Thinking Out Loud
Sometimes
I look at couples

with their perfect families

               holding tight to a
kaleidoscope
          of joy

and I wonder
why everything I see

is so black and white

        and I wish
someone could show me
a glimpse
                  of color that doesn't fade

The Wanderer
A man in the corner whistles a melody long forgotten, except by him

People walk by and continue their day without paying him any mind

Yet still he whistles

He whistles a tune that sounds so familiar that if I told you the name you would sigh relief

Ask him for the name next time you should meet

He'll be the one on the corner.

Whistling his solemn soliloquy

the bitters of winter
                      hath called this very day
                               upon tender shoots of grass
                                                        its coldness did lay

 an icy unpleasantness
                            which remorselessly kills
                                               whatever lies under
                                                                   its acrid chill

winter shall reign over
these parts for many a day
                                               and its frosty cover
                                                               shall have its willful way

the warming feel of summer
                        gone for some while
                                        replaced by winter's
                                                           harsh freezing bile
