Tea for Two
Lauren Cardente Jun 2017
I'm not a romantic or the one you like
It's not been reiterated
And it hasn't for months
I'm not a beauty with eligant pearls or nearly five, two
I'm not who you want to see
I can look right through
I don't feel it
I'm not your cup of tea
So please stop insulting me
There's a push as I try to hold you
A pull away as I try to take your hand
You don't like me like I do you
There's a pause and swaying for a month or two
You sit in silence when I speak the words
You told me all I am is blue
Too bad you didn't see the other colors too
Months ago I wrote for the last line: "I wish you saw the other colors too" sometimes it's good to give poems time just like anything really.

Numb Head
Lauren Cardente Jun 2017
He is confused they whispered with blood dripping from their teeth.
Feasting on the things he can't reach so he must starve himself or drown in whiskey and a packs of cigarettes
Bathing in the smoke
Everything is tasteless
He stiffer and cold with numbness to comfort the frostbites nibbling
Hanging from his nuise
He is just confused they growled
I forgot I ever wrote this, I think I was feeling a little numb headed

Summer Way
Lauren Cardente Apr 2017
It's almost summers breath
Time for you to take a rest
Lay down your gentle skin
And bare your arms of sin

There's a place she goes
Where no one else will know
Time, time again
Have you counted your the cuts on your skin
The bruises in your hair

It's a better place out there
Called it a summers safe
Reaching for better lines to say
Where is the day in us
Is there a truth to learn with a your touch
To go fleeting once before you see
Waiting for the summer so you can breathe

Retreat her to the winter
Cause you don't like icicle splinters

And It's almost summers breath
Time for you to take a rest
Lay down your gentle skin
And bare your arms of sin

There's a better place I know
And I'll miss you in the snow
Yet bare your arms of sin
There's a better place within
And many miles you must go
To escape this frigid snow

See you in the morning
See you in mistakes
So take your Novocaine
To different season
Time is leaving
Your bleeding
Away today

Save your coins
Pine your rest
For the breast
Of Summers way

Down Your Drain
Lauren Cardente Apr 2017
You've got a body covered in chalk
Fingers dipped
Skin coated
Flakes of white
Consuming mistakes in black board utensils
Swallowed too much powder
Stomach churning, feeling sour
Now you're bloated
Rotating the dial of the phone
Neutralize the reaction
Feelings of unsatifaction
Chug your milk in gallons
Before the powder sinks it's tallons
Or dump it down the drain

The Storm
Lauren Cardente Apr 2017
Ships lost at sea
Sea spray vandalized the decks
Her hair will fan her face like a main
The women has no breath twas stollen by the sea
Floats like a ghost
Pale she is indeed
Spices sink into the blue
Swallowed by the depth
Sails are torn, sails are failing
Along with stories not spoken
The graveyard is the sea

Let me say i care, and that i’ll temper your fever
For i am here to listen and to linger
I’ll linger after high school and as long as I am wanted
And if you decide nashville's too far
And decide to leave me for your wooden guitar
I will sit at the greyhound station
Because like i said i’ll linger
And  if you meet another young blond with a lot of pens but no fancy guitars
And who knows she may have pens and guitars
And like me she likes the scent of you
And if you decide she's pretty inside
Then i urge you to kiss her and love her and wish for her like i do for you
Because if you love me you surely know i want your happiness to be with you even when you're on the road
And maybe i won't be the girl you love
Yet we made a promise that we’ll always be friends
In the parking lot i held a potted plant in between my thighs and you swore into my eyes who the hell knows we did it before and we can do it again cause i love you deeply and kindly
Cause long before you felt my lips, dips and curves you knew when exactly i needed a coffee or a good cry.
Because we can dance to a room with no music like we can love without sleeping
And we don’t own people
Not for a second or even a day
They can fly or say goodbye at any moment or time
But i decided long long ago a life watching you love another girl would be okay
If you remember how much sugar i take in my coffee and how to love me as love you:
Truly wanting you to be happy even if it means not being with me
Side note: the coffee is good at this greyhound station

Closed Minds
Lauren Cardente Apr 2017
To the holes in her socks
To the mats in her hair
To the grease in her pores
To the dirt in her nails
You don’t know her story nor the stress she may wear
Nor her laughter nor smile and silent whisper
For all you see is a  passing figure
For you to laugh at and to snort and snicker
So walk to a door that is locked shut
and quietly stare to see if she gives a flying ****

Coal People
Lauren Cardente Apr 2017
I.
Was the embers of the fireplace at eleven fifty four: a time, a measure, a number?,
and you couldn't fall into sleeps gripping reach as you got undressed
The cold contents of the wooded room
Impeding rest soon. Soon you rest. Soon you rest.
II.
Now you lay me down to sleep.
The earth was the eve coloured as dust.
The fire on the far side that burned like rust.
The flames that painted the rectangle bricks.
Softly muttered what song to sing?
Black smoke hushed a low simmer.
The birch crackled its warm breast for you to lean to.
While the silence had adhered to.
There is the hush of the cold and the popping of the fire,
for you, you had desires of a warm sleep.
Two cold feet walk you to warmth in the room.

III.
Whilst all the others rested in slumber
You trusted the coal people burrowing on in they provided warmth for the numb within:
And burned away your frostbitten nose.
They chewed the pain of your frozen toes.

IV.
Illuminations swayed with shadow
you're exhausted lips had caved
For the furrowed light had lighten slumbers way

V.
The house was finally silent at six past the two, twelve hands
You had burrowed in the arms of the people of coal and you had fallen into sleep's gentle hold.

VI.
By dawn the coal people had gone away
The fire twas at at the break of day
Charcoal ashes covered your pale skin as the far side fireplace was dimmed
Your freckles peaked between the black.
Yet now
Now you sleep now you sleep, now they lay you down to sleep.

Burning Countries
Lauren Cardente Apr 2017
Her skin is a peach and light and delectable
The bed is positioned far below
The man that stands in the shadows
Bends to the youth
He caresses the youth
His hands are soldiers that invaded her country
Her home, her property burned by the torch
Her eyes are filled with fear
And his with dictatorship

Farewell to Molecules
Lauren Cardente Apr 2017
Something about the way they say that they care about you so tenderly.
How they tell you they are there for you and you have them.

You breathe in their scent and they suckle on the taste of you.

You devour each other until there is only the flavor of each other’s personalities on your lips and theirs.
Sometimes the nectar of yourself just isn’t enough
They grow sick of the taste of you.

And in turn you grow sickened by your own reflection.

Because you know that you are filled with such sweet nectar and you have scars branded on you back from your youth and bicycle crashes.

Whom is to say that’s not enough flavor,

So how can their sleepy eyed goodbyes and confusion define someone like you.

Someone who was carved out of red clay and carries pencils like knifes to fend off those nightmares from your childhood.

Someone who loves with every atom and shatters with every molecule.

That’s all you’re defined as a molecule, and now you’ve become split.
Just like what they did: split

Hospital Sheets
Lauren Cardente Apr 2017
I.
Air is cold inside of psychiatric hospitals
As it is in any hospital really
But in psych wards there is an emphasis on feeling and the temperature dial being set low
It raises the hair on your skin straight upwards
Like a standing ovation
Like you are covered with tiny needles extending from your skin
It feels unnaturally raw
Exposed even
Like your organs have been set out onto a table
For strangers with higher degrees of education to poke at
In rather uncomfortable temperatures.

II.
Then there is the johnny
The dressing gown
Which reveals the many cuts and bruises you've got under the places that used to be clothed
Behold the surface of your body that lives in shadows
Hides.
That you starve,
And scratch,
And hate,
The people with medical degrees feel every inch of you.
Where he felt that night.
**** stop.
Then there's the needles on your skin again poking out.
A defense mechanism
You're human porcupine.

III.
It's silent as you pace towards your hospital bed
No one stirs
The window next to your bed has names and words carved in it with nails
Passing patients so eager to leave their mark
The air is still cold and you lay under thin sheets
Feeling every place where the blankets drap over your exposed skin.
So where did today go wrong
and why
Is there a pit within you
As you gulp for the chilly air?
