Take it easy
Take it slow
Life for us is much too fast
In case this you didn't already know

Take time out for a breath
Every now and then
Life is right for sound advice
With a grain of salt, learn how to live

Take it easy
Nice and slow
Find yourself a front porch swing
Like the wise folk down in Tupelo

Take time to watch it pass by
And you, with nowhere to go
In-between yawns you're sure to find
What you should already know

Take it easy
Take it slow
If you're not careful, soon enough you will find
The speed of life has hidden tolls

If you're waiting for blessings to fall in your lap
Like a napkin you expertly fold
How many times have you heard it said
Take it easy, take it slow

i find it a sickness
as well as a curse
this ranting in rhyme
complaining in verse
that spills from my mind
for better or worse
takes up my time
will i ever learn
how to shut it off
this beating on brain
stuck on repeat
lost in the refrain
never that deep
still questions remain
hey, don't look at me
the world is to blame

Can you tell me what the difference is
Between the right and the left
Which one is numb to what's going on
Which one nods and shakes their head

Who has the best fountain of ideas
Solid to the core
Who if they left, would be missed
Who would you prefer to show to the door

What have they done in accomplishments
What medals hang on their chest
What battles rage on, more importantly won
What will be said when there's nothing left

Who of the few stands for justice
When clearly injustice is served
Who do you know between them both
That can be trusted when keeping their word

From what I see on both sides of the creek
There's quite a bit that can be said
From all I've gleaned if you ask me
There's not a whole lot of difference,
between the right and the left

There's a moral bankruptcy
That's plaguing this great land
If you don't see life through the eyes of Christ
There's not a chance you'll understand

If you rely on wisdom
Siphoned through the corruption of man
Then you'll be blind in both heart and mind
And when it falls you won't stand a chance

If the feeling you get is this all makes sense
In these topsy-turvy times
Then the morals you hold are out of control
Which needs a dose of Godly light

Left to your own devices
You'll end up riding shotgun with the devil
Void of the facts with little time left
To turn it around if you're even able

Like I said at the top being morally bankrupt
You really don't stand a chance
If you fail to see life through the eyes of Christ
Try hard as you might, you'll never understand

Woke up…
Blood on my shirt
Glass in my hair
Face down in the dirt

Wondering at…
What this is about
Drink in my hand
At the last count

Did I…
Have friends with me
Who did their best to beg
For my car keys

Would a do over
Be too much to ask
And if I did
Would it lessen this mess

Did I…
Hear someone scream
Or heaven forbid
Is it coming from me

Wondering at…
Why the pain went away
All of the sudden
Nothing’s the same

Woke up…
In the cleanest of shirts
No glass anywhere
Coffin covered in dirt

Where went the days
We had things to say
While others sat back and listened

May not have agreed
But still felt the need
That time should be equally given

Unto both sides
Whether they're wrong or right
We should all be afforded our opinion

Without one another
Screaming at each other
One thing we seem to be missing

Make it make sense
Shouldn't we live and let live
No matter the side you are on

We should after all
Adhere to the goal
Of trying to all get along

Look closely and see
We basically have the same needs
Where we all just want to be loved

Which brings on the point
In our needs and our wants
Shouldn't love after all be enough

To bring us together
In hard times or pleasure
It really shouldn't be that tough

To turn things around
No matter how far down we've allowed
I'll say it again; it's got to be love

i remember snippets
as if they were yesterday
held tight in my grip and
wouldn't let those snippets slip away

shoved them deep in the pockets of my denim jeans
faded from years of wear and tear
the ones with holes in both memories and knees
snippets from passing years
