We’re fighting for and against
As of late, that’s how it is
Every day a hit or miss
Past, Present, Future tense

You might decide to call this life
I beg to differ, no reason why
Can we not read a simple sign
And simply stop, at the line

No one will reap from this instinct
Churning underneath but not that deep
You for you and me for me
It’s been that way through history

Selfishness rings of selfish times
Which calls collect to save the dime
Feel we’re owed most of the time
Until you get yours and I get mine

As we fight for and against
Everything we wish we had
That’s jotted down on our long list
Past, Present, Future tense

How tight is the grip that we have
On this so-called life
And if it all, one day went bad
Would we still be satisfied

Do we find our worth here on earth
Where moths and rust destroy
Or do we look towards Heaven
To bring about real bouts of joy

Do we not realize that this life
Is here and gone in the blink of an eye
That it doesn't end on this side
With our last breath the day we die

If you have a grip, try and lose it
Cause what you have will never last
And turn your eyes towards Heaven
Where all our needs are met

Once we lose our worldly grip...

There's a thin line in-between
The walking dead and living
Spending time here on earth
Living life for all it's worth

This daily trip of hit or miss
In certainty get on with it
How many miss out on the time
Letting this life pass them by

There's a thin line in-between
How we act and tend to lean
How much of ourselves we give away
In the packaging of love and hate

Pointing fingers righteously
Just don't point them back at me
Pretending somehow that we care
As quotation marks hang in the air

There's a thin line in-between
The solid truth and pretending
That everything will be okay
If we try our hand at love and hate

Loving those that love you back
Where's the sacrifice in that
The struggle to try and get along
That's the true test of hate and love

I'm waving the flag
A bitter off white
The color you choose
When you give up the fight
Throw in the towel
Calling it quits
I've had enough
Of the meaningless
Calling a truce
Ready to yield
Raising both hands
Out in left field
Not mock surrender
But the real thing
Along with the fat lady
I'm ready to sing
From here ever after
My tongue's gonna stop
Box up the chatter
Sweep up spilled guts
I'll nod along
As I'm read my writes
I'm now more than ready
To give up the fight

This world's full of Bullies
All in on the take
Giving them power
A mistake we all made
Now rule over us
In power and pride
This world full of Bullies
Hard pressed to deny

Every sandbox, a Bully
The world, their playground
Don't dare get unruly
They'll take you down
Into the pit
Where they themselves belong
This world full of Bullies
Tell me I'm wrong

This world full of Bullies
Would have us believe
They hold the power
We hold the need
To rule over us
Kick sand in our face
With so many Bullies
Being today's commonplace

Makes one tend to wonder
If we all stood our ground
Would there no longer
Be Bullies around

I hear people talking which sounds more like squawking
We need to move past the past
There's nothing new, I'd care to cling to
I know today's youth would beg to differ with that

We once were emersed in, the art of conversing
Instead of our nose on the grindstone of the phone
Given the chance to go out and be kids
Not sitting at home texting alone

We'd be out at night chasing fireflies
Collecting their light in a tight Mason jar
Using our find as a night light
Dreaming of them as shooting stars

Or splashing through creeks up to our knees
Not a worry was had on what lay ahead
Not tethered to beeps, free to be free
Not a single device glued to our hands

I see what they've done to us, these modern conveniences
And how they have taken over our time
Seems the promises said were never met
And they still want to add more to the pile

I have to ask, what's wrong with the past
To me they were simpler times
That were happily spent with family and friends
Before we were trapped by the device

If I'm to be honest
Perfectly honest
I'll tell you I've got this
When I really don't

Not sure if you know this
Or happen to notice
I'm a bit out of focus
When it comes to the point

One way or another
I tend to blame others
If I had my druthers
That would be my choice

Call it a defect
Or better yet, train wreck
This, my man-made mess
After all I have goals

In time you'll find
The bars not set too high
On this, my slow ride
Lord only knows

If I'm to be honest
Totally honest
There's not many among us
That know what's going on
