

We've both had our ups and downs
Like life notes upon the scale
Some were sharp while others fell flat

We always strove for the right note
From octaves high to octaves low
Where we learned love is so often sung like that

As the the sound of our years begins to fade
One of us will leave while the other stays
As life here has never been a promise of forever

Although forever in the heart
Will be the first one to depart
In the one unlucky enough to be left alone here

Much too soon there'll come the song
When one of us is left alone
I hope it's not me and that it's you

Because life without your melody
Would be out of tune for me
But if you do dear, please don't go too soon

Taking Care Of Business
Mike Hauser Oct 2015
The thing about you and me babe
We're like two peas in a pod
You go to work every morning
I stay at home with no job

But don't worry that's okay
Somehow we'll both survive
I'll take care of the business
You do your 9 to 5

Oh, I almost forgot the kid next door
Says he's going to do the lawn
Could you leave some money for him this time
It's embarrassing when I have none

I see that bothers you but that's okay
You do the best you can
You only let it happen once
And I'm an understanding man

Of course when it comes down to it
It's hard to get much done really
With so much action going on
The daytime soaps on T.V.

So you run along now and have fun
The rent is due next week
And we don't want the landlord throwing us
Out in the middle of the street

Later that day....

Honey, I know you've had a hard day at work
So I ordered us both something to go
If it's not too much trouble
Could you pick it up on your way home

You know I know what you like
It's your favorite Chinese
There's really no need to thank me
I'm just here to please

And don't worry after dinner
I'll clean up the mess
Certainly can't be having you
Worry your pretty little head

You can just sit back and relax
Take time to unwind
In fact the trash will be here in the morning
You and I need some snuggle time

There's a good game on the tube
Or maybe go early to bed
So you'll be all fresh in the morning
To get up and do it all over again

Lord,
*You see me as a saint
While I see myself a sinner
You see me on the next page
As I'm stuck on this one dog eared
You see me as beyond myself
I see me where I'm at
You see me like nobody else
Please help me to grasp that fact

Lord,
You see me through your sacrifice
I fall down on my knees
You see me through the breath of life
In you I need to breathe
You see me in pure love
A love I'd love to have
You tell me that you are enough
Please help me to grasp that fact

Lord,**
     *You see me in eternity
     I see myself finite
You see me beyond the veil of humanity
I've yet to turn on that light
You see me as your greatest creation
I see all that I lack
     Over me you have elation
Please help me to grasp that fact

They've brought in a new factory to town
One for the making of clouds
As there's a desperate need for shady relief
To take a bit of the bite out of the sun's bitter heat

Where they're trying something new that's never been done
Adding splashes of color to add to the fun
So when the newly formed clouds swirl out of the stacks
They won't be the typical doldrum of white, gray, and black

There'll be purples and blues, reds, oranges, and yellows
Pinks mixed with greens as the clouds flow and billow
And just when the wind causes the clouds to collide
There'll be a rainbow of colors that will pour from the sky

Who woulda, coulda, shoulda
Beyond a reasonable doubt
Ever imagined what would happen
With a factory of colorful clouds

Sandy is it over?
We don't get the news here in the woods
No cable in the caves to where we all ran away
When we heard what you'd planed to do

Has the cold harsh wind subsided
Can we all come out from hiding
Sandy we ain't lying
When we say this was all very frighting

Sandy is it over?
Is the world now a happy place
Can I call the furry woodland creatures out
Let them know it's once again safe to frolic and play

Bambi and Thumper are still shaking
The Mantis are still praying
Quite the shock waves you were making
What with the way you were behaving

Sandy is it over?
Will the world tilt back now on it's axis
Will the Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Tornadoes cease and desist
Can our Gluteus Maximus now relax on us

Can't say it wasn't a thrill
We're just thankful that no one was killed
Remember you do this again and we will
Pack our bags and head back to the hills

At times we may be fat, dumb, and lazy
But with all of the above we ain't crazy
Sandy is it over?
My second and final installment to my friends 3 day cleanse...
I think she survived!

believe it or not
beg, steal, or borrow
with all that you've bought
soon come tomorrow
all may be lost

such is life...

as you live for today
in no time you find
it's been taken away
hold back in silence
or shout out your say
in total defiance
as you do it your way

such is life...

when there's only one
hurtled through space
third rock from the sun
always last place
is how most mostly run
as we come face to face
with the coming undone

such is life...

the good with the bad
happy go lucky
tug of heart sad
the taking of much
with the no giving back
such is life

Adulting
Mike Hauser Jul 2024
This thing they call adulting
Isn't as easy as it looks
Far more than a three-ring circus
Constantly jumping through fiery hoops

Paying toll at the local freak show
To watch the incredibly aging man
One thing though they don't let on
Is how fast the hourglass runs out of sand

Bombarded by those who step on your toes
When all you want to be, is to be left alone
Take my advice and stay on your side
Hey! You Kids!! Get Off My Lawn!!!

This thing they call adulting
Is a hard way to make a living
Where you're expected to know what to do
At any given minute

And oh, what a thrill this hill of mounting bills
There was nothing like this when I was a kid
I was just along for the ride, biding my time
Not a single worry when I had Mom and Dad

Now with every ache and pain that comes my way
They say welcome to the club
I never had a clue I'd be paying these dues
My best guess is, it's all just part of the rub

Adulting isn't as easy as they make it look...

Like Jesus did

In the wilderness
Commune with God
On a one on one

Let go of the grasp
That I have
On worthless things
That soon will pass
Can I see life
As it really is
Betrayer of truth
In it's Judas kiss
Apply your word
From the moment heard
To the hardened heart
For a righteous cure
Can this I do
In Jesus' name
So my wilderness

Perfect weather for the dip
Pray for it 100%
Some will step outside mouths open wide
As Au Jus falls from the sky

But don't stay out too long you might get burned
As Au Jus pours down rather warm
Take it from me it's best to eat
When the Au Jus is through puddling

Before a swift wind blows in from the South
Taking with it the thickening clouds
To leave us all with sandwich in hand
Waiting for it to rain Au Jus again

time struggles at the test

time closes it's hand

This poem is being edited
From all the wrongs you read
The mistakes I've made along the way
Are not for the eyes to see

There are words that lose all their meaning
Turning misspelling into an art
Or the flow don't go the way it's suppose
Because of misplaced punctuation! marks

And I too often rely on spell check
To move my poems along
Which can turn my enemy into enema
I guess that's not too far off

There's so much more to poetry these days
Than running out of thoughts and ink
And me with only half a brain
It takes twice as much time to think

So while this poem is being edited
Please sit back and relax

The Intervention
Mike Hauser Nov 2015
My family planed an intervention
On mine and their behalf
They see what I am doing and the trouble that's brewing
With the problem that I have

Seems no matter where it is I go
The gym, the bank, the grocery store
I look for opportunities
To make some sort of joke

And it kind of makes them nervous
When they hang around with me
As they see my mind a-itching and my eyes begin a-twitching
Looking for someone to listen as I begin to speak

They take me by the hand, with the nodding of their heads
In a frantic back and forth motion
Saying now's not the time to be the funny guy
Apparently my family is all knowing

But I really can not help myself
With my long list of funny sayings
Still I will bite my tongue till another chance comes along
To say something hilariously amazing

Of course I sometimes realize
What I find funny in my noggin
Once it hits the air is like barbed wire underwear
And deserves a good old fashion flogging

That's why I'm now sitting in this room
With the intervention on my behalf
As they explain what I am doing and the trouble it's brewing
This little problem that I  have...
My wife told me the other day my kids were planning an intervention....

The world takes out its blade
And whittles away
On all that you do
On all that you say

Pared to the bone are you
Naked without cover
All of your dignity stripped away
Nothing is left in the souls bay

Sometimes though its blades
Are ***** and dull
As it whittles you
Into something you're not

The disfigurement of you
At the cruel knife's behest
Where a lasting scar
Stays ingrained in your breast

You find you slowly bleed out
From what you once were
Beginning to end
Carved up by the world

The redeemable pieces of yourself are pasted together
To go forward with the tools of hope
The spirit within is broken
But in this life you find a way to cope
Another collaboration with my friend from down under!

The Battle
Mike Hauser Apr 2015
There's a battle that I am constantly in
Between poetry and reasoning
Most times before I even begin
Poetry wins

This battle is not fought with guns and knives
But with the constant bombardment of verses and rhymes
Attacking every corner of my fragile mind
Forcing me over to its poetic side

Where I'll live out my days as a prisoner of war
With poetry's guards watching the door
With no comfort for me as I carry the torch
Where once again poetry wins if your keeping score
I'm not sure anyone else goes through this but I feel like I'm in a constant battle with poetry. It has truly taken over my life and no matter how hard I try I can't stop....and so the battle continues.

Then with a running start on that day I'll depart

Would you like to trade
With me for just one day
I'll take what you have
And you can take my place
It might do us good
To bring about a change
If we traded places
For a single day

I'll take all your problems
And you take all of mine
We might find the answers
If given enough time
It's easier sometimes to see
From a different side
From another perspective
From another's life

Then we both can trade back
When it is we're done
Perhaps apologize
If we did each other wrong
I'm sure it would open up our eyes
To a lot that's going on
Teach us much about ourselves
All the do's and don'ts

A little give, a little take
If we decide to trade
I'm not saying forever
But just for today
Give ourselves if nothing else
That much needed break
So what do you say
Do you want to trade

this company is heading straight to the top
with our new improved line of fairy farts
soon our catch phrase will be all over the place
a slight touch of magic in a jar

first and foremost a disclaimer though
in the making of farts not one fairy was harmed
we house and feed, take care of their every need
so there's no need for alarm

once we discovered how the ***** could be used
down here on fairy farm
we've had all our men chase after them
capturing bottom barks into a jar

then by hand we transfer them
from pint up to gallon size
to be used all the way from laundry detergent
to a line of makeup that's soft on the eyes

we even have samples of candles
bath and body works just bought the whole lot
plus it runs machines cheaper than gasoline
so far the highest bid is from Exon

we're also in talks of a contract
with a highly secretive govern(mental) agency
who wants all the gas with no questions asked
but on that we'll have to wait and see

in the mean time our workers continue to bottle it up
all the fairy farts from all the fairy butts
it's a job that flatuates deep to the heart
but with this job what's not to love

as you watch the fairies flutter to and fro
hearing the cute little ***** wherever they go
who would have guessed who could have known
how much a business like this would grow

Lord, help me to be that as a child
When it comes to prayer
The innocence with which they're blessed
Under your gentle tender care

Deep within my soul I know
The child of innocence has found assurance
With your love and protection always there
Given at a moments notice

Because when a child's world is in turmoil
That is when they reach out their hands
Where no words need be spoken
As God the Father always understands

He is the child's Savior as he is for me
I need the faith of a child in the midst of catastrophe
Instead of thinking I can do it all on my own
I need only give him that faith knowing he has been here all along
And will continue to be long after I'm gone...

Love's Elusiveness
Mike Hauser Feb 2015
Why is love at times elusive
Why does it feel the need to hide
Why can't it come out in the open
And hold hands with you and I

Why does it claim to be adventurous
Then gets lost out in the world
Why is it when love it is I mention
Your nowhere to be found girl

Why does love take you up so high
Why does love bring you down so low
Why can't love make up it's mind
Those of us in need of love would really love to know

~The Line~
Mike Hauser Jun 2016
At what point will we say we've had enough
At what point will we give it up
The way things are going it's hard to find
Where in the sand to draw the line

Seems we're shooting from the hip
For so long now we're used to it
Fill free to place the call, it's your dime
But who's on the other end of the line

How early is too soon and too soon late
Is there a do over, over our mistakes
With enough light we should see the signs
Then maybe we could find the line

When did we start to love our love for hate
And do we remember if there ever was a day
I would do for you and you would do in kind
As we both grip hands on the line

And as the end defends its wanderlust
When it comes for each and every one of us
My hope is that is takes its own sweet time
As we are all waiting patiently in the line

Wino
Mike Hauser Feb 2015
She started out a social drinker
Socializing now all the time
At first her taste was all over the place
Then she settled for the flavor of wine

Wine is now her favorite go to
Whenever things get a little ruff
It gives her the feeling she's doing okay
Cause she never hits the harder stuff

And with one glass at lunch she wouldn't call it a crutch
Just a little something to help her on her way
Being high noon it always helps to smooth
The wrinkles in the rest of the day

Pretty soon though she'd bring the bottle home
To take the edge off what life has made
Just a glass or two to carry her through
Till the troubles magically melted away

She never considered herself a wino
As she doesn't live down on skid row
Does she need a sign painted in day glow
For the truth to really be known

The Sound Of Silence
Mike Hauser Jul 2013
Say, can you hear it...the sound of silence
Spoken of by poets before our time
Sung in song to the masses
Given meaning inside the rhyme

I take it in...the sound of silence
And give to it a needed home
Away from the noise of this generation
A place that it can call its own

It whispers thanks...the sound of silence
Then goes and sleeps off in a corner
Where it is the sound of silence
Can't be bothered anymore

american dream
Mike Hauser May 2013
where did it go

the american dream

slipped out through the tear

in the front porch screen

living in a cardboard box

on deserted streets

welcome to the nightmare

of the american dream

~ Broke Town ~
Mike Hauser Oct 2013
People often ask me
Where it is I'm living
The only thing I have to say is
I'm doing more giving than I'm gettin''
They all just nod their heads
Knowing where this conversations bound
And where it is I now reside

~ Broke Town ~

We have people always moving in
To the city daily
If you'd asked me this years ago
I would of said you're crazy
After all this is America
Where riches can be found
But it doesn't seem that way no more

~ Broke Town ~

With our new formed government
Taking care us
It's no wonder this once mighty nation
Is on the verge of bust
Have to figure that what goes up
Must eventually come crashing down
And wouldn't you know it's just our luck

~ Broke Town ~

One day it is I hope to move
Somewhere far away
But that can be so hard to do
In any town these days
For in the lap of luxury
I have no need to be found
I just wanna be outta

Travels
Mike Hauser May 2014
Bought ourselves a ticket on a Greyhound bus
We're both are outta here
Just me and my baby which makes the both of us
The way ahead is clear

We watched the city as it passed away
Reincarnated into wide open plains
She told me, once she'd heard this song
And would I like to play the game

So we played with the faces on that bus
She said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy
I told her these days you don't know who you can trust
So be careful of his Bow tie

We traveled from one side of America to another
Then we did it all over again
Where we lived a life time from cover to cover
Two in the Mid West

We finally settled where we both felt free
Out on that wide open plain
We like where we're at but if we ever feel the need
We'll get back on that bus again
The bus game is losely taken from the song America sung by Simon and Garfunkel.

Death It Shows No Mercy
Mike Hauser Dec 2014
Death it shows no mercy
On this side or that
Leave those left behind wondering
Just where it is your at
Are you over yonder
Knocking on the gates Hell
Eternity is a living
Brought on by yourself
Death it shows no mercy
On this side or that

Death it shows no mercy
On this side or beyond
As the roses drop on your grave box
Last kindly act from those in line
Your memory is a gravestone
Polished a shiny shade of gray
Reminder of the bitter truth
Chiseled on your dying day
Death it shows no mercy
On this side or beyond

Death it shows no mercy
Over ruling life
Eternity is forever
In which you now abide
Along the wide winding path you drove
Crashing at a tender age
To late now you know
To late to be saved
Death it shows no mercy
Over ruling life

Your Choice (Choose Wisely)
Mike Hauser Nov 2015
You have a choice in how you choose
A wrongful don't a rightful do
Along the path of win or lose
It really is all up to you

Move back and forth from side to side
Veer to the left, stay to the right
Try as hard with all your might
Let your conscience be your guide

Or has your conscience lost its way
In the decisions that it makes
On your walk from day to day
The rocky path that it has laid

Where to the right there is a cliff
A steep climb on the left
Keep your eyes straight ahead
When all is done and all is said

You have a choice in how you choose
A wrongful don't a rightful do
Along the path of win or lose
It really is all up to you

CANCER
Mike Hauser Apr 2017
I do not like the sound
of what I just found out
After all the aftershock
might just take me down
It's hard to whisper CANCER
when CANCER screams out loud
A sucker punch in the gut
to knock the breath right out

Leaving in the questioning
of how much time is left
Also in the wondering
of how you measure it
What is the first to give out
the body or courage
And is there a way that I can change
from out of this death mask

Pull the covers tighter
the days are growing cold
Feel free my love to tidy up
sweeping hair from off the floor
This isn't at all how
life was to unfold
Never thought being this young
would make me feel so old

I wish you could take this from me
and toss it in the trash
Digging deep at this disease
until there's nothing left
I don't know who to quote
but I'm sure someone has said
It's hard to whisper CANCER
with CANCER screaming in your head
I've lost too many friends to cancer and have one right now losing the battle...

Just To Get Elected...
Mike Hauser Oct 2016
Is there nothing they wont do
The depths that they'll sink to
Moral hypocrisy they'll let loose
Underhanded that they will use

Just to get elected...

Lies that they perceive
Putting ***** in the ***** deeds
Nothing at that they wont sneeze
Open Hell's gates and set them free

Just to get elected...

Tell us what we want to hear
Playing off our biggest fears
The headlights to our road deer
Always sounding so sincere

Just to get elected...

Tell us that they do but don't
Tell us that they will but won't
All in hopes they don't get caught
Never ever taking fault

Just to get elected...

Digging up the buried past
20-30 years at best
Never giving it a rest
Is this what we're left with

Just to get elected...

It's not like we have not been warned
They're the early birds and we're the worms
As they tell us no need to be alarmed
They mean us no physical harm

Just to get elected...

Remember this is the dating game
What you see is the well behaved
All I've got to say is just you wait
There's a big difference between do and say

With the elected...
