I knew I loved you
when the first thought
I had when I saw you
was that I was finally
home.

I used to feel dead.
like everything I did
was mechanic and
routinely.  

With no feeling in my body or my mind or my soul.

When I first met you
was the first time
I was made aware
that my heart was beating.

That it was possible for me to feel alive.

Before I met you, my world was
black and white
boring and uneventful
tiring and much too long.

Before I met you, my soul was
dark and gloomy
deteriorated and torn
hopeless and lost.

Before I met you, my heart was
broken and in pieces
misused and contorted
distressed and not trusting.

But now that you're here,
my world is thrilling and colorful
my soul is hopeful and bright
and
my heart is loving and whole.

I think I'm finally starting to
love myself a bit more,
laugh a bit more,
smile a bit more,
enjoy life a bit more,
and
am thankful to be alive
a bit more.

I cut my hair short.
I feel like with the hair,
I've left behind the old me.
I'm just one more step closer to
finally accepting myself.

I find myself holding on
to things that didn't
put in the effort
to hold on to me.

If there was one sight
I wish I never saw...
It would be your back
as you walked away
from what we had.
