chisel another poem
from the rock of silence

fill a graveyard
full of reminders

keep singing poet

This is a feeble answer
each prisoner prisons us all
I cannot be who anyone else
wants me to be
so write your poetry

Happiness is oh! so simple
finding the wine bottle
- one glass short of empty

consternation is
your lost wine glass
and! it must be here somewhere

Emily Von Shultz
Every time I look in the mirror,
I can see a monster in the reflection in the pupil of my eye.
He’s keeping me locked in the closet,
and he’s telling me not to cry.
He’s cutting up my arms and pouring alcohol on them,
he’s telling me to hide.
He’s burning down the house he built
with his family still inside.
I realize that he isn't just in my eyes,
though to the outside world,
he vanished without a trace.
I am the spitting image of him,
and this is why I hate my face.

I have sat around your fire
all winter
and I was there the day spring
hung fragile in the air
Now summer plays shadows
across our meadow
while the sky gives up her rain

each word falls heavy today
reluctant to fly
they hide between each breath
unwilling to participate
so a stick and carrot
that tried and tested method
squeezes them into a corner

even anonymous
you sing like a poet
