The Glory of Gotham
DJ Verona Feb 2014
Soaring tower, representing
All those lost and still lamenting
Shining beacon, glimmers bright
Visible across the night.

Born from ashes long since vanished
Feeds a city’s skyline famished
Loss of twins is not forgotten
But We the People cannot stop
In our endeavor to revive them
No more time for crying beside them!
Reflecting pools have filled with tears
Of agony throughout the years.

From high above we can look proudly
Up to Heaven, screaming loudly
“Our freedom has been fixed!”
To seventeen hundred and seventy-six.
When they placed the spire on top of One World Trade Center in May 2013, I felt inspired to write. For twelve years, the skyline of Manhattan lacked symbolism downtown. I remember 9/11 vividly, but the hardest thing, for me at least, was driving into the city and not being able to see those glorious buildings towering over New York City. This poem is dedicated to all those that lost their lives on 9/11/01

i am the astronomer
gazing on the stars
here to tell of
dreams beyond
from galaxies afar

you are but the
master thinker
champion of dreams
you can tell me of the
FUTURE
no matter how it seems

together through the crystal ball
let's seek the knowledge of it all

Silver ripples
Crinkle on the lake
Grip the paddles
Echo in the waves

Seattle rains
Fall hard today
But sunlight always
Slips beside the grey

Shine down
Through the clouds and funeral shrouds
Comfort us
Mortal beings on the ground

From the highest peaks
Come crashing through
Silver marble
Dive deep into the blue
For my dear cousin, who passed away from colon cancer a few weeks ago

Dream.

To look inside
And find
What lies beneath the surface.
For it is not our armor that defines us
But the passion and magnificence that,
In the right light,
Makes who we are
An illusion
To be contorted and confused
Until we all identify who we ought to be
As followers of a common goal:
Finding one’s destiny.

Dream,
Dream,
Always dream.

How It Ends
DJ Verona Mar 2014
When you feel your heart beat through your chest,
I can't possibly mean anything good.

Either you've consumed far too much
(Food, Alcohol, Opiates, Helium, Ecstasy)
Or you've dabbled too far in love.

I, myself, cannot feel the difference
I am balancing on the fencepost.
My mind wishes that I could be done
But my body aches for you the most.

There is a part of me that wishes
I never even met you at all
I cannot face reality, it melts
My heart is too weak for the withdrawal

Why do you continue to torment me?
Is there some mental trick you wish to play?
I try to occupy myself with other things
But I think about you every day.

I've seen the hard times come by
And I think I know enough

I'm ready to be done with you

I've fallen out of love.

For long enough I stood there waiting
The consequences for us dating
But as you know I’d wait forever
Your love is my whole life’s endeavor

Do you remember when we met?
A moment I cannot forget
You drew me in with charm and sweetness
Surely how one should impress

I called you and we met at Cly’s
All dressed in white from head to thighs
And there you kissed me on my lips
I touched you with my finger tips

We walked back over to my dorm
Took over Townsend like a storm
Then I woke up, sun shone brightly
I kissed and tickled you so lightly

And saw that gorgeous smile gleam
I wondered what it all could mean
Maybe, that you were the one?
Our journey had only just begun

But then, from nowhere, stroke of fate
I asked you, “Barndance, be my date?”
You answered back, to my displeasure
“Him and I, we’re back together”

Crushed, disheartened, thoughts unclear
Body shifting rage in gear
We can only be good friends?
I guess it’s where the story ends

Except it can’t, my heart’s the same
I’ll keep on playing your sick game
Cause I will wait, I’ll wait for you
‘Til once again this dream comes true

I’ll take your body close to mine
Kiss you sweetly all the time
Passions wild, senses numbed
I’ll pray that morning never comes

But when the sun should slowly rise
I’ll gaze into your hazel eyes
And if I stare for long enough?
Your eyes will open, full of love.
i loved you so much...i'll think about you forever

Man Beyond the Moon
DJ Verona Feb 2014
Take me far away—
A place that's far beyond horizons.
Past the breeze of seven seas,
Above the highest mountains.

Let me breathe the cold of heaven
Drifting out in space.
Let me feel firsthand the rays
Of sunshine on my face.

And think of all that ever was—
The bane of our existence.
Grasp the impact of it all,
While gazing from a distance.

It takes an isolated man
Who seems to be so lonely,
To understand what makes the world
Vibrant, alive, and homely.

I float into the harbor on my skiff
There’s calmness on the water, and it’s clear
I leave no wake behind me as I drift
This vessel ventured safely to the pier

My sails are beaten from relentless shear
The gales howled tension through my sheets
And though the tempest rocked me as I steered
The dream of you has guided me to peace

For you are sunshine rising in the East
You are the lighthouse flashing on the shore
I followed you to haven through the seas
You saved me from the chaos of the storm

I navigate to find what lacks inside
And in your waters doubts are cast aside
