~My father ~

The saguaro an altar
A tree stump a pew
He knelt in the garden
His church all that grew.

Cactus and succulent
Tenderly grown
Were all in his choir
For his ears alone.

From aisles of stone walkways
Stained glass in bright clouds
The sun was his mantle
The stars are his shroud

The lakes holy water
As a child he'd haunt
Skipping stones 'cross a pond
Like a Baptismal Font

Sat he 'neath the willows
To hear their prayer's sigh
The saguaro an altar

His Cathedral the sky.

Yesterday evening at approximately 9PM  my father passed away. He was closest to God being out in, and working with, nature. He was a Master Gardener. A member of the Cactus & Succulent Society.  I will write more about dad later on... Right now it's 5am and I've had no sleep. I'm going to try to rest. I'm handling the grief by writing... Remembering him fondly with words. Isn't that just like a poet...?

Blessing, I can say
I still have my share
Simultaneously
Curses upon curses
Slowly strip me bare

Beautiful dreams
Mixed in nightmarish themes
We've all met the dark
With the voiceless scream
No one immune
To this dysfunctional maze
No one gets out alive
Of this breath taking play

Oh but from the heart of a child
It was every bit worthwhile!

Let me take the pieces of you
and put them into one place
for you to ponder.
I cannot put them together for you.
As you know,
only you can do that.
But I can show you
that you haven’t lost as much love
as you perhaps believe,
and that the pieces
I would give to you,
if you would have them,
would eclipse
the dark moons of the past
and reveal to you
the bright suns
of a future.
Wrote most of it yesterday, finished today.

If only I could
Explain
This strangeness
I've never known
A plague upon
My worn out heart
Tread marks
Upon my soul

Twisted emotions
Warped by time
My weary muse
Walks the line
It's more than some
Mere travesties
Something is damaged
In my inter being

Perhaps a bit to long in Hell
Forced to survive
The prison cells
The scourge that came
In the afterbirth
Societies label
Of my true worth

All these things
Forevermore
Below the surface
I lost this war
...

I built you a home
on an island in the sun
Life goes on all around
Dark skies and stormy seas
But can't quite reach your
Island in the sun
Here hope is lush
Just like the trees and green
I see a glimmer
devoid of all things bitter
Here is where
we'll choose to linger
My sister isn't doing well....but I am still praying strong.....choosing to stay positive and linger in the hope
