Let me just throw this out your way
If we met today, this late in the game
Would you still fall for me, the man I now am
With the ways that I have changed

Not just the thinning of the hair
Or the more attitude of really don't care
Where the older I get the less savoir faire
With much less finesse and no visible flair

Or the conversations that tend to run dry
As I nod along with that glaze in my eyes
I know that you love me cause I see the signs
But if we met today would you give me a try

The way I ask where the hidden things are
From where’s this in the fridge
to the keys of my car
And my never ending list of Honey do’s
That's fairly unused with more don’ts than do’s

Over the years I've grown on you gradually
So I know in the distance that bell still rings
But if we met today, this late in the game
I wonder, would you still fall for me

We live in a world of color
Where people only see black and white
When it comes to the human condition
And in the judging of others lives

We think you should be just like me
But never venture into why
Others do things so differently
When they can't possibly be right

It's hard to see all the colors
That go against our beliefs
Set in stone the same dull tones
That keep from setting us free

We stay in the lines of black and white
As color swirls outside the box
Living our lives never questioning why
Stuck behind time, because

We live in a world of color
Where people only see black and white
Making it our mission
In the judging of others lives

Please allow me to explain
Exactly what I'm saying
There's a drain on my brain
That loves misbehaving

When my memory
Escapes the best of me
Up and runs away
Ain't that a pity, ain’t that a shame

The older it is that I get
The more it seems to skip
Right in mid-sentence
Jumps off this ever-sinking ship

Takes a giant leap
Into the not so deep
Without a thing to say
Ain't that a pity, ain’t that a shame

Most every day these days
Decides to show up late
Without the proper utensils
Which should be a piece of cake

With no way to spread the icing
My thoughts are less than enticing
I'm afraid I'm beyond baked
Ain't that a pity, ain’t that a shame

they try and change opinions
as they try to change your mind
they try their best to lure you in
then try and have you question why

they try to remove all of the guilt
they try to justify
try as they might they never will
when all they do is try and lie

they try to win the argument
they try to brush aside
they try to explain what they meant
they try but it's all hype

they try out of desperation
cause these are desperate times
try and explain away these darkened days
as they try and hide the signs

they try to pass it off as love
try and relate but it's just hate
they try but it is never enough
they continue to try but it's too late

we're tired, we're worn, feeling forlorn
the moment we're awakened
we dream the need for loads of sleep
a massive undertaking

this world of spin we're drying in
could use a softener sheet
to fluff us up mainly because
we've hardened beyond belief

we make our way through piles of hate
like laundry on the floor
as everyday leaves more of a stain
than the day before

this cycle of sin we're all tossed in
leaves us bleached out, tattered, torn
then back again, where we began
tired, worn, and forlorn

None in their right mind knew what she looked like
Without all the paint on her face
From morning to noon till late in the night
Applied her makeup like decorating a cake

Then there's the wigs in which her head lived
From yellow to pink to chartreuse
If you saw the real her, you'd have to accrue
Who stood before you, you hadn't a clue

There wasn't a thing that she was hiding
Just couldn't get enough of playing dress up
She wasn't lying or even denying
To her true beauty was just adding more looks

And the dresses she adorned was like a night at the prom
Had her dancing to life by ballroom
Yet never lucky enough to fall in love
Left way too fast, gone way too soon

Buried without much of a fanfare
Although she had done quite a run
It's not that people there didn't care
They just had no idea who she really was

have we got this wrong
have we lost it all
by way of innocence
knee deep in circumstance

when did we lose sight
of all that's good and right
this side of heaven
...using love as a weapon

grip hard the handle tight
in this losing fight
is it that we don't see
our ever so blinding need

tears wet this battlefield
yet not a one will yield
this side of heaven
...using love as a weapon

both sides fight for rights
in this daily do or die
where went the sympathy
for one another's needs

selfishness plays a roll
in this loss of control
this side of heaven
...using love as a weapon
