we sat up in your bed later that night
sharing a cigarette
after we had just got done *******

we left the window open
and the sound of the outside world
poured in
but it was just us there
holding each other as the rose i had picked for you
watched us silently from your bedside table

it remembered that night

By now I fall a victim to your eyes,
And pavement bound might flowers grow for thee,
Permits with roots that carve concrete disguise.
Permeating breath enclosed in apathy.

A burning fire that night your eyes beheld,
And flames reflect as tears consumed by ash
That builds into the castle which you dwell.
Beginning to end, your choices made rash.

But now a rose be found in bed of stones,
And locus swarm but shed not any tear.
To rest I lay and burn a frame of bones.
A threnody be sung for deaf to hear.

And when you learn to dance in moonlight sky,
All but pirouettes of you are memory

a silent dancer’s shadow
casts down upon unfamiliar pavement
almost as if she had no idea I was standing right there
in front of her
that wet february evening
to tell her my heart is with someone else
