When everything is wrong
This will be my poem
This will be the burning voice
A ghost, giving me no choice

This will be my poem
This is how I will hold on
This will be my forever after
All the tears inside the laughter

This is how I will hold on
This poem will make me strong
Even though my heart is stone
This is what I call home

This poem will make me strong
No matter how long I hold on
I will stand here as long as it takes
Willing my soul whole even as it breaks

No matter how long I hold on
Time is useless when it's gone
My soul will be shattered
but pieces may be gathered

Time is useless when it's gone
but it echoes in my song
This will be my poem
I'll forever call it Home

A COAT LINED WITH NAILS

With his head in his hands
And his heart on his sleeve
He closes his eyes against the light of day
And against his quiet despair
He pretends it is not real

But part of him knows
Deep down amongst half-remembered dreams
Emotions that appear from nowhere
And linger
Every cell of him knows

He knows a loss without closure
A conversation without words
Dreams without endings
And hoping without hope

He hears a knock on the door
But no-one walks in
He puts his head in his hands
And his heart on his sleeve
He pretends it is not real

The Astronomer

He lies flat on the rooftop
looking at the stars.

Useless worlds birthing and dying
he muses
the colossal magnificence of waste

if atrophy is the verdict
why create a complex web of universe
just because someone from an island
would stare at them
in awe of the beauty
seeking a key to the riddle
himself a grain of dust
lost in reading the firmament
and not grasping
of what significance
he is
within his shrinking space and time
in an expanding universe.
