And tuck
new whispers soft within,

How much profit

on your greed

How has your
avarice

A glutton

How many times

you to hell

Will The Present Forget
Kurt Philip Behm Nov 2016
On which side of the authority line
  do you fall…

      The pulpit,
      The assembly line,
      The suite down the hall

Who makes the decisions,
  do you stand—do you kneel

Is it giving or receiving,
do you take—do you steal

How many horizons,
  do your dreams fall behind

Staying distant—uncertain,
  not in view to remind

Where your memories lie,
  are your promises kept

Is the past now your future,

My days and nights
  death in between
  trouble in front—behind

The devil hijacking my
  fondest dream
  trouble in front—behind

She said she loved me

  trouble in front—behind

The day I got fired

  trouble in front—behind

I pass out ******
  and wake up hard
  trouble in front—behind

With time my warden
  and sentence scarred

My children’s names

The doctor warns…
  “Not one more fall”
  trouble in front—behind

Excuses inked

The politics of religion,
its statues on fire
All martyred saints burning
in canonized pyre

As cardinals of vengeance
seek new hearts to be ******
Inquisitors ramble,
the Creator on loan

The religion of politics,
papal decrees
Guilt laden promises,
salvationists fee

Crusaders on horseback,
twelve Apostles alone
Which is more dangerous,
the Word or the throne

(Chorus)

“Raise the curtain—praise the Lord,
  darkness censures fast
Faith though blind, still hope to find,
beyond iconoclasts

“With eyes wide open, see the light,
all else to render lies
His love unending, given free,
eternal life the prize”

There once was a time when women could cook,

Education was by the book,

Parents visited their own parent’s homes,

And life was so much better then

There once was a time when women could cook,

Hearts were pure as dogs roamed free,

To wander past your memory,

One day beyond mourning, the bed sheets unfold

One day beyond mourning, the sun in my eyes

One day beyond mourning, my soul free to roam

Hope spawning a sunrise

All joy upon waking

Humbly I Pray
Kurt Philip Behm May 2019
Tonight through the darkness,
  I wander and crawl

The faces all ghoulish,
  my past to recall

Unsure of direction,
  I listen for sounds

To possibly guide me,
  as fire abounds

I look to my left,
  as hooves thunder past

I look to my right,
  and Beelzebub laughs

All color has gone,
  just the fieriest red

I live out my fear,
  I live out my dread

One hope then to muster,
  that faith remains true

And guides me inclement,
  past demons anew

My despair almost total,
  my regret full in charge

I squint through the smoke,
  “there’s new light from afar”

I plod on my knees,
  as it grows bigger still

And the temperature drops,
  and the moment refills

Now free of damnation,
  my life starts again

With sacred commitment,
  forgiven of sin

My tomorrows all cherished,
  I live for today

Belief my true savior
  —as humbly I pray
