*Noise*
Mike Hauser May 2016
One thing I hear
That is perfectly clear
You can never get away from the noise

Whether it be
The inside drone of the T.V.
Or outside traffic there is no choice

Wherever you go
In the daily flow
You never escape the sound

From cars right and the left
To planes overhead
There is always noise around

As your heart skips a beat
In the vibrating seat
From the bass of the car next to you

Can't clutch your ears and your chest
As you have only two hands
So you just sit there and suffer through

You would love to escape
But know of no place
Where silence could be enjoyed

As you trudge along
To the bang of the gong
With the never ending noise

have you ever taken time out
to take the time to dream
long enough to think about
what life really means
you can give it over to grandeur
or take the simple route
either way,  in or out
there's still a lot to dream about

Okay class let's settle down
We need to come to order
We are here to learn to love ourselves
Before we can love another

I know a lot of you hate your lives
And struggle with that fact
I'm sure each and everyone of you
Will benefit from this class

Now if you'll hold in front of you
This mirror just like me
So many of you in this class
Have never liked what the mirror sees

But you need to look deeper into it
And repeat the words I say
My outside it is just a shell
Deep within is where my beauty lays

The mirror sees there is not a one
That is as unique as you
God made you the way you are
You need to come into that truth

So listen very closely now
To these words I have to say
There's a beauty that shines within you
So put that beauty on display

The next time you hear your worthless
From the ones with whom you've grown
The ones that are the first to tell you that
Have issues all their own

Let's all take our mirrors now
And put them on the shelf
Now lift your hands up to the sky
And all shout, I am something else!

Hopefully I'll see you all next fall
In the class we're starting new

She's the rhythm to the reason
The good idea that bites
The joy in every season
The will inside the might

The punctuation mark that takes the heart
And won't leave it alone
She is every poem that I have ever known

She's the newness to the beginning
The turned up edge of every grin
The sound that's in the laughter
Springs fragrance on the wind

The kindness that helps to bind us
Heart to heart and soul to soul
She is every poem that I have ever known

She's the hope that's found in happiness
The footnote at the end
The idea that can't get by on less
The ear that's here to lend

The inkling in the keeping
That drives it all back home
She is every poem that I have ever known

That swirls in my heart
From one end to the other
To back where you are

Firing off shooting stars
Inside nebula storms
From Venus to Mars
Straight out of this world

Around Saturn's rings
In case I miss anything

They met where the climate was warmer
In a time when the days held true
Where what was said was said with special meaning
When it was they met, that's when they knew

They knew they were meant for each other
For both of them that day finally came
They Wed on a mountain side in a field of flowers
Where she said yes dear, I'll take your name

It was love that held these two together
It was love that kept them so closely bound
To this moment in time they knew would last forever
Since what they were looking for they both had found

This much love they needed to share with a family
They just knew that the timing was right
A baby was born to them they named her Rebecca
A joy that filled up both of their lives

Rebecca grew into a fine stately woman
Met a man who moved her to the North
Left behind her Mother and Father
But took with her their love of course

She's adapted to her surrounds
Braving each and every winter storm
Remembering the warmth of youth that held her
In the comfort of her home

Rebecca became a purveyor of life's scenery
It's pure beauty sometimes makes Rebecca cry
As she puts it softly from her pen to paper
Because Rebecca is a poet of life
For my good friend and wonderful poet...Rebecca Askew

I met a man in a playful tune
Who had a thought I thought I knew
He said to me goo goo g'joob
Does anything sound more real to you

We were out standing in a field
With fresh strawberries dancing at our heels
In a moment a bit to surreal
Continue on Bungalow Bill

We moved past a four man line
As we slipped into dream #9
Being there for the benefit of Mr. Kite
When Lucy and her diamonds fell from the sky

A day in the life left tragically
Our mystery tour on a yellow submarine
The revolution of love has now left the building
In a puddle of memories out on the street

She held your hand to comfort you
The color of love now the color of blue
Till the bitter end you sang passion true
Goodbye to you Goo goo g'joob...

Who Put The Mouth In Charge
Mike Hauser Jul 2014
One day both the hands

Decided to make a stand

Inviting both the feet

To where they all could meet

Down in the city park

To enjoy a pleasant walk

The feet both spoke out loud

We'll have to ask the mouth

He handles all of our affairs

From travel plans, to pedicures

From East to West, North to South

Here and there and there about

Gives everything we need

Through the chatter of his teeth

The ears they heard a roaring sound

And asked the eyes to look around

Of course it was the mouth

Telling them all to settle down

Who is it that gave the mouth control

Something that we may never know

Don't ask me where or why this is so

It's just been that way since the day I was born

Somewhere back when the sour mash flowed

But we won't let it lie till we get what we're owed

Cause something ain't right and that's all I know

What we are owed comes with a poisonous bite

For those lawless law men hiding behind badges of lies

The way that they deal from the devils right side

It's tooth for a tooth with an eye for an eye

There's no other way to bring it to light

They've done nothing but wrong since they come along

With the busting of Stills in the morals they've strung

But in the Tennessee hills it's the way that we live

Where we give what they take and we take what they give

We've had more than enough of all of their...

Not sure why or when they considered it sin

What's been passed all these years down from kin to kin

They don't seem to like us and we like them even less

So I'll tell you now boys stay on your side of the fence

That's where we're at today and have been ever since

Trouble they'll get if that's what they've come looking for

We've had more than enough and won't take anymore

The one who will win has the strongest of wills

From the moment that
We both laid eyes
We forever knew
It'd be you and I
Where love's taken us
In its whirlwind
We will always land
Hand in hand

There are no words
We need to say
As they would only
Get in our way
What we both have
We fully understand
As we walk this life
Hand in hand

Where if we stumble
Or one should fall
The other is here
To hold tightly on
In the sifting through
Times grains of sand
Always me and you
Hand in hand

When the years fly by
And we're at that age
With the final chapter
On the last page
Both nodding knowingly
That we understand
Going out the way we came in

Howling Goober
Mike Hauser Nov 2014
To battle off intruders
I hired a dog named Goober
He came to me packing heat
I think it is a Luger

He's not a German Shepard
Though his collar and holster are made of leather
He graduated Obedience School
Proudly wearing his Letter Sweater

I pay him in dog biscuits
Which cuts down on doing dishes
As we toss ideas around
When problems arise Goober licks it

He came with papers so all could see
Showing he is the best of breed
Also to lay out on the floor
In case Goober feels the need

Goober has been a great asset
All the intruders around here left
In case you feel the need to ask
...Just don't ask the cat

With a draw as smooth

Lighting up the night sky

Will you do me a favor
There's a circus coming to town
Can you make sure that the way is clear
Of any minds that are sound

As they parade main street U.S.A.
They'll be passing out crazy ideas
Those they'll hand out to the adults
Cotton candy for all of the kids

There's even Democratic magicians
Who specialize in the slight of hand
You can watch but don't overly listen
To the blather mixed with demands

Doesn't much matter the party
Pretty much one and the same
Democrat or Republican
Same worn out clowns with different names

Hoping it takes at least 8 years
Before we're fed up with all of the lies
Then we'll put who they tell us back in
More of the same in a cheaper disguise

Oh, and the main attraction
Center ring of the double minded congressional clowns
Well have to add more rings to this circus
3 won't do this time around

And per our favorite Ring Master
Get ready for the greatest of shows
The best is yet or pure disaster
Only time and the Good Lord knows
Talking with some people you can feel their angst about the future of America and the world.
This country has gone through good and bad Presidents for over 200 years and has survived...
Sit back and relax....it's all in God's hands.

A Poem Written By My Cat
Mike Hauser Jun 2013
Uh...are you talking to me?
Can't you see I'm busy licking myself
I hope you're calling cause dinner is waiting
You know I can't be bothered for anything else

What's the broken glass all over the kitchen?
It was that dog of yours in the middle of night
I told you he'd be nothing but trouble
No one ever listens to me though I'm always right

Yawn...is that toy supposed to entice me?
Hey stupid your only entertaining yourself
I'm now ripping through the yellow pages
The voice you use when you talk to me, I'm concerned for your mental health

The funky smell that's coming from out of your bedroom?
That's a special surprise from me
I left under your covers while you were working
On which tonight you can warm your feet
Your probably thinking...what is it with this guy and all the animal poems!
They're the only ones who seem to understand...he says in a high squeaky voice as his cat looks on disgusted...

Every thought of mine, every subtle note
Take them down to the churning sea
Toss them far, set them free

All the fading ink, every yellowed page
My form of art that is poetry
As I stand on the beaches warming sand
I'll watch them sink or see them swim

From that moment on for them and me
At that very point we'll be set free

Never been much of an eavesdropper
Others conversations I let them slide
But the one these ladies were talking
I couldn't let pass me by

Not like they weren't loud at the table they found
Where next to me they decided to sit
They didn't look much in need of anything free
But who doesn't like to share in their wit

As they continued to talk bystanders or not
The way some women do
I leaned in their way a little closer that day
As they subliminally were throwing me clues

That's when one of the three afforded me the opportunity
In saying she used to be a 34D
Leaning back in my chair from her major death stare
As I said what are you now...a 34 knee?
This is actually a true story....
My family continually tells me I have no filter...go figure.

The Last Thirteen
Mike Hauser Jul 2013
Thirteen steps up the gallows
The first step I think of loved ones at home
All the fond memories they hold for me
As I take the second step alone

Third step I have a guard wipe
A lonely teardrop from my eye
It's not for myself I cry
But for those I leave behind

Four, five, and six I gain composer
Step number seven I lose it all
I wish I had learned from my past mistakes
How far and fast a man can fall

Step number eight is where I call out
In a barely audible voice
I hope those that are listening will listen to reason
Learn from me and don't make this choice

Steps nine and ten I break down again
As guards grab me from both sides
Helping me up step eleven
At twelve I say I'm alright

When I do step onto thirteen
I take it all in stride
Stepping up onto the platform
Leaving number thirteen behind

Now all that stands between me and my destiny
Are the thirteen knots on the hangman's noose
No need to count, I know that they're there
I only count what I'm about to lose

Would I be happy with where I'm at
If I never wrote you another poem
Satisfied with myself
If I never wrote you another poem

If another poem never comes to mind
Will I feel like I have spent my time
Wisely with this heart of mine
If I never wrote you another poem

Would a tear come to my eye
If I never wrote you a poem on love
Would I sit here and wonder why
If I never wrote you a poem on love

If I never wrote you a poem on love
Would I blame the lonely stars above
For not shining bright enough
If I never wrote you a poem on love

Could I be happy with myself
If I never shared my poems with you
Would I pass the blame to someone else
If I never shared my poems with you

If I decided to never share
Toss them to the wind without a care
Not knowing where they'd land out there
If I never shared my poems with you

I hear you laugh in different languages
Which has me guessing what that's about
From the high pitched cackling of the French
To the Italian baritone laugh out loud

Your German snickering has people wondering
What you have going on the side
And that burst of British laugh all by itself
No other country could deny

Of course there's that high pitched scream
As you guffaw in the Middle East
Where the situations not all that funny
But if you didn't laugh you'd cry to say the least

And America's snort's, teehee's, and hee-haws
Travel North, South, East, and West
There's not a time that you can't find
This country giggless

As laughter makes the dull Earth sunny
In all these different languages
From one side of the globe to another
We can see above all the rest, laughter is best

All over you fine peoples feet

It was a colorful array of symbolism
That I hurled across the room
It must have been something I'd seen or read
That made me ***** this poem out for you

To tell the truth when I look at you
Before I even know, what you've been through
One of the first things I do
...don't you know

Is to find the perfect spot
With just the righteous amount of rocks
And give it all I have got
...don't you know

Don't even think to look at me
Not a single word do I heed
No insightful instructions do I need
...when throwing stones

Far and wide justice is blind
Well to tell the truth, so am I
When my own sin I deny
...don't you know

In judgement I stand tall
Keep it simple and that's not all
In my own righteousness I applaud
...don't you know

It doesn't take a giant leap
Or intelligence all that deep
To see where the problem lies is me

I bought a packet of inspiration
From a highway roadside stand
It only held one seed but that's all I would need
Is what the old man at the stand had said

So I went home and started the garden
In the very middle of my back yard
Planted the seed one inch deep
As per instructions on the card

I religiously watered it faithfully
Each and every day of the week
When the sprout of inspiration
Shot up to the sky like a ****

It must have had a gazillion branches
That birds of different colors landed and chirped
The fruit of inspiration is delicious to taste
As I now savor every word

If I ever come upon doubt and confusion
And find going on to be hard
I step outside for inspiration
That now grows in my back yard

I lost all it was that I had
In that hateful town of Cheatin'

As I stand on the edge of the towns line
Giving it a long and hurtful gaze

When I found out where it was that you were
I had such a hard time in believing

That the very place that broke my heart
Is now where you like to spend your days

I heard tell when it was this all started
You had only gone by for a visit

After awhile though you settled in
And bought yourself a home

I guess what all it was that we had
You don't seem to even miss it

These days that's all that I think about
Since I have nothing left but time alone

I went out and bought me some gasoline
It's in the back of my old Ford truck

I swear tonight when the sky grows dim
I'm heading to Cheatin' Town

It may not be the right thing to do
But I really don't care that much

I'm going to watch that God-Awful town burn
Till it's nothing but ashes on the ground

That'll be the end of Cheatin' Town

Everything's Broken
Mike Hauser Dec 2016
We all have high hopes
As we step on the wagon
With the band playing
Grab the tail of the dragon

Not really knowing
What we are needing
Where we are going
When we are leaving

Just when we get there, hoping
Not everything's broken

Tripping the light
Of the fandango
What's the big fuss
Why can't we let go

Paying the fair
On what should be free
Instead mostly  care
You about you and me about me

This far into game I was hoping
Everything wasn't broken

Used to we'd all
Come up to the line
The same one we've learned
To step over in time

No matter which side
We all take a beating
With nowhere to hide
In our time of grieving

Either direction, coming or going
Seems these days, everything's broken

That's not too deep where as you'll over think
Or one that's too vague that will put you to sleep

A really good poem I've written this time
Knows what it is doing when it comes to the rhyme
With just enough hidden to have you wanting more
Loaded with action so you'll never be bored

This really good poem is a lot like fine dining
A seven course meal laid out in its rhyming
Holding you captive from beginning to end
Making you wonder how without it you ever could live

With this really good poem you can see I'm not lying
As you read over it once getting ready for twice
Being impressed with its rhythm and flow
This is a really good poem just so you know

this poem will be here for just a moment
soon to be dust in the wind
in the shortest of time it will eventually find
it's way to the bottom of the bin

it might bring a touch of joy or sadness
but that depends on you
and at the time you read it
the frame of mind your mood

it won't take you to the mountain top
soaring to the very heights
or take you to the depths of despair
where it keeps you up at night

it won't bring peace to all the nations
it won't have us holding hands
it won't repair any of the damage
that's been done over the course of time by man

it won't open any minds
or close doors on the best forgotten
in the least amount of time
it'll come and go from every noggin

chances are it won't be remembered
five minutes after it's gone
and without a tune to carry it
it may not even last that long

I couldn't help but think of you and me
And how we are like a movie
How we sometimes sleep through it
This romantic comedy

Maybe when it's over
We'll give each other credit
For all the things that we did right
And all the things we didn't

How we made it through to the bitter end
Of the laughter and tears that we played in

Though there's really no need to show fear
They've been living for years now among us
You'd be surprised at how very near

They're everywhere in our daily activities
In fact you wont believe what they've seen
By now they know us as well as we know ourselves
Try not to let "that" give you the creeps

I can't think of a place where their not sitting
Watching our most intimate moves
They've probably seen movements by our President
Which wouldn't make for good nightly news

They've found out they can't breath in our climate
After all these years they've left their suits on
That poses a bit of a problem
Cause that's exactly where they went wrong

It's all in the design of their equipment
On their planet they just couldn't tell
That their spacesuits look a lot like our toilets*

I fell headlong into a poem
And was immediately swept away
As words passed by on paddle boats
They pulled me in their wake

The sweet dew of sonnets glistened on the shore
Lined with allegory trees
Dripping with fruit of poetic glaze
As a rhythmic breeze rustles through the leaves

There was an ode of maidens in a field
Cultivating the finest of verses
With colors of yellows, pinks, blues, and reds
From amongst the rows of stanzas

The cool lapping of the waves
Brought the imagery to its peak
As the metaphoric stream I floated down
Opened up into a sea of dreams

I fell headlong into a poem
And was immediately swept away...

The Town Of Mightabeen
Mike Hauser Jul 2013
I live in the town of Mightabeen
If you look real hard you shoulda seen
Those that woulda coulda if they'd only tried
In the town of Mightabeen on any given night

We meet in the square every Saturday
To discuss the things that we wanna say
But what we wanna say sometimes gets in the way
So we're there till late every Saturday

Right next door is the town of Neverwill
Where they never did and haven't still
If they ever do and they do it well
They'd go back home and never tell

If you find yourself driving by
You're more than welcome to visit anytime
Hoping a good time is what you'll find
But if you don't, well...nevermind

The "H" Bomb (a close call)
Mike Hauser Mar 2013
Sitting in the basement
Two friends were fairly wasted
With an idea, both of them could taste it
So they decided they would make it

They tried to pull up the internet
With a computer not even turned on yet
So they smoked another doobie and
Came up with a master plan

When the internet finally did come on
They Googled how to make an "H" bomb
They giggled like silly teenage girls
Cause the knew they'd be rulers of their world

They wish they'd studied more in school
This "H" bomb language wasn't written for simple fools
So they called up someone smart they knew
They called Bob

Well Bob was just right down the street
Always there to help a friend in need
Even came with his own bag of ****
Bob is a good friend indeed

After an hour or so they tried to explain
What they needed from good ole what's his name
But couldn't remember why it was he even came
I guess **** just made the world a safer place

the loneliest boy
Mike Hauser Mar 2016
he's the loneliest boy
you have ever known
with no one dear
to call his own
those close to him
do no more than leave
the loneliest boy
you have ever seen

he's the loneliest boy
you could ever find
though with being lonely
there's no need to hide
with none of this
being of his will
he's the loneliest boy
still...

he plays the part
of lonely well
the loneliest boy
it's not hard to tell
out and about
yet still alone
the loneliest boy
you have ever known

the loss of a child
Mike Hauser Jul 2016
the hardest thing in this life

has to be the loss of a child

there is no way to explain

the pain the loss hands out

the void it leaves behind

where the heart did once reside

even the thought is heartbreakingly cruel

in what the loss to a soul can do

the darkness that greets each new day

the sadness you continually have to brave

the hardest part of losing a child you've raised

is the emptiness that never goes away
I have several friends that are going through this tragedy  (it really never ends does it)  my prayers are with you all.

No Elephants Allowed
Mike Hauser Oct 2014
Pardon me sir,
But you'll have to check your Elephant at the door

Why I've never been so insulted in my life!
This Elephant my friend is a very good friend of mine

I realize that sir,
But we have strict policies at this bar

What kind of establishment are you running here
When two friends can't sit and enjoy themselves a beer

Pardon me sir,
But the last time something like this ensued

We called up the law they called up the zoo
Seems there was nothing that we could do

It was madness and mayhem all over the place
You wouldn't believe the mess those animals made

There were Goats in the kitchen, Monkeys tending the bar
Giving free drinks and free food to the girls

And those **** Giraffes took all the ceiling fans out
Not to mention the mess that was scattered about

With the Hippos and Hyenas laughing it up
It took us forever to get the place scrubbed

So I must insist sir like I said before,
Would you kindly leave your Elephant checked at the door

~Morning Praise~
Mike Hauser Oct 2014
If ever there was a moment I was silent
The rocks and the trees they would cry out
Let your love reign down
Let your love reign down

With every single heart beat
The very breath that I breath
Let your love reign down
Let your love reign down

Lord, let my hiding place
Be in the promises you've made
Let your love reign down
Let your love reign down

With all the hope I hold to
Let all my hope be in you
Let your love reign down
Let your love reign down

Let everything that I do
Be ever pleasing to you
Let your love reign down
Let your love reign down

That I may lift you up...

Innocence
Mike Hauser Jul 2013
Little boys and little girls*
Playing in the sand
Taking life for all its worth
Without a care in hand
Enjoy it all little ones
While it is you can
Before this life grabs hold of you
And you begin to understand

Time you spend with mommy
Daily in the park
Good times for you to have
Till daylight kisses dark
If you're  within the sound of my voice
Take a moment where you are
Hug them tight your inner child
For all that they are worth

Childlike innocence always is
The first thing that we lose
Trying to get it back seems to be
The last thing that we choose
I'm sure we would try harder
If it is we only knew
How much losing it would change
Our very point of view

When we stop to view it all
Through wide open eyes
Hits us all so very hard
Should we be surprised
Happens to the best of us
And so goes our lives
I dream of the forgotten days

Happy 4th Of July!
Mike Hauser Jul 2016
In order to save some money
Which in hindsight wasn't smart
Me and my buddies got together
To make our own fireworks

And as luck would have it
We found all we need under the kitchen sink
The whole time looking to do this cheap
Instead we came out free

Knowing this day would draw a crowd
As soon as the rumor mill filled up
So in our vast wisdom with a few cells missing
We mixed the batch up in Jimmy's tub

Not being exact on science
As illustrated in that magazine
We felt no need to measure
And might have gone a bit extreme

As soon as the stuff started bubbling up
That thought did cross our minds
Remember at the start, saying it wasn't smart
And that little mention of hindsight

With the size of the flash, little wonder we're not ash
And still have all our fingers and our toes
It's hard to explain the size of the bang
And why now Jimmy's house is one big hole

But we did put on a show not soon forgotten
That could be seen from outer space
And where Jimmy's house used to be
There's now a community pool in it's place

So come and join us on this holiday
Burgers, beer, and of course fireworks
In fact we're heading to Davy's house now
To mix a few things up...

~Plato~
Mike Hauser Mar 2017
I picked Plato up
Off the side of the road
Had his thumb out
For Lord only knows

I questioned of him
Where he was going
He said with this mind
There's no way of knowing

Plato sat in the front
With the radio dial
Twisting the tunes
Mile after mile

Top 40 Pop
Is what he settled with
Like it or not
That's the mood he was in

With the windows down
His philosophy
Caught on the wind
Blew in the breeze

The day I picked Plato up
Off the side of the road
With his thumb out
For Lord only knows

Dietary Blues
Mike Hauser Apr 2015
My body is way beyond bent out of shape
After years and years of abuse
That I might just have time to make my own wake
If I don't soon enough figure out what to do

I've tried this and that, all the fads to be had
The hidden secrets to the fat burn
I've climbed mountain sides, talked with gurus passing by
And still I've yet to learn

I'm setting all the wrong free as skinny keeps eluding me
It's a master on the fly
If only one time it would just find to light
Right around my inner thighs

I'm now thinking my fate is more Shake 'n Bake
Than that of long and lean
Any ideas please feel free to call me
On my direct line down at Krispy Kreme

Missing You
Mike Hauser Oct 2013
This is me

This is me missing you

It is the one reflection

Of what it is that I once knew

Pull ever so tightly on the strings

Of this heart that still holds true

To the one reflection

Of me missing you

The Courier
Mike Hauser Mar 2013
I am no more than an Courier
A wanderer through life
Words are what I choose to cling to
Purveyor of the times

Spending forbidding moments in the desert
Just to watch it bloom at night
The chilling winds that blow the stinging sands
Help create that which I write

I look for answers in the greyest of skies
Where there's no limit to the powers that be
The howling wind changes the shape I'm in
That only the darkness it can see

The river that flows freely from my soul
Starts out where this life fails to end
And when it reaches its destination
The tide will rise again...
