When your last breath has been taken

The final curtain drawn

What memories will you leave behind

In the hearts of those you've known

Will it be there was a Godly man

Or have mercy on his soul

Choose this day what they will say

For tomorrow never knows

life is hard
and cruel
life has
bitten my hand
worse than that
it has broken
my heart

“Tick, tock,”
says the Clock
No!
Not another day gone?
Just like that?

These days go by
like dust in the wind,
Slipping through our fingers
before they can even begin

Days that quickly turn into weeks,
and weeks that bleed into months
Until another year has gone by,
in just the blink of an eye…

So there’s one thing for certain,
Something wont to be denied:
The constant tick,
of the Clock’s tireless hand,
has us constantly saying goodbye
to Life, one measly day at a time…

And with that thought, I bid adieu
to this past year, too
And welcome yet, another one —
Let’s see how quickly this one dares to run
Sometimes I wish I was a taxi driver because I don't believe there is more honest person on earth.

They hear the apologies of intoxicated teenagers on their way home from club, that they used to fake ID's to get into.

They hear quarrels between frisky lovers who drank too much on their dinner date and can't wait to shed their clothing.

They hear the rumblings of elderly folk complaining about gas prices and the brand name stores that put the local businesses under.

but sometimes, they hear the confessions of lonely travelers who were wandering the streets at 3 in the morning, contemplating how they would like to take their life, until they saw a taxi cab driving so fast and realized it was their sign to go home.

this poem will be here for just a moment
soon to be dust in the wind
in the shortest of time it will eventually find
it's way to the bottom of the bin

it might bring a touch of joy or sadness
but that depends on you
and at the time you read it
the frame of mind your mood

it won't take you to the mountain top
soaring to the very heights
or take you to the depths of despair
where it keeps you up at night

it won't bring peace to all the nations
it won't have us holding hands
it won't repair any of the damage
that's been done over the course of time by man

it won't open any minds
or close doors on the best forgotten
in the least amount of time
it'll come and go from every noggin

chances are it won't be remembered
five minutes after it's gone
and without a tune to carry it
it may not even last that long
Hear her wails in the dead of night
they signify someones death tonight.
Foreboding this harbinger of deaths message
does wait at the threshold.

The reaper comes and snags you,
brings you through the shadows pull.
You think of how it came to be
that your life, so wonderful,
has come to an end.
With one Banshee's call.

So young and newly married
Hanging on by the thread of love
Sometimes though in life we see
That thread isn't wound tight enough

Through the daily struggles
Most of them unseen
What happened to the newlywed
Where went all the dreams

Holding on
Barely holding on...

A father and husband out of work
A family living out of the car
Is this the American dream we've built
Is this now where we are

Cardboard serves a purpose
As a bed and a homemade sign
To keep the cold off of the floor
Hey brother can you spare a dime

Holding on
Barely holding on...

The doctors diagnosis
Doesn't give much hope for life
Just a simple six months ago
There was no thought of dying

Even less hope in your case
Just prolonging time
You could spend what little you have left
Or go ahead and say your goodbyes

Holding on
Barely holding on...

No matter your life's lot
The position that you hold
We're all in the same boat on the same stream
Trying to stay afloat

There are so many different scenarios
Which could haunt many a page
That in life continually follow us
Throughout all our days of

Holding on
Barely holding on...

I often wonder why all the anger
Over a God that to you doesn't exist
Who now is swinging the righteous hammer
On which side is ignorance bliss

I'm not here to try and persuade you
This simple rhyme won't change any minds
It may be forgotten as soon as it's read through
Laid to waste on the roadside of lost time

I'm really just trying to understand it
Why so much hate for something if it's not even there
And why all the constant demanding
Where what you have to offer leads to nowhere

Perhaps it's religion that's the root of your problem
But seriously haven't you religiously organized yourselves
I'm really just trying to get to the bottom
With your way of thinking that god is yourself

I'd like to thank you for this opportunity
To get a few things off of my chest
And could you please do me a small favor Ye Merry Gentlemen
In this time of Season...could you give it a Rest
