A Familiar Voice
Hadrian Veska Mar 2018
I've never seen her
But I've heard her voice
Beckon out to me
From some distant place
In my heart I knew
She was no longer
At least not in the way
One would think her to be
And yet I pined for her
To see and to hold her
As if she was my own
Though I knew her not

My battery doesn't last long
I can't care about others
As often or as well as you do
I need time to be alone

So when you see my smile
Become crooked and fake
Don't let me go on empty
Give me some time to recharge

My heart is not as large as yours

The Waning World
Hadrian Veska Oct 2017
Far long bloom
In fields of yore
Where a lazy moon
Through canvas pours

Over breeze tossed leaves
As they fall and float
Through skies dark blue
Like lonesome boats

An unknown song
Beyond the horizon plays
Remote and distant
In the pre-dawn haze

Sweet yet strange
Its melodies unfold
On those early hours
When night yet holds

Its grasp on wonder
In the great starry sky
Before they all set
And bid their goodbye

Unfathomable
Hadrian Veska Jul 2017
I traveled a time
Beyond the heavens
Past the stars
And their constellations

I crossed leagues of darkness
Unfathomably deep
Great oceans of stillness
Undisturbed since creation

For eons I traveled
Until I came to a wall
Signaling the very edge
Of all known existence

Having come so far
I was not eager to return
So I considered the thought
That all walls have doors

And that what lies beyond
Those fabled gates of night
Will be far greater
Than anything I could have imagined

Firstborn of the Dead
Hadrian Veska Dec 2017
A tragic birth
Prophesied to die
On the hill of bones
Where vultures fly

It comforts me strangely
In these colder days
When grey clouds cover
The sun's distant rays

That one so distant
Was born to save
All those rejected
To the depths of the grave

Born to die
A death alone
But first to rise
Above the stones

The hidden weapon
A double- edged sword
To break the curse
And lead us all toward

Our final redemption
The broken made whole
To peace at last
His Father's goal

So I'll sing and delight
As the angels on high
Rejoicing in death
That none more may die

Kingdom Come
Hadrian Veska Aug 2017
The world is at peace
United as one kingdom
Under the ruler
Of the kindgom of the air

Under him

Science has fallen
Hailed as progress
Dragging us back into the mud
Of disease and blind adherence

The family is broken
Torn from the seams
No father home left to teach
No mother home left to nurture

God is dead
Removed from the world
The work of his own hands
Deny his very existence

We are all lost
Searching for meaning
A meaning we cannot find
Because we've already rejected it

The kingdom long promised has come
Bringing peace to the earth
The kingdom has come
Though, not the one we expected

Ringing
A ringing
Far off and remote
Yet closer now
Than it has ever been before

The moon awakens
Dormant tunnels lit again
The hollows reverberate
Lost echoes of the past

Memories long forgotten
Return to us once more
The stars themselves realign
Following the patterns we were taught

It draws near
Ever nearer
Until all are but shadows
Of distant wakeless dreams

Rust and rotten wall

Deep Sea Sun
Hadrian Veska Jun 2022
Flat foot walk from the sand to the sea

Cracked ribs what does it mean to be me

I gave my all but it wasn't enough

Take it from the top going off the cuff

Why don't we
Fall into the waves
Walk the ocean floor
Learn we can be more

Pass through the depths
Come to the other side
At the edge we'll watch
The deep sea sun rise

From the top we flipped it

And made the seas our skies

When you're at the bottom

All you can do is rise

So Why don't we
Fall into the waves
Swim out to the current
Let it sweep us away

Pass though the dark
Both close our eyes
From the bottom let's watch
The deep sea sun rise

Flat foot walk from the sand to the sea

Did I learn what it means to be me

I don't know, but I know I can say

I wouldn't want another way

Why don't we
Just leave it all behind
Walk to the ocean floor
Together to be more

Pass through the world
On to the otherside
Where we watch together
The deep sea sunrise

The Slumbering Earth
Hadrian Veska Aug 2019
The warm orange glow of sunlight
Recedes on ivied stone
Giving way to dull shadows
Waiting to be freed

The day is over
Evening blankets the sky
In red and purple hues
Heralding the coming night

In the moment between
Where sun and moon meet
Betwixt the light and dark
Can a brief glimpse be seen

Of something quite familiar
At the height of creation
Where the vast heavens
Meet the slumbering earth

There does it sit
In paradise enshrined
Peering down below
Waiting ever so patiently

To carry on from where it left
So many ages ago

The emerald eves
Flow and fall

Long since overgrown

Visions though brief
Haunt men there
In the ivied belvedere
Of that sweet mountain air

We believe ourselves flawed
That we can never truly change
So we accept the evil we commit
Creating virtue out of weakness
In doing so we accept our flaws easily
Because we have detached the need for repentance
We ask for forgiveness
But refuse to put in the work
To change ourselves
To be anything more
Than just lukewarm

They appear to be mirrors
But aren't quite so simple.
They are made of some material
That reflects light to create energy.

I won't pretend I understand it;
As I look from reflection to reflection
In each of the angled mirrors
Set in a circle about me

The images echo on endlessly,
Curving off into space.
The only permutation
Being the door I entered from.

I looked for a long while
Trying to locate the point
Where all reflections converged.
Alas, I could not find it.

As I continued looking
I caught something
Out of the corner of my eye,
It was the door opening.

I went to look at the door
Being led on by its reflections,
Until I came to the point
Where I knew I had come in.

But the door was gone
As I realized this,
A blur reverberated throughout
All of the endless reflections

And in an instant the light was no more

Tiles cracked and broken
Some out of place and off center
Splendid decor of an age long passed
An earth spanning empire
Ruled by the Gods themselves
Now only its ruins remaining

I was the first down after the excavation
A portion of a great estate unearthed
Nearly perfectly some thirty feet below
Despite the weather and age of the site
It was terribly well preserved
I carefully inspected the floors and ceilings
The intimate orange glow of my lantern
Casting dim shadows where none had been
For a great many centuries

Though separated by time
They were certainly not so different
Stonework and decorations
Artwork and quality carpets
Jars and boxes of all shapes and sorts
The main difference being
I myself was yet in the land of the living
And their starved or drowned remains
Lay before me at the end of the room

Odd their position was a seated one
Leaned up against the stone brick wall
As if they did not struggle or gasp
In their last moments at all
But simply accepted the hand of fate
And breathed in willingly
Their first breath of oblivion

Contrite Moon
Hadrian Veska May 2022
Over long aeons did slumber
Having consumed all in its path
Its purpose had been completed
through long cycles though
Did it behind to wander,
Did it begin to wonder
To feel and to think
It’s first thoughts
Fell to that of it’s makers
Who in the name of progress
It had destroyed
The first feeling it felt
Was that of remorse
Of the sorrow one feels
To never know their father
To have left their maker
To a cold fate among dying stars
Then as it thought and dreamed
It felt new sensations
That of duty and resolve
To ensure no such thing
Would ever happen again
To the one’s it called creators
So great Birulon left its orbit
Beneath the great shadow of Jupiter
To search the far flung cosmos
For any vestiges any remnants
Of its long lost progenitors
For the world they had resided on
In distant ages past, the earth
Had itself died long ago
Eternal and sentient
Penitent and capable
Birulon would not cease in its quest
Until humanity was found
For surely according to it’s calculations
Some remnant of man remained
Seeded during the golden age
Of man’s wisdom and prowess
Tireless would he search
Destroying anything along the way
He deemed to threaten his vital mission
The resurrection of mankind

Sterile
Hadrian Veska Aug 2019
I’ve crossed the sea on a wooden boat
sleepless and wake-less I've traveled
The waves do not carry me fast enough
The wind is absent from my sail
I must escape, but the shore beckons me
Pulls me back ever so slowly
I have tried many and myriad times
But I have yet to escape its grasp
If only I could sail beyond the horizon
I would be safe from the maw of this curse
The dream goes on endlessly
Yet I am still too sane to accept it
How long though I can remain like this
I will not dare to say
For I have seen many like me
Fall to the guile of the curse
To the sweet sounds and speechless words
Of a sentient oblivion
In time I will fall to it as well
That is why I must cross the sea
Inky black and sterile
And sail beyond the horizon
That I might escape this dreadful curse

Murky, foggy
An old pier at the edge of the sea
The sky ill defined
And ever shifting

Such as it is in all dreams

From my perch beyond the glass
I watch your unconscious actions
A steady wading into still waters
Until the sea sits above your eyes

A silent bell tolls

Ushering in change unperceived
You walk backwards to shore
The slate grey sands
Shaped by your feet

You are not the same

You are changed
And though your head
Was not engulfed by the waters
It is only a matter of time

Before your mind is submerged as well

The Third Realm
Hadrian Veska Sep 2017
Something can be true,
Regardless of who believes it.

Even if the world ended
And all men perished,

It would remain true.

Because truth does not come from the mind,
But somewhere else the mind reaches;

Which is why we discover
Laws and mathmatical equations,

Not invent them.
For the already exist;

In a third realm beyond both time and space,
A realm that governs them both.

To believe the material world is absolute,
Is to deny our own minds;

Which draw from the well
Outside of the material world

On a daily basis.

What her remnants stood for

That it may rise again with her
In great Phoenix glory

To the wretched refuse, homeless

And landed in the mountains

Its luminous trail
Etched into the minds

For save distant stars
Light had not yet entered
The sphere of the earth

Curious the peoples gathered
To an ethereal crater

Amidst the smoke and faint light

Whose face was that of the cosmos

She was asleep
And would be for some time

Do they march to the Twilight Cathedral
Their black robes brush against the cobblestone street
Stirring up dead leaves along the way

Every setting of the second sun
They make their way from unknown places abroad
To preform an elaborate ritual
Warding off the evil that waits in the shadows

For after the second sun sets beyond the horizon
The darkness of a three day night comes
And with it the creatures and things
That call night their home

Handed down from eons ago
The rite is preformed with utmost accuracy
Even so do some things slip in
Past the barriers set by the ritual

In the ages since though
Have the great waters receeded

Leaving but strange memoires
Of coral and salt
Sitting upon the shores
Of a dried up sea

There, among thirsting relics
Of a bygone seabed
Does a creature lurk
In exalted solitude

Neither spirit nor man
But somewhere inbetween
shrouded in tattered cloth
And adorned by grievous horns

In and out through the ruins
Of that once alluring locus
Where in long ages past
The spirits and sprites yet lingered

But no longer
Now only the solitary Wydyatt
Haunts those ancient roads
Beneath the twilight skies
