there is a reason for pretending
behind a fake name
a fake smile
It's all the same

Because pretending
you're not the same
as the life you lead
or the blood you bleed
even the truths you freed

Because all others see

is what you don't want them to

what they don't know about you

what they envision in their own mind

as you hide behind

The Mask

crafted by a scarred hand
hiding wrinkles on a face
that laughed a lot
less frowns that were attributed
to those happy lines
There was a time
one time
that the mask slipped
and colours dipped
and slowed
Life ebbed and flowed
and each i was dotted
and each t was crossed
and we connected
like cursive script
but we forget
That the mask kept everything
disconnected

I took off the mask

*and wrecked it

1.   Stop looking for constellations in people who don’t even have a star in them
2. Just because your veins
Just because your head
Just because your lungs
Feel like they’re about to explode
They aren’t
3. Loneliness is normal so if it at anytime it pierces your skin
Buy an earing
4. Your sanity is not determined by all the times
You screamed in your mind and no one listened
5. Putting your heart in the hands of people
Who only crush it isn’t brave
It’s foolish
6. Stop acting like a spoiled brat
Clean up the mess you made
and apologize
no matter what its always your fault
7. He isn’t an ocean
You can’t drown
But neither can you swim
Stay away from him
8. Sunsets and rainbows
Weren’t created so you
Could enjoy them
But look at them
Like they were
9. The walls you built
Around your kingdom
Will one day be knocked down
Sometimes it’s okay to surrender
10. Even though
Most people don’t have the answer
It’s okay to keep questioning
11. Your insecurities will eat you from
the inside out
be sure to order fries with that
12. No one is better or worse than you
We are all skin
And bone
And flesh
One day all of us
Will have to give back
The stardust we took
Don’t forget everything will end
So will you

Silent Siren

I heard her sing a silent song.
By the time I'd learned the words,
she was already gone.

She wasn't here for very long,
but I am still haunted by her verse.
I heard her sing a silent song.

It resonated in my bones.
I vibrated with yearning.
She was already gone.

A mute melody to quell the dawn,
and keep the world from turning.
I heard her sing a silent song.

Like a whisper from the moon to hold back the sun,
I close my eyes and I’m no longer sure
if she's really gone.

Imprinted in the earth after the eclipse was done;
her lyrics washed up on the shore.
I heard her sing that silent song,
but she was already gone.
My first villanelle. Written for class. (It's still stuck in my head.)

I pledge allegiance
To the flag
Of the United Socialists States of America
And to the ******
For which it stands
One nation
Under surveillance
Separated
With slavery and injustice for all
A slight alteration to the pledge of allegiance that everybody knows. Figured it was more fitting to the way the USA actually is

I am cut by the shards
of my shattered dreams
My hard heart broken by
the fist of my own ambition
Spilt milk and empty cups
All karma now has gone
For the Lord now slips away
As his every favour, now has gone
Alone now I stand in the shadows
of my shattered dreams

Lured I was by the mermaid's smile
My dreams smash on the rocks of time
Broken am I
By the crashing waves of change
All parts scattered and spread
I find myself adrift
On the ocean of Oneness

The wolves of destruction
devour all hopes and dreams
And goddess Kali drinks the blood
from my decapitated head
I feel the force of my father's fury
I stand in a field of rubble
Where a castle of faith once stood

My tears of ambition now fall
emptying the seas of conquest
That enslaved my marooned self
on the island of desire
Eyes freed from desire
see the Love in Kali's eyes
And thank the wolves
for slaying my hopes and dreams
for freedom comes to open
A door to the deeper self
Written while feeling into some of my disappointments

A Distraction

My mind is occupied by you --
you're always there, awaiting the dark nighttime to stir.
Flashes of your smile appear behind my eyes when they close.
Visions of your eyes haunt my thoughts.
Memories of your voice, reading your poems aloud...

I can't seem to focus anymore.
All I can ever think about is you.

    You've become quite the distraction.

But hey, who's complaining?

these two hands, small, stubby,
nonetheless,
invite you to come aboard,
all, the unselected
all, the unprotected

the pretenders, outsiders,
hallway cool, self-collected,
girls who wear dresses,
boys who write in diaries,
Camus, Sartre hangers-on,
never-removed sunglasses wearers,
24/7

trip time,
comb your eyes,
system cleansing,
you, self-affected,
you, self-selected
you,
step away from the gallows,
get down from the scaffold

come to, for you, to get collected,
the unaffected,
the undirected,
road trip to the unexpected,
place where the disconnection is
disconnected,
where the unexpected, that's you,
expected

I know you well
I know you all

you are my desirables,
my touched untouchables,
wilderness voices,
no longer crying,
bound for greatness

from hands to pockets,
my chosen ones,
now my protected

No more unhappy birthday parties
that no one comes too
no need to pretend, sell love,
to the takers of advantage,

now on you breathe in an atmosphere
I've collected,
100% exhaled relief breaths,
purelled oxygen, fresh start air

no more disaffected,
now fuel injected,
now that you are
in and among the
touched, carried,
the affected,
the every poem read...
A few hours have forgotten the sky
as they tremble in their sleep.
Truly they are delicate,
you can hear them softly weep.

Water becomes unwanted
as it's blown across and battered.
Yet, the water keeps on  praying,
as if it really matters.

We drown in the reality
that every day brings us in the night.
Still,
regret sees you and I,
and our skin forgets to fight.

Now, fire drips from all we hear
and the wind begins to howl.
We ask if this is heaven or hell,
and to the music
we all bow.
