Poison
Daisy Richardson Nov 2014
There is construction going on on the street adjacent to mine
they are drilling holes to make room for the pipe line
and every time they do, the ground shakes
and every time they do, it overwhelms me with heart ache

Because humans are fixing something that was never broken
Earth was beautiful and now it feels unspoken
in the way that the tall trees
turned into an hq for a company
rivers that got stopped with dams
but humans dont seem to give a ****

We are destroying something that was once so beautiful
and now it’s beauty has gone empty
because something that was once wonderful
was torn down so we could have a shopping spree

To us, the damage being done has become irrelevant
destroying forests and mountains
and we don’t even seem to be hesitant

The number in our bank account has become more important
than the quality of our air
and the only thing we can count
is how close we are to being a millionaire

We should be counting the days we have left
before we become bereft
of living on our one true home
and leave Earth all alone
with the damage we have done.
Sorry guys, there’s no rerun
of this episode we call human evolution
and oh how I wish there was a simple solution
to limit this endless pollution
that we have caused because this is a right in our constitution

Where are the earths rights?
Is it really that hard to be polite
to something that works for us all day and night?
if only we were as bright
as the flash from our phone light
when we’re taking pictures to remember the memories
because there’s no remedy
for humans

We are a poison that does not have a cure
and all that our poor Earth can do
is try to stay strong while we make the blueprint for our next venue
