there is so much violence
it happens every day
voices loudly silenced
no one knows what to say

peace follows me like the Moon
and draws my eyes her way
the world screams in the face of doom
I look the other way

If just for a moment
We could all just stop
And breathe
And let the world go on

We could all be still
Our silence would
Be like a love song

I wonder who is watching us
and where
and with what eyes

shimmering like an oasis
in the desert of the sky

whispering into the darkness
a strange symphony of light

trembling with sound and fury
in the silence of the night

You sing your eerie songs beneath the sea
I wish we understood you on the shore
I weep to hear such haunting melodies
I weep for what my world has done to yours

I wonder if you know what we have done
I hope that we at least can let you live
I wish that I could learn to sing your songs
To say thank you and ask you to forgive

but then I think back with my heart
remember how it really was

I was confused and insecure

I saw enemies everywhere

if I had never earned my scars

change something
if I could go back

if I had made a different choice

and if I had been wiser
maybe then I would have never failed

or gained the courage that can only come
from fighting tooth and nail

if I had made no such mistake
how different my life would be

and though I still get caught up in

or I wish I had more time
or I wish I still looked like that

I guess I'm grateful for
all those mistakes that made me who I am

and just as grateful that
I do not have to be so young again

the face of god
stares through the ruins

sparrows and crows
what do they know?

and through their eyes
what do they see

when they fly through the sky
like we do in our dreams?

When I look at my species
Who we are, what we have done
I wonder if I love humans
Just because I am one

Maybe one day they'll come to us

If there are spirits
What are they made of

birds are bringing twigs
on brightly colored wings

so much joy
if it had been
forever spring?

I walked out in the sunshine yesterday
On my way I passed by a cherry tree
Delicate flowers had begun to bloom
I felt such joy I laughed aloud with glee

Somewhere the winter is still long and cold
Somewhere there are no flowers on the trees
But I am in a place where it is warm
And at long last spring has begun for me

We understand stars
