Star Gazer
I say 'ladies first' because I am a gentleman,
Not because I think ladies are weak willed or weak,
No I say 'ladies first' because I always put a lady first.
A gender of elegance and class that should be respected,
So when I see a man beat a woman,
Surely my blood boils and my fists clench,
When I see a man cut a woman down emotionally,
Surely I will start shaking in bouts of anger.
Why so?
Because most girls, most women, most daughters,
Grows up to be a mother,
And that is the hardest task a human can complete.

The pen was mightier than the sword,
For the damsel in distress was bored,
Nothing to do in her own spare time,
She found her saviour, simple rhymes.
Knights would heave and sway the blade,
Only to find the princess with a quill,
So as tales go, they would never get laid,
And she had more poetry to spill....

Thank You

Star Gazer
I drive by so many cars,
I wish you were in one of them,
But you are as far as the stars,
And I couldn't reach you even if I tried.

My heart beats a tune for you,
An orchestrated symphony of brass,
For you make me bleed red when I'm blue,
And all I am is a walking piece of glass.

So sharp and wickedly dangerous,
I could fall and break under myself,
But it was you who held me painless,
And fragile was my past self.

Your palms suffered cuts from my jagged edges,
But you never complained,
For it was your heart that fell like hedges,
Broken, cut down and torn to shreds.

Without a single complaint,
You held my thorn filled heart,
And picked at the thorns,
To make me a better person.

New Lease

As we stood face to face...
Waist-deep in our insecurities,
the years...
Would continue to
revolve around us with nonchalance.
Soothing the wounds we had traded.

The universe...
Would envelope us.
Like cosmic balm.
Healing us...
Catalysing us,
into melding together.
So we'd emerge out of the fray
as a single entity.

An entity...
Oblivious to each other's imperfections.
An entity...
Capable of discarding past discrepancies.
An entity...
Granted a new lease.
An entity...
Worthy of another breath.

Bars

I've only got one bar
on my phone and there's only
one more between here and home.
Ten dollars in my pocket may as well
be a thousand. Like a penny
in the fusebox, I could make it last
until the lights go out. There's a cowboy
band playing. A wooden Indian
by the door. I don't think he listens
to their stories anymore. He's quiet
on the subject. He's quite an object
of curiosity. Instead of two-stepping
all night long, maybe I should take
that Indian home. Use the last bar
to call Coleen. Tell her to put a ***
of cowboy coffee on. We'll tell stories
of our own. Sing songs in the old way
about better days when we were young.

I am a solitary thought
toiling
to anchor down the heart
struggling
to keep
all sails in place
compass intact
and so I brace
as wind and current
take your side
slanting the heart
Learning to swim, sometimes against the tide.
