Silhouettes across the Moon
A handful of sand

choose the one who you will follow
sell your will to them forever
different tunes
but all the pipers
lead us into the same river

this experiment was done
not so very long ago
it showed us the way that we
do whatever we are told

they believed they gave him shocks
until he made no more sound
even those who walked away
did not try to shut it down

I think that it goes to show
who we really are inside
not just "them" but all of us
who pretend we could decide

we want to believe that we
have some different kind of brain

I built a fortress for my soul
a place where no one else can go
to keep me safe from everyone
a place where I can be alone

but now that no one else is here
I am alone with all my fear
and in my fortress where I hide
there is a monster
deep inside

I don't know if I will be wealthy or broke

if I will be with someone else or alone

but I can look into the future and say

one day I will look back and envy today


tomorrow there's no telling where I will be

and that's how I know that I owe it to me

to sometimes be still

take a moment to feel

I move forward one step at a time

If someone saw in four dimensions
I wonder what they would see

But a tree

Branching back mother to mother
Back to when we became humans
Where our branch joins with the others

Would they see not just our timeline
But those of the molecules
Which branching back away from us
Return to plants and animals

And if they looked far back enough
Would they see us all join as one
Woven upon the helix Earth
Which wraps around the spiral Sun

we are an infinite                regress
    of reflections and           refractions
    of actions and         reactions
         complex       fractions
of interference     patterns

intricately intersecting    connections      
   branching on   tracks
through the     confusing   profusion       
of this soothing     illusion   we create      
            of reality     being a   place         
tessellating in   parallel  space   
               like an  abstract fractal  
in an interdimensional tesseract
reflecting back on itself forever

my mind is a twisted frame
I do not know what to say
all the                    feelings
kept                       inside
are too          tangled
to       transcribe
  undending
    place with        no  
           escape             I do not         
   understand        its shape  
will this illusion disappear
  if my confusion becomes clear?

Some say that freedom is
Wild emotion
Animal lust
Running through the forest
With no shoes
No words
Then none who is free
Can say what freedom is

Some say that freedom is
Language
Logic
Rising above emotions
On the wings of the mind
Then none who is free
Knows what freedom feels like

I say that freedom is
The ability to choose
Between these states of mind
At will
Or even
To combine them

Only then can we truly understand
Freedom
Only then will our whole soul be

And know what it feels like to
Fly

It fills us all with so much hope and fear

It watches us, this thing without a face
A million faces, frightful chimaera
Divides us by our age, our ***, our race
As if that could make the picture clearer

Now that our ghosts are made of ones and aughts
Do we remember who we were before
We gave the aether all our half baked thoughts
The ghosts that we will be remembered for

I do not know who or what else
but our god is a god of death
who built us all to stumble
built the Universe itself to crumble

from our viewpoint
we who perceive time
as a moving arrow

ours is a god of falling dice
of falling sand
of falling sparrows

the children of entropy
the stones and trees
the Moon
the sea
the air in every breath
and even we ourselves are born of death

we fear for everything we are
in fear we walk
as fallen stars

tremble before the night beyond
tremble before the face of god

Gold shines the dragon
It is made of fire
And where it burns
The velvet veil of night
These are the stars

reminisce on this listlessness

not good enough

I'm not qualified to judge

that is just another layer of denial

someone to shame

an echo chamber full of hate
a broken mirror in a frame

I guess I am afraid
that if I treat myself
with more respect
the mob will turn on me
with one voice

"HOW DARE YOU FORGIVE YOURSELF?"

as if they care about me

they must have bigger fish to fry
some people set the world on fire
some people commit genocide

so what would really happen
if one day I just stopped judging me
telling me I'm too this, too that, not good enough
and let me be

and build a real alliance with myself
built on trust
built on love

don't need to be
better than me

I am drawn to wander
