Self-Harmony
Michael Marchese May 2023
My soul is now shaded
More aquamarine
To have lived by the sea
Caught adrift in a dream
But I merely mean
Too good
For truth to compare
To be barely
Still clinging to life
But aware
There is no sweet release,
Sugar-coated deceased
That prepares us for
Gone
Is just resting in peace
That allays
Waking days
Of its cognizance craze
Liberates us,
Or saves us,
Or aids our escape
Better than
The departure
Revolves around me
To the part where
I’m suffering
Simply to be

Oasis destinations
These mirages passing through
Like the kings of old who drew
Their course from constellations

Drifting through the wanderdust

In a sea of could be
Of serenity
But deep beneath it is me
Still submerging myself
Where the light doesn't reach
Instead of sun-bathing
My shell on the beach
Where at least I would only
Imagine
The fathoms
Below me, the undertow
Dragging me slowly
Away from the shoreline security
Lonely

Or found insuperable

Discovering,
Uncovering
The surface layers
Smothering
The truth beneath
The buried past
The everlasting

On sanctity's

The score is settled
In the blast

And so I ask
Again
Have you
Completed what
You set to task
Or just discovered
Some uncovered
Remnants of
The ancient past
Forgotten
Lying eons
Rotten
Not in some
Sumptuous tomb
Of regnant opulence
Exhumed
But in the gloom
Of fell
And fallen
Kingdoms
Mortals
Bow in awe in

So I ask again
Have you
Found any a retelling true
Or just library books

There once was a world
So green and blue
With skies of clarity
Beneath them which
All breath of life
Was shared in harmony

Each blade of grass
Fought not for land
To own as property
Each creature knew
Not of to want,
To take, or gluttony

Without language,
Paper, or pen
They signed the peace treaty
Without a war drum's
Orchestra
It still composed its symphony

No anthems, flags
Or border walls
Need signify such unity
No laws, or kings
Or governments
Controlled Nature's democracy

Until the day
These mortal hands
Picked fruits of its divinity
And biting down
They tasted only
Serpentine theology

The warden to freedom
She puts the guard
In my garden of eden

My judge and my jury
My guilty confines
Executioner of
My most passionate rhymes

An intimate inmate
She dwells in my cells
She writes on my walls
But she quells my rebels

By dispelling the words
That are sentenced to life
When her death row despair
Is a straight-jacket's knife

She's the shank to the veins
Of my drug misdemeanor
When barred are the windows
Through which I have seen her

Non-violent offenses
Like needles of sadness
Lock my convictions
In solitaire madness

No conjugal visits
No messages sent
Cemented in empty
Demented lament

It never rains in Georgia
Though my cloudy head is gray
And even in November suns
It thunders in the fray
Of my peachy state of mind
And the beaches I convey
Behind hurricane frustrations
As my calm trees start to sway

In the coastal winds of longing
For my tempests kept at bay
Such deluges would be cleansing
A most vehement display
Of my angriest storm surges
That could blow this world away
But it never rains in Georgia
And I'm keeping it that way
The thin line between indignation and sorrow

Could soon be made free
Of your inhibition

But your indecision
Refuses volition
To enter the void and let go of suspicion
The light at the end is your human condition
We aimlessly wander this road to perdition
In search of the signs, to exit these minds

They flicker in red
As the devil lies sleeping
In bed with our head
And the truths we are seeking

Floorboards are creaking
The faucet is leaking
The bumps in the night oh so restlessly creeping
In attics and cellars, in tongues they are speaking
The spiders and bats war with serpents and rats

Yet we still find no peace
Behind doors we then close
To the world we decease
Our open windows

Refracting these woes
On the withering rose
In the darkest of corners of no one else knows
Of the troubles I've seen where no sign of life grows
Counting crows as it dies in a room locked inside

It all seems so good
It all feels so great
As I enter the mood
Of this trippy mind state

I am all, I am one
Sitting here on this earth
Reconceived by the sun
Her light, my rebirth

A brand new inception
My old skin is shed
An altered perception
The old me is dead

Normality drifts
From reality lands
As mentality sifts
Through mortality sands

Letting go of my fears
Letting go of my pain
Fog of mind disappears
From my ego-less brain

Detached from desire
Each earthly possession
No more than a liar
My truth is expression

Unbridled elation
Ineffable glad
Heightened sensation
Vanishing sad

A soaring ascension
Kaleidoscope skies
A swirling dimension
Where lows become highs

I’m flowing through dreams
Thought rivers euphoric
My consciousness streams
Wash out the dysphoric

I’m light as a feather
I'm cold but I'm warm
How 'bout this weather?
A gentle brain storm

To exist is my mission
To be is my goal
And all of cognition
Is part of the whole

I see every feature
Each different face
But only one creature
Runs my human race

Universes therein
Worlds coming together
Time and space warped
By the bounds of forever

My spirit uplifted
By but a mere breeze
My paradigm shifted
By voices of trees

Eccentric boy wonder
Bizarre child awe
Wacky word blunder
Silly speech flaw

I want you to share
In this limitless peace
But you have to prepare
To embrace this release

I can help you be free
To see what I mean
But you’ll never be me
You can’t see what I’ve seen

Am I losing my mind?
Take a sec to reflect
Does this seem like the kind
Of trip you’d reject?

Making maps of childhood
Exploring great unknowns
Escaping to uncharted woods
To fix my broken homes
From the sharpened sticks and stone
And the daggers often thrown
Though blunt and made of silverware
They cut through bone and love we shared
So always I alone

Was left to save the fantasies
In words I wrote and read
And picture perfect families
Envisioned in my head
For the dreams that made my bed
Free from monsters that I fled
By casting fears like spells abound
When under covers I then found
My nightmare light to shed

On each house-divided page
And unhappy never endings
In this tale of coming rage
Torn out from my notebook rendings
To a tune of doom impendings
As the heroes of my youth defendings
Vanquished all my villains slain
With a sword of growing pain
Pulled out from my play-pretendings

*Ever I, the dragon's bane

Like castles made of forlorn sands

No more to help these people rise
And share my ego's selfless prize
Only to sink in greedy tides
And choke to death on poisoned skies

No more to fight for each ideal
With cutlass made of stainless steel
Only to rust in salted wounds
From oceanic depths we feel

No more to lie awake at night
Higher than a boundless kite
Only to ponder what is life
But constant setting of sun light

No more to swim above depressed
Treading along with all the rest
Only to crash in waves that drown

As high as the sky
Were where I once nested
Beyond them I'd fly

And I'd shadow the valleys
And jungle and stream
In a kingdom of clouds
On an Inka sun beam

Atahualpa they called me
My people below
As I raised them above
All the seeds that they sow

For my beak could speak volumes
My talons could write
And my wings were a symbol
Of freedom in flight

Yet to see from my heights
And be one with the winds
Was to sacrifice all
Of their dollars and sins

Which beckoned much sweeter
Then carrion choirs
And tasted delicious
To carnal desires

A belly of maggots
Then filled me with darkness
To scavenge a life
On an emptiness carcass

The once bird of prey
Who so countered these cultures
Was brought to their level
To feast with the vultures

Whose Gods ***** and ravaged
The lessons I taught
Then they slaughtered my kind
In the wars that they fought

Still some look to my peaks
In the stormiest weather
But all that remains

The Fortress of Solitude
Michael Marchese Jun 2017
A crown of over-confidence
So glistens like the sun bejeweled
In dragon scales and treasure hordes
My mane of roaring lion reigns
Renouncing claims to kingdoms ruled

A shield of perfect hubris
So adorns me in an armored pride
My sword was forged in misery
And sharpened on the jagged ledge
Of selfless ego suicide

A castle of my stoic walls
So rises to repel the siege
In here I will outlast them all
This stone cold keep is now my home
These dungeons I now call my liege

Freeze Frame
Michael Marchese Mar 2021
Talk about what?
At the end of such times
Like the world’s almost over
Awaiting to die
Always me
What I say
To the other’s dismay
Then alone, contemplate
What was left to convey
Put it all on the table
Unstable
And shaking
So scared I would hurt you
And lust in the taking
Of hearts again
Never mend
Once in the breaking
Of winters,
And razors,
To roses in bloom
Spilling deep in its dissonance
Lighten the mood
Wanted to
Be renewing you
There when you fell
When you laughed,
When you cried,
When you reveled in hell
I would dwell in your spelling
And check every line
For a rhyme out of place
In your orderly mind
With its elegant, urbane,
Eclectic design
Like an image instilled
In a frozen tomorrow,
A bundle of sticks
And elixirs of sorrow
A twist in the system,
A matrix glitch dude
And you knew that I was
Always in such a mood

I am dismay, despair and dread
I am the Nothing in your head
The herald of the grayest skies
The harbinger of your demise
A lurking shadow of a doubt
In thoughts you can't help think about
Conceived in death of all things good
To prey upon your childhood
And feast on unfulfilling dreams
Whilst hopelessness inside you teems
Granting me control of you
With powers that you never knew
Existed in all of creation
Not just your imagination
Withering away in time
Succumbing to your aging mind's
Loss for words of fantasy
Which never ends in my story
So who would dare so much as care
To turn the page and face me there

We've let fear become the novacaine
Like whiskey for the wounds
Swallowing denial pills
For truths that lie ahead
Injecting hopelessness
With needles of realities too real
For optimism's foreign policy
Behind our walls
We alienate the cure
To division's disease

A contagion known by many names
Ignorance is uttered most
A sickness in the veins
Of cancerous medical costs
A pestilence set upon
The amber fields of grain
A plague quarantining classes
In prison-bars and penthouses
A famine on the families
In this minimum cage

Where once we flew with eagles
Now we wallow in the dirt
Born into a dying world
Grown from selfish roots
Watered on pessimism
Bending to the will of hate's
Axe of opportunity
Cutting down the other trees
That dared to share the light of our
American dreams

Divine Artifices
Michael Marchese May 2019
In fantasy fallacies
Covetous malice is
Greediest deities'
Vanity palaces
Callous regarding
The weary and meek
The ostensible shepherds
Just wolves among sheep
Counting each of their
Unanswered prayers
Before sleep
Yet despair doesn't seem
To preclude
Pleasant dreams
Nor to render naivity scenes
To demean
What of logic and reason
Should clearly evince
They abandoned us long ago,
Haven't cared since
And their whereabouts
Unbeknownst
Mystery ways
Inexplicable how
They free will us
As slaves
The obsequious miscreant
False prophet faith
Inculcated in cults
Of a non-personality
Spreading its virulent
Indigent malady
Bow and prostrate yourselves
On your knees
Cowardly
Why fear what hasn't appeared
In the flesh
To be real
Why exalt higher powers
Except how you feel
Leaves me reeling,
Unraveling
Traveling
Gone again
Out to let go
And expose
Gods
As frauds of men

Broken Glass Romance
Michael Marchese Sep 2016
If reflections of our faces
Mirrored uglinesses of our souls
Vanities of our embraces
Shimmering, ornate egos
Would reveal our grim disgraces
Fractured by this second glance
Shards that mark our darkest places
Cut us from this lecher’s trance
In crashing clangs
This loveless dance
Would end at last
For splitting pangs
Of true romance
Will shatter us like broken glass

The Leader
Michael Marchese Feb 2017
The leader will stand
For all into one
The sum of his fears
Is a product of none

He has learned to fight fair
On this life battlefield
With a sword of ideals
And a virtuous shield

He will rise over mountains
Cross river and stream
As he carries the world
While upholding his team

He will sink to the depths
Of the loneliest ocean
A man-of-war captain
On seas of emotion

Beating back pain
Like a ram against waves
His sails painted black
By his treasure horde caves

Where desire was buried
And locked in a chest
When at the world's end
A most selfless behest

Then summoned him from
A Laurentian abyss
Reborn as a dreadnought
Of true nothingness

Imbued with the force
Of a righteous typhoon
Commanding the tide
With his purpose-full moon

To glow as a beacon
A lighthouse of hope
For the stars yet to see
Through his telescope

Beyond space and time
Past nuclear fusions
Celestial beings
And cosmic illusions

To find that within
Is the energy source
To channel this power
And rewrite its course

For the leader has done this
He's doing it now
Tasked with the honor
Of showing them how

What a Time to be Alive
Michael Marchese Jul 2017
Test my patience
Is a virtue
If you think
These words can't hurt you
Or subvert your bricks and thrones
To shallow caves of sticks and stones
And early graves of mogul masses
Unenlightened social classes
Cashing in the broadcaste system
Fearful fascist feudalism
Cataclysm communist
Red dead to rites of populist
We can't resist the terrorize
In refugees we demonize
So televise the violent crimes
And lionize the Frankensteins
Cuz' we all scream for Isis stream
To guillotine the fields of green
The Vaccines are the influenza
FDA is salmonella
Poisoning the stomach bile
In the processed garbage aisle
As the vile needle kills
The blood which pours as rivers spills
Polluted by the politics
The very air we breathe is sick
Like respirating pits of tar
A pack of Marbs is all we are
On par with country clubs of pigs
Who sell us lies and oil rigs
And stuff the stockings up with coal
And change the climate of my soul
To winter's blight of coldest steel
Still rusting in this rage I feel
Then melting in the wildfire
Of the funeral empire
Rolling thunder power dice
Of life and gambling on its price
As they repeal and then erase
All knowledge of this human race

A Black Sheep's Perspective
Michael Marchese May 2019
This love/hate relationship
With
Human races is
Making me crazier
Than the creationist
Over and over
Repeating the verses
Conversing with ghosts
Who immerse them
In worthlessness
When in response
Only silence reverberates
And the faint something
Of nothing is heard
By the good word
Prevarication
Reassured
By the spirited leaders
Atop bottom-feeders
Still feeding their people
The crumbs of deceivers
Though stale it prevails
To curtail what the famished
In their desperation
Need filling
When vanished
Their saviors abandoned their
Faith itself banished
To turn to
And yearn through
The darkest night dim
Light's delusional hope
They'll be welcomed back in
A kingdom
Of the Perfect One's
Glory,
Behold!
Lording over their souls
Like a dragon does gold
