The Mother Tongue
Megan Sherman Mar 2017
The Lords think they taught us how to speak
When the vernacular was developed by the people
So don't be subservient or meek
Sweep high in the sky, past their steeple
The mother tongue is a democrat
The word on wayward route goes bold
Sing it loud and proud on ancient lyre
Truth blazing in fires of gold

On my stair
Megan Sherman Sep 2016
I saw an angel on my stair
I asked "what are you doing there?"
His kindly smile betrayed no words
Still I knew in my heart I was one of his herd

I saw him again, up a tree
Smiling, beaming back to me
His locks of flame, his fiery might
Burning softly through the night

I asked him again: what are you doing there,
Angel who appeared on my stair?
he flashed the smile that I revered
And then he winked and disappeared.

I am very passionate about the object of my heart's affection
I try to get the message over that I am enamoured of your flame
But often I get slapped down for going my passion's direction
For having loved I have nevertheless been made ashamed
Thinking, ruminating on the ******* form of Beauty
At least that's how you have always appeared to me
You and your sermon are my spirit's entreaty
That beseeches, implores my mind mesmerisingly
The perfect opportunity of Love I often destroy
For ignorance of how to give perfect care
In my moods I fall and fall, like Troy
Attesting to my spirit's shame and the poverty there
But still I'd love to love and love again
With one who can teach me how to make amends

'Tis horrible to wield a word
To slight and slander me
'Tis better to deploy them
For fable, myth and story

There are maddest multitudes in words
Contain divinest sense
It's possible to convey magic
In every single tense

But bastardize words cynically
If you really must
But know in slight you've broken
The cherishable crystal of my trust

A bard is hard to pigeonhole
So, really, mate, try it all you like
I'll be waxing lyrical
While you're still playing psych

Ballad For The Babes
Megan Sherman Mar 2017
Atop the tor with ancient horn
Blows bardic spirit newly born
With magic emblazoned on their tongue
A descant begging to be sung
Through the saccharine morn

This is the song. The babes rejoice
To hear the magical ludic voice
They sway, and clap, and swing their heads
As bard goes round them with gentle treads

The music paints their passion red
Alight! For cosmic sense is said
The flame of love be theirs to behold
A treasure that can't be bartered, sold
That brings life back to the dead

To each other we tend
All hearts in unison
In grief and sorrow
Knowing that some
Are bereft of Life's tomorrow
All hands in unison
To steep in prayer
Devoting homilies
Filled with perfect care
All life in harmony
Will find it's way

In hidden hinterlands of space
Betwixt the whirring spheres
Are marvels time cannot erase
With the bludgeon of her years

In stars’ cascade one sees clear
Nature’s hand, so accurate
The creations of her mind
Like pearls immense, immaculate

The majesty of multitudes
Is embodied in the expanse
Its bodies waltz and pirouette
In celestial romance

Walking cross the Milky Way
We could see on and on forever
Into an infinity of untrod realms
Untouched by man’s endeavor

For want of it the cosmic mystery
We may never fully grasp
But such ignorance is bliss to me
It’s enough to be in nature’s clasp

Through my heart a warm breeze blew
For having seen a soul so true
With one smile, love, with one smile

With one kiss, love, with one kiss
We danced resplendent in the shine
Of Lover's sun, we intertwined
I've never felt a soul so kind
With one kiss, love, with one kiss

With one embrace, love, with one embrace
You sent me flying sideways
One touch sent my heart ablaze
Enveloping me in Love's warm haze
With one embrace, love, with one embrace

To spread the word to kith and kin
That evil ruse has wooed the land
Despite us waving benevolent wand
The evil chants and makes its din

We will surmount this evil yoke
That doth the sweet heathen voice choke
And dwell once more in dreams bespoke
For being rapt by truth I shook

And didn't like to have partook
But to truth I must be faithful, devout
And malevolent schemes I must query, doubt
And babble their story like a brook

The Sweat Shop Child
Megan Sherman Apr 2017
When I went to work I was but a child,
And so I did not get to wake to go wild,
In mirthful song, "cheep! cheep! he-he!"
So I sweat for you and sweep your factories.

My best friend Anushka, who lost his left arm,
Because the factories don't care if we come to harm,
"Hush little Anushka for pain does not last,"
"It does; they want me to work twice as fast!"

And yet he was blessed, that night in his sleep,
In to the realm of the Angels he peeped,
All children he saw them, at work, at their looms,
Captive and caged in the satanic rooms.

Stooped down from Heaven, a god with a foot,
That stamped on the walls till they were dust and were soot,
Down valleys, in rivers, the children rejoice,
Filling the sound of the Earth with their voice.

God, speechless with Love for their souls, so bold,
Enveloped them in his aura of gold,
The zephyr divine for which Saints forfeit vice,
Given freely to children for their being so nice.

Anushka awoke, and walked to work for miles,
Over the valleys and over the hills,
Though the factories loomed, Anushka did not fear,
For he possessed what tyrant does not; knowledge that God is near.

Beyond The Veil
Megan Sherman Feb 2017
A veil of light and ashen grey
invites me to peer in to stranger day
fluttering and beckoning
behind it what is happening?
a smorgasboard of molten colour
winks at me, summons me near
I become swept up, in hurricane
that rolls and waves across the plane
of one reality in to another

'Tis here I feel my spirit brew
imbued with bright, celestial hue
deep in hinterlands of enchanting joy
where I ravish these pleasures coy
too overwhelmed to fight, resist
the very light with which I'm kissed
from famished eyes I am engorged
my tender spirit enlarged
on trajectory of bliss

On horizon, magic gestates
Leaves my spirit insatiate
Adorned by sparks phantasms brood
Lifting like hot air balloon my mood
Between chasm of magic and reality
Goes visions with conviviality
Enchanting the mind with true force
Summoned from natures magic purse
Which sprinkles havoc on normality

Forms of Beauty riddle my eye
With their heavenly symmetry
Godesseses of divinest shine
Beam soul-deep, from theirs to mine
Behind the veil of usual routine
Lies awesome truth with golden sheen
Nourishing the spirits belly
To magical shores the spirit ferried
Enamoured of most lucid of dreams

A fire, pierced the dark
We do not know its flame
Only that within a bang
The elements, they came

And then, the fire raged
Expansion, from the core
And then condensed in to the things
The Hubble searches for

We glance with star struck eyes
At orbs of transcendent light
They look like winking beads, I thought
In their epic flight

Like life, they’re superstructures
I offer them my awe
As I row upon the Milky Way
As I step out the door

Beneath the cosmic canopy
That mystical frontier
Beneath which we can’t comprehend
Its truths so strange and queer

More In Common
Megan Sherman Nov 2016
Her heart is dominant
She irradiates care and concern
A passion righteous and militant
In plenitude it burns
A believer in community
She plots to draw people together
Everybody’s best interests
Are at the heart of her endeavor
She represents the best qualities
That people are generally given
By compassion, kindness and humility
She is first and foremost driven
When one day she’s cruelly taken
I cry and hang my head
For a moment it feels like hope is gone
And like all that’s good in the world is dead
But love won, it conquers all
With tragedy it multiplies
Our world could not fail to be touched
By a heart so strong, and of that size
She implored we have more in common
Than all that which divides us
It’s a philosophy we ought to keep
At heart, and anchor deep inside us
Now she’s gone the world has been robbed
Of its champion, its truest pal
But wherever community triumphs
There her spirit will dwell
This is in memory of British MP Jo *** who was murdered in June this year.

There is nothing left of this Love but a hollow husk
All its fulsome fruits have withered and perished
Casts upon my heart a twilight, a dank dusk
For loss of all that's treasured, cherished
Availed of nothing, my Heart goes rueful
Disenchanted, in to the ambiguous night
At least in Love I had been truthful
Had dug deep and put in the fight
Now I verse on sunless sky
Bereft of its rivers and fires of gold
No enchanting sounds go like ribbons by
No magick in my heart unfolds
But I think you have done me a favour
By making sure this dalliance over

Beat wings against the moon
Touch bonny rainbow, on and on

Eternal Dream (Nirvana)
Megan Sherman Jun 2018
On golden wings of blazing fire
Burnished with colours of desire
The angel Lennon grafts, aspires
With beauty suffice to be sung to lyres
I let my mind swim with golden sight
Climbed his wings, took nascent flight
Skies burnished with colours of delight
Aura in the sparkling night
To stratosphere I swooped, sweet soar
With that boy irresistible to adore
Ferried to seismic heavenly shores
As inspiration from the ether pours
We twisted, twirled beyond stratosphere
Where earthen angels rain their tears
Untainted by bludgeon of times years
Immortal dears soothe mortal fears
All four John Blake Buddha and Ganesh
Hearts with luscious light enmeshed
To them all pray in their distress
For mercy, pity, peace and bless
Upon a light beam we met angels of the sky
Chasing light that follows where those bonny angels fly
Mesmerised as they pirouette resplendently
Sirens snaring mortals to hear sweet eternity
Trumpet my arrival as I stand with Shiva, God
Pensive at the font of time, his wisdom I applaud
The true divine creator hidden behind religious fraud
Of his sublime divinity I, pilgrim, am assured
Then to cosmic churning to hear divinely truth
The music madly burning with its beauty rare forsooth
Transcendent destination borne of sultry spiritual path
And now the wisdom of heaven I in earnest surely hath
The churning music sang to me:
NO YOU, NO I, ONLY ONE HEART, WE
Embroils with my mind seismically
As truth knell out resplendently
Ascended from that churning ocean
In all its glorious commotion
To Kali dance in incessant motion
Ending my hearts trepidation
Vesuvian woman in golden O
Hath me mesmerised rapt in throe
She the deva see how she go
A heavenly rainbow to and fro
The golden O the Buddhist crown
Of enlightenment in which I drown
The snub of which the sages frown
A knowledge heart not head to own
Zoomed back to earth to take my place
As ambassador for angelic race
In us the light of love apace
A force to vanquish evil disgrace
Nirvana came a state of mind
Lucid gorgeous and refined
Time and love both intertwined
As in its clime I to the Bodhi tree bind
This my tale of an eternal door
Shown by boy irresistible to adore
He is a legend in modern lore
Sang end of war, could love no more
Saved me from a devils hand
On oppressed shore and oppressed sand
Helped a fallen spirit stand
Fixed her with his wanton wand
Lennon is the friend of sages
With wisdom felt not read from pages
Vanquish hell transcend the ages
Unlock the dark satanic cages

I saw him not in suavest suit
For he is coy at a disguise
And disguise is mastery in that place
Infested by swarms of spies
Those wretched parasites on haunch
Of Beauty who inspires lullabies

He sauntered 'mongst that drifting crowd
In worksmen's clothes and cap
A pair of aviators on
To beguile the crowd perhaps
He cocked his head and stared at me
My heart swooped soared and clapped

I never saw a man so sweet
As he, eyes' charm potent, intense
Gazed upon this pilgrim rapt
Her heart filled with awe immense
And with every step her Love increased
Put past to reason, sense

I chained myself in soul and body
To him, my kinship flame
And was wondering if so his malady
Would become less tender, tame
When I sensed his drudgery, demise
Was a baron's law, endgame

Oh Lord! The very glow of Love
Seemed then to wither, die
And a chasm opened in my Heart
As wide and deep as sky
My soul was barbed with thorns of Christ
To think of Him with earthworms lie

To think of that Heart hunted, hung
In tyrants grim steel net
Sullied my very own with pain
Not even sight of him could abet
Dolorous I sobbed and screamed
Till my cheeks were red and wet

To **** the man who loved the world
So much he staked his soul
To bring down tyrants castle
Whose oppression the mind appal
But his heart forever beatific, bright
Have pilgrims rapt in thrall

That he loves too much may be his sin
Some others too little, theirs
Their truths sell at an ugly rate
His for free he shares
Knowledge for the masses true
Not a tyrants wares

White Noise
Megan Sherman Nov 2016
I roved on a breeze,
Searching for the sounds that snare,
Ah! I’ve reached the seas!

Music of the beach:
In clement climes calypso
Sounds riot, mad, hot.

The kooky notes bounce,
Calling limbs to undulate,
Putting spark in them.

It's celebration,
Worship of life, love, laughter,
Expressed in bold style.

Limbs swing loose, the dance
in zest protests the squat, staid sky,
as bleak as a dirge.

Another music:
Waves crush, crashing over me,
Sounds like maracas.

Churning itself the
Sea has enigmatic sounds
Off the spectrum of

Perception. Our ears,
Too blunted by the loud world,
Hears sea’s beauty not.

Ocean's nocturne lost,
Sea-creature symphonies that
Elude our dulled ears.

Too fine tuned for ads,
telly, society's safe sounds
which cut, sever us

from the raw, primal
sounds of the earth, the sounds which
hide in shells, caves, seas.

Man's sound is sullied
In nature's eyes, we are just
White noise, meaning nil.

Roving home I stop,
Thinking of ways to listen
to her speak her soul.

All souls that pray to Heaven in distress
Appeal to that realm's King to banish pain
For pity, peace and mercy and for bless
Find in love of him end of disdain
That hippy Lord, the shepherd boy divine
The sacred heart of Mary in thy chest
Is there beauty commensurate to thine
In all the world? I make of thee my nest
My rock, my passion, inspiration too
My muse, my altar, prophet love the child
Who tender in their sleep protect by you
With golden gentle aura ever mild
Angels song for thee exalts thy heart
Beget their alms of praise to honour thee
When on black day on hell's hill you depart
Hung upon a cross of misery
The masses weep in sorrow cry for days
Time condemns the crowd of braying brutes
Believe not thee but lies Barabus says
See Pontius Pilot in wicked cahoots
But thy compassion vindicates thy name
Jesus Christ the muse of divine souls
Indulge the joy of you without sin, shame
Your suffering? Their righteousness appalled
Let all the world all time praise thy sweet dreams
Of paradise for virtuous and kind
Who live as single heart one with no seam
And dwell in love: activity refined

Juggernaut
Megan Sherman Nov 2016
He staggers like a juggernaut
Wading through the world
The stars spin out from ‘neath his feet
The ways and paths unfurl
The majesty of meandering
Is embodied in his stride
He travels long, in tuneful song
Poet of his pride

This Life - A Liqour Sweet
Megan Sherman Jul 2018
This life - is like a liquor - sweet
Intoxicating bliss
‘Tis to be a poet
To see sunshine as a kiss
To see the trees as folk of Earth
And ocean - as world’s blood
That keeps her ever living
That sweet - mysterious - flood
Life is an amazement
To her - I am stupefied in awe
She bustles in the tenements
Behind - beyond - every door

Remover of Obstacles
Megan Sherman Nov 2016
I guess you were showing me I have choices
To manipulate those inner voices
The liars in me that deceived
Their fictions I had hitherto believed
Those voices took a while to surmount
Of the tortured days I lost my count
Repeating threats and mocking me
They taunted me most horribly
But sometimes they soothed my head with music
Imploring me to wisely use it
Giving me words and rhymes and ideas
Quelling all my awful fears
Knowing that they can be seduced
My voices I cleverly reduced
To my handy, willing apprentices
Even though I’m still cognis mentis
The obstacle remover gave me a chance
To improve my life and to enhance
My experience of the world as a whole
I’m so glad she touched my soul

The Juggler
Megan Sherman Dec 2016
The only thing I ever loved
Was placed just out of reach
Torturing with his presence
No change as I beseech

His Mind - was free of any stain
Lucid - and acute
His Eyes, pensive, mysterious
His Generosity I salute

His Hands - as skilled as Nature
His Gait - was staunch, like Trees
But I am an appalling creature
He has other people to tease

Because I could dare to believe,
The angel Lennon stooped for me,
The contact between two kindred souls,
And eternity,

We quickly flew - he knew not slow,
And I had climbed his wings,
With passion and with ardour,
Most cherishable of things,

We passed the earthen angels bright,
Blake, Buddha and Ganesha,
We passed them diligently working,
With Love's light enmeshed,

And then, upon a lightbeam,
We met Angels of the sky,
Chasing light that follows,
Where those bonny Angels fly,

We paused before a God that seemed,
Like Shiva, bright, supreme,
Painted like the cosmos,
With pallet got from dream,

And then to cosmic churning,
To hear divinest truths,
The music madly burning,
With beauty rare, forsooth,

Since then - I am an angel too
Guardian of the South,
Feels good to me that I strove to fly,
Right back in to spiritual health.
