By the time the fireman got there
the blaze at Cherry Orchard raged
and as they looked at the inferno
they knew not many would be saved
The orphans on the second floor were screaming
as the fireman tried to quench the blaze
some pulled out blankets
to see how many they could save
They lined up against the walls
with blankets held so taut
whilst their brave colleagues
with fire biting they fought
Then from the windows the children began to jump
it was catch, splat, catch, splat, the poor little things
it was a most terrible sight to behold
the tragedy a box of matches can bring
The tragedy at Cherry Orchard
yes it was a tragic affair
and me being a witness
well, I wish I was never there
