Three special words that I need to hear
As I hold you close, as I draw you near
Please make it clear
Whisper in my ear
Those three words that I need to hear

When I hear those words I will make them mine
Three simple words make up the perfect line
I love to hear time after time
Would it be such a crime
To want to hear them in prime time

Why is it so hard to let those words go
You can say them fast or you can say them slow
On the tip of your tongue wont you let them flow
Those three words that I need to know

To tell the truth
It should have been you
Who authored this sad poem

Instead of me
Who clearly didn't see
Your lies as they were told

The heart ache that I'm feeling
Goes beyond the measure of this man
The emptiness left inside my chest
Should be yours my dear instead

To tell the truth
It should be you
That's crying over me

Instead of the reverse
Held deep in this curse
Of what's hard to believe

If I had known
It would read out in poem
This pen you could have kept

As I guard my heart
Yes, even the aching part
With what little I have left

Midsummer Remembrances
Mike Hauser Jun 2014
There's a certain nostalgia that comes along with summer
In on the warm breeze as it blows
A remembrance of us as young lovers
In a time set long ago

Old days never forgotten
Your touches made with devotion
Yet a loophole enlarges in my bones
Due to the pining of the past that overwhelms my soul

As I hold fast to the new days beginning
Clinging tight to the dreams that it brings
Where I find that life is worth living
If living with you is what it all means

Our moments in the sand long buried
In my heart that is carried away from this world
Further to another place where I gaze at your beautiful face
And that voice that echos along with every pulse of my core
Another collaboration with the lovely Mina Steele...

~Beautiful Day~
Mike Hauser May 2014
Today is such a beautiful day
I'm lining my pockets with leftovers
So all the bits and pieces I save
Can be enjoyed for later

Once I get the day back home
And lay it out on the table
I'll take canning jars and put it all in
Each one with a different label

I'll label one "The Perfect Sunshine"
Another "The Right Amount Of Clouds"
I'll put "The Cool Breeze and Birds Song" both together
They'll mix well when I let them out

I'll add the laughter of the children
Cheerfully in their play
The fragrance of flowers in the fields
To my jars of beautiful day

There's no need to put a date on them
A day like this could never go bad
Perhaps I will add a special note
Open...for the best day you've ever had

~Who Do You Say That I Am~
Mike Hauser Jan 2014
Some say I was only a carpenter
Some say a delusional madman
Some say one of the prophets
All a part of a great scam

Some say I am the beginning
Some say as well as the end
Some say the way to salvation
The last sacrificial lamb

Some say only a good man
Some say like all of the rest
Some say another figure in history
That is nothing more than the past

Some say I'm their reason for living
Some say this while down on their knees
Some say I'm at the heart of forgiving
Being their greatest need

Some say I'm a prop for the weakened
Some say for me there is no need
Some say a man made illusion
To keep the world from being free

Some say the Son of the Almighty
Some say to bring redemption to man
Some say life holds no meaning without me

~My Morning Routine~
Mike Hauser Feb 2014
5:30 am...I hit the snooze
To turn off the obnoxious sound
All I do is delay
The morning melee
As the sound rolls back around

Quarter till six I remove all the sticks
From my eyes also known as sleep
My feet hit the floor
As mutts scratch on my door
A reminder of what's to be

My four furry friends at once all descend
As I open my bedroom door
I make my way through
The mine field I knew
My dogs strategically placed out the night before

I open the back as they all attack
Their imaginary foe
Like a bunch of banshees
They let out their wild screams
If I can't sleep why should my neighbors next door

As I stand in the dark with one last high pitched bark
Contemplating the sanity I lack
We go back inside
A slight tear in my eye
To get ready for work where it is I go to relax

Your Cadillac
Mike Hauser Mar 2017
I'd love to be your Cadillac
Run you from state to state
Always have you there on time
Make sure you're never late

I'd come equipped with the plushest seats
For you to cuddle in
Temperature set at the perfect degree
Blowing on your silky skin

Enjoying the taste of freedom
Out on the open road
As we hum along static free
To the tunes on my FM radio

I'd come in an array of colors
All meant to compliment
Trimmed in shiny chrome to make you feel at home
So home you'll never miss

I'd love to be your Cadillac
For me there'd be no better fate
Than always having you ride along
As I take you state to state

Colorful Thoughts
Mike Hauser Mar 2014
If you are sad and lonely
A deeper shade of blue
If you will call me honey
I'll come and take care of you

If your man has made you angry
Where all you see is red
You've got my number baby
I'll come over and hold your hand

If you are thinking maybe
The grass is greener on this side
That's not always true lady
Cause what you have now, I could be that guy

You may have colorful thoughts of me at this moment
But these moments never last
Because every side of the road a man is on
You'll still need to cut the grass...
Can I get an AMEN to that last line! Hahaha!

An Outing with Lord Byron
Mike Hauser Feb 2017
I met Lord Byron in the pathless wood
along the lonely shore
pleasure in the rapture
a place I'd never been before
set me free beside the deep blue sea
with music in its roar
holding hands with this gentle man
as nature plays the score
making me love it even more
Another quote from my friends site I put to poetry which
was a challenge as the quote this time was a beautiful poem.

"There is pleasure in the pathless woods, there is rapture in the lonely shore, there is society where none intrudes, by the deep sea, and music in it's roar; I love not man the less, but nature more. ~ Lord Byron

If Love Was...
Mike Hauser Feb 2014
What if love was contagious
Like some sort of disease
Affecting all religions and races
Bringing the world to its knees

Where a cure is never found
Where no one even tries
A disease that for years sticks around
Contaminating all of mankind

From a kind word being said
To a hug when it's needed the most
In hopes it quickly spreads
With everyone being the host

What if love was a disease
And it was highly contagious
No need to put us all in quarantine
Because love is a disease that would save us

What If...

The soldiers of the world
All at the very same time
Laid down their mighty weapons
     And refused to fight

Walked off of the killing fields
To make their way back home
As the world stood by and watched
Would we then all get along

What If...

Those who preached of hate
     Suddenly shut their mouths
Turning from the hatred in their hearts
To find what true love is all about

Would it make a difference
In how you loved those around
Would it make a difference
     In how you loved yourself

What If...

All the leaders of the world
     Came together for one day
Locked themselves inside a room
With their advisors out of the way

Could they see each other with value
And become the best of friends
Seeing it's not just a country after all
But a world that we live in

What If...

Why oh Why,
  do we toss the dice
when the last thing we should gamble
  with is our lives

         Why oh Why,
are we so good at lies
           but often so bad
           when we try and deny

Why oh Why,
  are we not color blind
  when the color, all bleed
  is red on the inside

          Why oh Why,
            do we love the light
            but only when it shines
in the cervices of other lives

Why oh Why,
  when we go to die
  that we concentrate
  mostly on life

My Prayer
Mike Hauser Sep 2016
When my mind wanders Lord
May it wander to the wonder of you
When it thinks a lie is right
Help it in clinging to your truth

When my heart is hardened
In an untimely flow of grief
May it be forever softened
With your ever loving heavenly beat

When my eyes try to close tight
So that they won't have to see
Open them with your Spirits wind
To look upon this world in need

And when my arms drop to my side
Help me to hold them open wide
To give to those the comfort
That only you Lord can provide

Please take off your shoes, you've entered into
The land of Nod Off And Forget
Where people try to get something done
But haven't done it yet

They forget why it is they're here
And nod off in between
They can't remember much of life
Because they sleep through the whole thing

They made for themselves a ruler
But nodded off during the vote
Forgetting who it was they chose
When it was they all awoke

So they wander around aimlessly
Not having figured it out quite yet
I'm not sure they ever will

Slathering down with margarine
Making it easier to slip and slide
As I do my very best
To squeeze my way through life

At the start of each day, pull out the Parkay
In the 5 pound economy tub
I used to butter up with a stick of Country Crock
But in the thick of life that's clearly not enough

Plus margarine is less fattening
I've read the statistics of what's going on
And believe you me when it comes to the squeeze
A fella's gotta watch his form

That's why margarine gets a 10 out of 10
When it comes to the slip and slide
As I do my best in my quest

Howling Goober
Mike Hauser Nov 2015
To battle off intruders
I hired a dog named Goober
He came to me packing heat
I think it is a Luger

He's not a German Shepard
Though his collar and holster are made of leather
He graduated Obedience School
Proudly wearing his Letter Sweater

I pay him in dog biscuits
Which cuts down on doing dishes
As we toss ideas around
When problems arise Goober licks it

He came with papers so all could see
Showing he is the best of breed
Also to lay out on the floor
In case Goober feels the need

Goober has been a great asset
All the intruders around here left
In case you feel the need to ask
...Just don't ask the cat
This popped up on my Facebook memories and it was so fun thought I'd share it again.

Mike Hauser Nov 2013
Life is one long big drawn out drag
For those in the crotch of young
Halfway out the starting gate
At the sound of the starting gun

Running into a solid wall
Called the slowing down of time
With adventure at your finger tips
Waiting just to find

Then age comes around and hits you
Like a ton of bricks
Not knowing what to expect
But you sure weren't expecting this

When your mama told you slow down child
Is this what it is she meant
Waking up on this side of
...wonder where it went

How long has your life been set on cruise
I'm guessing as long as you've been on this ride
You barely remember the town of youth
When years ago you passed it by

When you saw the exit sign
You were in the fast lane my friend
So you continue to ride, just this side of
...wonder where it went

The most precious parts in this life
Are so often wasted on the youth
Why must you show ID at the door
Before you learn that simple truth

And about the time you figure it out
Is about the time you lose
When it's to late to back out now
To late to make a choice in what you choose

Try as hard as you might
To remove life's dings and dents
Your still stuck on this side of
...wonder where it went
Mike Hauser Nov 2016
I just bought a turkey
In dire need of tenderize
Also a quick summer thaw
As this chick's as cold as ice

Must have froze it in the tundra as
I dive deep into the internet
Where it's got me wondering
Why I myself didn't think of this

It says to tie up both it's legs
With a nylon stringy thingy
Hey! Get that out your head!
This ain't nothing *****!

Hook the turkey to the bumper
And take it for a ride
I watched it from my rear view
And mirror on the side

I watched it twirl and tumble
I watched it twist and shout
I watched it as it changed its shape
From inside into out

I thought I heard it gobble
As it bounced itself along
Checking progress at every red light
Tenderized...yes, but not yet thawed

The roads must be colder this year
Than at first I thought
I hop back into my jalopy
For a few more jaunts around the block

I make it back to my place
Thinking all is perfect all is well
Untie the turkey, if that's what it is
It's a little hard to tell

Now with that part of the preparation done
With the turkey and I safe back home
I plop it into the waiting oven
And gently turn it on

Here we are a few hours later
As the conversations and good times begin
Sitting around the dinner table
My guests all marvel at my hen

There's only one slight question
And they asked me if I knew
I reply...why yes that is white meat
It's just a tad bit bruised
Tired of seeing this yet again? Hey....lighten up! It's fun!

Born To Us A Child

Born to us a child
A world that's lost it's way
All in God's plan brought about
Taking this worlds place

Growing up a man
For such a time as this
All along playing his life song
To the tune of righteousness

As through the day he'd make his way
Showing mercy to the lost
What he had to say and to display
Was straight from the Fathers love

Faithful to the call
Taking on the dirt of sin
Knowing it would take the cross
To reconcile the heart of man

Rising the third day
The day death lost its sting
God and man brought back again
To the place of harmony

When born to us a child
A world that's lost its way
All in Gods plan brought about
Taking this worlds place

Hollywood Starlet
Mike Hauser May 2014
Pure beauty as the vision
That brings about a change
In the wandering soul of the child
The beating heart of man

Angelic voice that cries out
Like that of a meadow lark
Makes the ancient traveler take a stand
And fall down where you are

Eyes deep as any ocean
Holding back the waves
Collecting all the salty tears
Is the pillow where you lay

All you really care to be
Is loved for who you are
Not who it is they think they need
Mysterious and dark

They plucked you from out of the crowd
Set you on a pedestal
More goddess like than should be aloud
Worshiping what they see yet do not know

The beauty of the moment
The Starlet of the day
Until it is we use her up
Then send her on her way

Watch Those Cracks!!!
Mike Hauser Oct 2016
Step on a crack break your mothers back
No way is she going to go down with that
So I watch what I do, the direction I move
To not hurt my mom with the steps that I choose

I even avoid the cracks that I see
Randomly placed, all taunting me
When lightening slides by, cracking the sky
I turn my back and quickly close both my eyes

Never dare do I stare when a plummer is near
At the massive crack looming from his derriere
Never thought I would find nor realize
There are so many cracks filling our lives

Now that I know I try and avoid
So my dear sweet mother can grow healthy and old
I don't swing around to the bad side of town
Where crack in a bag can be easily found

Then in my carefulness I find that I slipped
Not watching where I placed my last careless step
I let out a gasp as I hear a loud crack
Knowing full well where that crack is at

Oh all the horror, oh all the shame
That I am the one to accept all the blame
What I feared all along went terribly wrong
Now all I've got to say is...Sorry Mom

"Out There" Searching
Mike Hauser Jul 2014
We're all out there searching
For something on which to spend our time
To make us all feel better
As we move on down the line

With all these newfangled religions
Popping up like temple gardens in Kathmandu
No wonder there's so many people
Out there without a clue

With every New Age Preacher
Spouting off they know the way
Leading their blind believers
Into the pit with what they say

Where they don't need to dig any deeper
Not to overly concerned with right or wrong
Just nodding to the rhythm
Like you would a Justin Timberlake Top 40 song

All the time hoping when you die
That you've been good enough
No explanations or reasons why
You feel that way because

It's in our human nature
To always want for more
Needing questions answered
Of what the afterlife holds in store

So if you feel unsatisfied
In the search that your life is on
Pick up the good book, the Bible
And start off at page One

WAR
The reason for this fighting
is that we do not like
The attitude that's ensued
by the other side
Too big for their britches
them and all their like
That's why we're here to make it clear
and cut them down to size

A necessary evil
this fighting of the wars
All of this upheaval
but who is keeping score
In the mean time either stand in line or step aside
as we find the cure
We'll start a fad with the MOAB
in our latest killing du jour

We've taking it out upon ourselves
to be the world police
From upper North to lower South
we're bombing for relief
Making a promise to ourselves
a promise we will keep
Not resting until the entire world
has our brand of Democracy

If we have to **** to do it
then so let it be
That's just the cost of freedom
cause freedom don't come cheap
Wherever did you get the idea
that freedom would be free
So pack up your soul and conscience
those sissies you won't need

Be a good citizen
and do as you are told
There's some things that the government
would rather you not know
Just know that the bad guys
are on the other side
And all the killing that we do
is only saving lives

And since we're the men in white
You know we'd never lie

You may already know there's not a lot here but flow
It's not meant to tax anyone's mind

You might just consider it fluff
Fluff it may be but it's just enough fluff
To fill in said space while progress is made

Where all you want to do is quit
Lean over here so I can whisper in your ear
...Get over it

You think you're the only one with problems
That spends most of your time in the ditch
Here's a news flash, we've all got em
...Get over it

You whine and cry thru the struggles
In the midst of quivering lips
Time after time, questioning why
...Get over it

And with all of this being said
Still stuck in repeat believe you me
...Get over it

When the moon forces night

I'm knocked down to my knees

Memory fading from sight

Promises I'll never keep

I go and do it again

Order round after round

Might as well be a gun in my hand

Deadly shots with no sound

As the snake in the pit

Takes a bite out of me

I am chewing my lip

So much wanting to scream

Falling off of the cliff

Cause my ledge is too weak

Craziness must admit

Taking the best out of me

Sunlight makes it's first peak

Over the waters edge

In the gutter I sleep

I have made my own bed

In which I now lie

If only I were able

To give up and die

On this, my torture table

The snake in the pit

Will not let go of me

I try and shoot from the hip

To try and bring some relief

I stare at the cliff where I fell

The climb is too steep

Alcohol has a mighty grip

That brings me no peace
Each and every one of us has important dates in our lives from births to marriages, graduations to retirement and so much more. Today is important to me as it's been 25 years since my last drink (Thank you Jesus!) Not realizing it that day, as it was a terrific struggle I went through for months if not years. (You don't realize the hold alcohol truly has on you until your head clears) I pray that if anyone is struggling with this or drug issues that you seek help (there are few if any that can do this on their own) AA is a great organisation or better yet Celebrate Recovery at a local church. But wherever it is you choose to seek help please do...this is one decision you'll never regret. I know I don't!

from tones of flesh to pasty white
with the only light source being
that of florescent stars at night

as reflections in the windows
stare blankly into space
somehow have lost their purpose
in the running of the race

i look confusingly around me
at the rush just to fit in
thinking i need a different jungle
to hunt and gather in

Everyone Loses
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
Did you ever once dream
Or ever twice think
That your love for drugs
Would be all that you need

Or when you were a kid
Out of all that you did
That the habit you'd kick
Would be your innocence

On the verge of death
With little to no time left
A secret we know
But from you it's been kept

Did you not think at one time
This could be your life
And this would be the way
You'd find the way to die

May God have mercy on your soul
And the ones left out in the cold
When you're no longer here
While the rest of us grow old

Missing you more than you know
Without you here to show
But if the truth be known
We lost you a long time ago...
I've had several friends kids die from overdoses which for the addict ends the horror but for the ones left behind just continues another chapter in the book. The latest which hit me hardest is the son of a friend dying 2 weeks ago and this weekend is their daughters marriage...I couldn't even imagine.

I have a sense of wonderment
That's changed over the years
From what it was to where it went
No longer is it clear

From the dreams of a child
Into adult reality
From the beyond to the here and now
Knee deep in where life's taken me

Where once I used to stand in awe
Are now puddles of cement
As it cures I wonder where
Went my sense of wonderment

Losing track of what I had
And what I dared to dream
I often wonder when my wonderment
Decided to walk out on me

~Saturday~
Mike Hauser Apr 2016
I woke up this morning
Before the rooster started crowing
Without even knowing
What the day held out for me

Turning on the lamplight
Wiping sleep from my eyes
Waving my bed goodbye
As the floor reached for my feet

Two or three cups of coffee
I'm thinking aught to do me
Right about now justly
As I ready myself to leave

With the keys in my left hand
The right attitude of yes I can
Take this world on like a man
Just you wait and see

I bring with me my "A" game
It's a lot like "B" but less lame
Otherwise they'd both be the same
Which doesn't make sense to me

I stumble out to my car
As I no longer walk that far
Used to but not anymore
The age of modern day conveniency

Into traffic I merge
Under other drivers select verbs
Most of them 4 letter words
That cause my ears to bleed

Make it to the job on time
Earlier than expected I find
Somewhere along the way lost my mind
As it is Saturday

How to Forget
Mike Hauser Sep 2015
I'm not the only one I'm guessing
Who needs a refresher in this lesson
Not to have it stuck in but out of my head

These thoughts I can't escape
From mornings dawn to daylights late
Can someone please teach me how to forget

The ghosts of memories past haunt me
Not sure of the reason they want me
I just hope they don't keep trying my heart to the bitter end

All I want at this point is some peace
Not the daily reminding of me
In the desperate need of the lesson in how to forget

As I try and tackle time all I find
Is this tangled mess inside of my mind
The thought would be gone by now if left unsaid

But more or less remains the same
As these mind games they never seem to change
I just wish someone could teach me how to forget

gossamer
Mike Hauser Nov 2014
i played amongst the gossamer
as it floated through the air
landing in the near by grass
without the slightest care

creating a certain sparkle
as the light catches its frame
drinking of the morning dew
before the day grows late

love is an ocean

filled with regret

that i'm not through

swimming in yet

in it's waves i've struggled

most of my life

tossing and turning

pulled out by the tide

Wilson The Artist
Mike Hauser Mar 2013
This poem is about an artist
Wilson is the name that he goes by
He draws from daily experience
His medium is life

The streets, the gallery where he exhibits
That my friend is Wilson's style
With his quick wit and compliments
He paints on his subjects...smiles

Wilson feels that strong artistic pull
To take the palate of life
Sweeping brush strokes of inspiration
In an effort to paint things right

Wilson is a true artist
One of a dying breed
Takes those whose path he crosses
And draws upon their needs

I'm Not Religious
Mike Hauser Apr 2014
You say  your not religious
Well neither my friend am I
It was man that made religion
It was Christ that came for us to die

He came to earth with a purpose
And that purpose was to set us free
From the guilt, the sin, the daily shame
All chains of captivity

It was the religious leaders of his day
That used their power as a tool
It was Jesus that came to do away
With all the man made rules

Rules that held the people down
The same as they do today
Invite Jesus into your heart right now
And let freedom have its way

You say your not religious
Well neither my friend am I
It was man that made religion
It was Christ that came for us to die

I find nothing more confusing
Than words I've never heard
Or how it is that I should use them
And are they nouns or are they verbs

I thought it might be easy
To just go it on my own
So in my spare time I got busy
And formed new words of my own

Hashtagalanitus:
The art of overboard
Where you hashtag your own hashtag
While hashtaging your mom

Selfielimination
Where you focus only on yourself
Taking pictures in the mirror left and right
Just you and no one else

Moroniclination
The world in which we now live
We've always wanted to come together
Congratulations, this is it

Now that I've made my new words
Guess I should spread them everywhere
And if you don't like my ideas

~The Secret~
Mike Hauser Jul 2015
I have a secret don't you know
One that's begging to be told
Given just above a whisper
Last thing said, don't share it mister

Maybe share with just one other
I'm sure it won't go any further
In my minds pocket it burns a hole
Wanting desperately to be told

Though to share a secret is often free
There's a tremendous cost we fail to see
Holding tongues can be a must
Else we loose trust in all of us

Perhaps it's best kept to yourself
Sharing it with no one else
If you want the secret to hold tight
Don't ever let it out of your sight
Mike Hauser Dec 2015
Mr. and Mrs. Politician man
Keep on promising me
Everything I could ever want
From basic cheap to free

There must be something there
That I'm missing here
Between the insurance debacle
And my cost of living fears

When elections come around
I've really got to hand it
To the promises they make
That get more and more outlandish

They promise you cheese from the moon
And silver dust from the stars
When all I mostly need right now
Is cheap gas for my car

With vanilla being the flavor
Politicians savour as of late
They give just enough of the free stuff
But not too much away

Keeping the drones wanting for more
Where they don't feel the need to leave
Eating out of their grimy hands
Feeding off the greed

You can find them wheeling and dealing
In secret behind closed doors
In their arrogance they've forgotten
That we the people are keeping score

We'll either oust them when the time is right
Or raise the gallows and hang them high
A good lesson in the making
Perhaps they'll think twice next time before misbehaving
