Blooming soft and delicate
Earth kissing the sky

Uprooted
Drifting, flying without fear
A vine in the wind

Shining Sun
Chases me out of my bed
In the cool morning

Some paths are made by force
Suddenly
Carved into the ground
Branded on the world

Some paths are made softly
One day at a time
A memory of ten thousand footsteps following
The path of least resistance

What if you felt no more shame

The sky is always full of stars

I found a monster in the dark
Deep in my mind, my strangest part
I banished it, it would not go
It sank its teeth into my soul

Until I had no strength to fight
Then for a while it took the reins
All I knew was pleasure and pain

But one bright day we saw the light
Through our two eyes, monster and I
We joined together, strong, allied
No more battles, we both decide

There is an ocean deep and dark and vast
Upon our sunny island grows one tree
As each new branch emerges from the last
The song of life becomes a symphony

We gaze out longingly across the deep
But there is only so far we can go
What secrets might that dark horizon keep
Our island is the only home we know

We look out on the waves along the shore
Our messengers sail out into the sea
And although we have found islands galore
We still have yet to find another tree

We wonder as we sing into the dark
If we will find an answering chorus
And if beyond the sea when we embark
We will find not one tree but a forest

Though we speak our different words
Though we wage our different wars
We all live on the same world
We all follow the same star

On the surface we are violent
Sound and fury, fife and drum
From the darkness we are silent
From the darkness we are one

Trembling
I lift my burned fingertips
Once more to the flame

Will our descendants live on Earth
Or will they live in domes on Mars
Or by Europa's icy surf
Or in the dark beyond the stars

We act as if we have no say
We talk as if we have no voice
But we who live on Earth today
We are the ones who make this choice

Someone else
To get approval
They aren't approving of you
They are approving of
Someone else

But if even one person
Truly accepts you
For who you are

Then when you are with that person
You can be free

Like a swan

Beautiful
Delicate
Like a cherry tree in bloom

Serene
Like the sea

Sometimes I wake up
And I forget where I am
It almost doesn't matter anymore
I am always where I am

Every time I think
That I've run out of things to say
I see something that makes me
View life a whole new way

Then my mind is full of words
I want to tell you all
About this new idea
Which has so lit up my soul

Even if nobody
Understands your words
I am glad that you chose them

The full Moon
Is a mirror in which the
Earth can see her soul

Filling with hope
Like the spring tomorrow
When the rain
Washes away my sorrow

Peace fills my wings
And the fear disappears

There are some people
Who really seem evil
But I still love them
Because they are still people

Words are like threads
Pulling our heartstrings
And drawing our thoughts
Lifting us higher
Like marionettes

A Gordian knot
Whole worlds bound up
In what people have said

Arrows pulled taut
Only a sentence
Until it is read

Weaving bright tapestries

Thousand doves
Quiet and serene and still
Suddenly take flight

My journey is not over
But I have reached the top of the mountain
Where I may sleep one night

I almost forgot that feeling
When I felt like I could sing
I felt the starlight in my soul
Was one with everything

And now that I am free again
I am remembering
I move with joy
On this blue world
Who gave me back my wings

I found my soul
Hidden in the forest
Right where I left it
The quiet gentle trees
Kept it safe for me

The storm has washed away
And the flowers
Open their trembling hearts
To the Sun

There may be someone who is hard and cruel
But their one virtue is a brilliant mind
And also there may be a total fool
Whose only virtue is that they are kind

There may be somebody who lacks mercy
Their virtue is that they have won a war
And someone wrapped up in controversy
Whose virtue is that they know who they are

Our history is full of crooks and churls
Who did the only great deed that they could
You may have just one thing to give the world
You only need one virtue to be good

Soft sunlight sweetens the fruit
Stirs the leaves and makes them shiver
Million little reaching roots
Slowly seek the hidden river

For some people
Tolerance is a mask
But you can still see the fear
In their eyes

Every time I trip and fall
Or do a really stupid thing
Over my shoulder I can feel
The shadow of the angel's wing

I will not sharpen my teeth
To blend in with wolves
Because once in a blue Moon
I bite my own tongue

Good to have might, good to be bright
But being nice is better yet
For to be nice is always right
A thing you never shall regret

And it is wise to share your heart
To tell the truth, to speak your mind
Be humble, be honest, be smart,
Be brave, but most of all
Be kind

Kaleidoscope

The Queen of trees
Wears a crown of flowers
Lush and soft and sensuous
Cradling the Moon pale and full
Against the deep black sky

All these lights
Shining different colors bright
Cast the same shadow

Sometimes it is brave
To fly away
Sometimes it is brave
To stay

Apple tree
Through the sweet fountains of blooms
I could see our Moon

If I went to heaven
I would believe
It was a dream

words have feelings hidden within
they can crash and clang like cymbals
glitter and twinkle like crystals
tingle and prickle like thistles
whisper and hiss like the wind

There once were dragons
A flaming sword
Fell from the sky

There once were dragons
They fell to the cold
The long night

There once were dragons
And to this day
Their children fly

Recognized
Beneath their feathers

Nevermore

I saw a rainbow
Just before sunset
So high
If it were whole
It would have crossed the sky
It was green
Yellow and orange
Red
Red and red

One day
The Sun will fill the sky
With its blazing
Diamond heart
