Everybody's fading
Becoming someone else
Recklessly escaping
A lie within itself
Smoke is curling higher
Than they can ever go
Not that it would matter
They clearly never know
i remember walking
Before we couldn't see
Picking up the pieces
Dividing them in three
Never mind confusion
We are not the same
Death becomes illusion
When life is made a game
i cannot escape it
So what am i to do
i continue onward
In memory of you
And so the world will spin inside a mind it never knew
To fill it up with earth and bone and even me and you
The speed of light above it all has noted every name
And used the dust of starry space as ink it wants to lay
I see the budding fingertips let go their feather pens
And rest upon the very heads of fever stricken men
The rain has come in many forms to offer some reprieve
But even now can only reach the ones who do not leave
The backs of those who walk away have turned into the mud
A looser kind of figurine devoid of human blood

And I awoke to a thought-
a particular trance
of books burning and a bishop in hand-
I dreamed, I did
perchance of love,
of creaking snow globes shattering from above.

And a mantle lit
a fire blazing-
I'll fill this void with my gazing.
No one asked your opinions so why do you speak?
A voice so small
A voice so weak
Thrown to the floor with the shattered glass

Are you free now?
Free alas?

I'm doubting this quietly,
Such a sight so sightly-
Enrapture my hands and
poison my plans,
But you'll never win
while you're waiting to begin.

The game is starting dear
now come,
gather your fears-
Kiss them goodbye, send them afloat
they're bringing you down,
your passions they choke.

So breathe in this warm air of delight
Please notice the beauty of the night-
Resplendent stars will relume your way,
and carry you through
the haze of a day.
you
sometimes i think i should have been
mist so i could rest gently against
your skin, but i'm a tidal wave
and you don't want to be pulled in

the way the moon hits the water
which is a lot like how these
feelings keep hitting me, slowly
they come and slowly they go

the ocean parts us to where
we are on different continents,
but we are two hearts as one
forced apart by harsh waters
and the thoughts that we stay
up way to late thinking about

like last night with my feet
dangling off the dock above
the pond,  the goosebumps on
my skin where your warmth
should be, it was then i realized
how gone you really were

laying out under the stars
where the crickets play their
symphonic sounds, i thought
i saw you so i blinked and then
pinched myself, convinced it
must have been a silly little dream

that dock by the pond is
now where we sit with our feet
dangling above the water
and when the goosebumps come
back, you are there to warm me

you came back to me

(a.f)
You never realize
how alone you truly are
until its 3 am
and your home is silent,
the music is still playing
but you don't hear the words,
your seeing everything
but nothing,
and you want to speak
but you can't find your voice.

If you pay attention to the flowers,
the blooms in the hollows of your cheeks,
buds hanging from your jawbone,
bowing to a somber reflection,
Overlook the wilted edges
and the mud above the roots,
perhaps the petals won't fall.

If you sing for the meadow
lush in your temples
and between your eyes,
green with the vibrant flora,
light will fall over your eyes
and the growth in the soil
will be alive with allure.

Continents of
the flexing spine,
shifting behind the lungs.
A forest spanning dips and curves
from shoulder to hip,
the sway of your midriff
under the weight of
mountain peaks
and the valleys between.

Your own eyes,
holders of the grandeur
of what is molded around the bones.
You must prune the roses
with love of your warm garden
and the birds with flock
to your trees.

I know when to quit.
late summer unclenched
for us, thrusts
of pixie-stick upshot,
your perfume
expands my chest,
thunderstick love,

spines and ribs
don’t do it justice
you raptured me
both ways to sunday
built me up to shatter jaws
car windows me
bar stool battered
you my perfect carpenter
smile with wooden teeth
you made them yourself
so stain me the color of
cherry trees
and unbliss my empty spine.

One forgets that they are not an ocean.
That they cannot break against the rocks
and crash violently into the shore.
We forget we are but cells,
fused together by the straining of our voices,
and the laughter in the sunshine.
We are not divided as oceans are,
separated by a mass of land, disconnected
as the Pacific
and the Dead Sea.
We are joined by the lyrics of a classic ballad
and the motions in healing dance.
Our bodies are not liquid,
synchronous with the moon,
the ebb and flow of our rising and falling chests.

We forget that the stitching in our skin has healed over,
clinging to the soft waters of the night-time tides.
Sable skies threaten the collapse
of our feeble house of sticks
climbing to the roof
shaking our fists to whatever slumbers
in the heavens,
begging to be as a stone
when the tropical storms
blow us down
and the ocean drags us by the hair
back to the fussing horizon.

One cannot drift through the human condition,
desire and impulse,
the life-long battle
to feel not as an expanse of water
but as a sturdy reminder
of atoms to cells to organelles,
as a mark on the spotted skies,
a part in the sea where we cross over into
the realm of existing
and feeling,
to become what we are
both in physical form
and in spirit.

We are flesh and we are soulful.
We are real and deserve to stand
feet planted
in the mud
and let the hurricanes wash us over.
We deserve to feel whole
and wanted.
Craved and forgiven.
We deserve to feel real.
