It's been raining all night long
And I've been singing sad love songs
Looking at the sky so dark and gloomy
The air so wet and cold and hazy

Looking from my window
At the streets so wet and dreary
And the rain came slowly down
As though it had not the spirit to pour
That's exactly how I feel tonight
Sad, emotionless, empty, lonely

I pray for a little sunshine
For a new light at the end
For warmth once more to fill my heart
Banish sadness from my soul
To bring new joy after long wet days
Bring a new life, a new start
For what is yet to come

Begone dark clouds of sadness
Begone wet cold, begone
Welcome to a brand new life
Welcome a new beginning
Although the rain has played its part
The sun will warm the living

The sun has warmed my aching heart
No more sorrow, no more pain
Dark clouds have been lifted from my mind
By sunshine after rain
We all suffer from depression and dark thoughts from time to time
But above the darkest clouds the sun will always shine

343
Yes remember that number
Many of you will never understand the significance of
343
But that is the number of firefighters
Who died that infamous day on 9/11
Why did they die?
Simply because the lives of others
Meant more to them than their own lives
Yes, they were nervous, even scared
But they never faltered
Their final sacrifice on our behalf
Means that there is still hope
Their solidified blood
Is the foundation that a great nation
Has built an even greater nation on
Never forget that number

Along the Valley
Of the Mississippi
Bluffs and Banks
Covered in trees
Whisper barely
In the Summers
Breeze,
Content to hang
In the Humidity
As Fall Comes
With Oranges
Yellows and Russets
The Rustle becomes
A Whisper from
Tree to tree, of
The Coming Soon
Wintery, they say
Their Goodbyes
With Soft Leafy
Sighs, and Promise
In the spring to meet
And for those not there
They will Morn the Passing
Bringing Blooms to their Graves

Many words written without feeling mean nothing
BUT
A few words written with love
Mean everything

Walking the gravel roads that my
Ancestors walked before me,
I feel the ghosts of their struggles
Beneath my feet.

But also their voices; laughter,
Infant legs running towards fathers
With shouldered axes and saws and
Smelling of forestry.

Weary, but not too weary to pick up
A child for an afternoon embrace.
The trees still sing the songs they sang
Them to sleep with;

Bellies full of barley or not at all.
Despair and hardship, yes.
But more. The land remembers
Their lullabies.

Collections
Most of us follow some
Are members or editors of others
Some are used in the spirit of poetry
While others are abused in equal measure
I for one would never post one of my own poems
To A Notch Above The Daily Fluff
That is for my peers to decide, not me
Poets Corner Collected Poems
Is a brand new collection and as usual all are welcome
To follow
Please only post appropriately to this collection
Collections are here for you to use
Collections shouldn't be abused
