Small and dainty
like a tiny ballerina on a music box,
arms reaching above your head
as you pirouette on your toes.
Your chin tilts upward with
bright ruby-red lips poised,
ready for your very first kiss.
I immersed in my favorite river,
asked "Aren't you for ever?"
hers was a story of horror,
and impending demise.
An echo endlessly reverberates-
across the cosmic serpentine space;
what sound gave birth to it,
no one knows!
Rain falling on a mountain top
one drop at a time, dissolving,
changing, rearranging,
the shape of the world
and so we wear down continents.
one drop at a time.

Thoughts falling on a fertile mind
one idea at a time, dissolving,
changing, rearranging
the shape of the world,
and so we wear down prejudice.
one idea at a time.

Earth collides along a fault line
one inch at a time, building,
changing, rearranging,
the shape of the world
and so we build vast continents,
one inch at a time.

Compassion holds out hands of hope
one kindness at a time, building,
changing, rearranging,
the shape of the world
and so we build community,
one kindness at a time.
You're a quiet thought in the middle of the night,
when I'm so tired I can't sleep
My saving grace when I can't catch my breath,
or take that next step
I'm doing this for you, even though I'll never have you,
my love
Trying to tell myself I'm used to being alone,
the old lie
Telling it to myself for so long I almost believe it
But I can't fool these sleepless nights,
methodically destroying my illusion
These sleepless nights which run me into the ground
And when I finally fall asleep, I dream of nothing
Conscience, consuming.
My stomach has turned inside
and in on itself.

My eyes have rotted
and reduced to such lifeless,
stationary orbs.

Today is the day,
I ***** my weaknesses
to teach myself strength.

You're the words of love
with every turn of the page
of my life, that burns
bright in the night,
and sets the day's scene
just right,
for the love you
bring, starts the story
to sing, and the melody
drifts through every chapter
like mists surrounding me,
and you continue the tune,
with every page
that I view,
from the beginning,
until the end,
and then I re-read
it all over again,
the book that you've
entitled, "I Love You"
-because the story is true:
"I love you, too!"
