No more pickled
beets
miracle whip
smoked oysters
squeeze cheese
needed
he’s not here
to
eat it.
Written in 2005.These were foods   only he loved....

your goose
in the oven
made the skin crispy
just like you insisted
the orange sauce
bubbles furiously
as the wild rice simmers
and the salad
won't get anymore tossed
while you serve
the chilled wine
ignore
those pitiful cries
from the poultry-less pup
even if the pudding’s
a bust
there’s no danger
of being underfed.
When I lived  with my parents  and daughter for a few years  after my husband's death , I cooked  a traditional several course  Sunday  dinner  almost  every week.

ripples
elegantly shielded
every room
it ever graced
from the sun’s starkest rays
bedrooms
to living room
every place
Love ever lived
and shade was  desired.
A beautiful  wide panel of European  curtains   my husband and I  bought from a  neighbor  for  a ridiculously small amount   back in the mid 80's .We took it across oceans and made it work in so many of our homes.Over the past  five  years   it no longer fits anywhere   , all  the windows  I live  with  are  smaller   and shorter, so sadly , it remains in storage.

Pearls
Crystals
Precious stones
or even just
paste pretenders
   threaded through
polished perfection
sunlight kept hostage
mirrored moon glow
tiny shiny planets draw
foreign bodies into orbits
while blinking stars
frame infinity
on fragile human canvas
spilling faceted
rainbows
upon even  dullest of
days
Yes, this  is  a girly thing.Talking about  jewelry< sighs at  self). That was written  at least  five years before my daughter Stefanie Meade  started making hers.I get these flights of fancy   it seems...

I think the dust bunnies
hate me
and play their evil games
in my cozy home
Vengeance is coming
wee gray ones,
a maniacal laugh
escapes from my face
as the ******* hose of doom
descends
upon their kingdom.
Take that  dirt !

Modest beauties
whose creamily dabbed
orange, pink
and
yellow blossoms
despite tender care
rendered
died this spring
a speckled lizard
lurks inside
their empty talavera ***
next to the cheap blue
sun umbrella
that blows over
with every breeze.
Roses my daughter  tended in our  Houston  'burbs  garden. We  dealt with our share of  plant deaths  .

Who shows up
no matter when
to help
anyone in need
precariously perched
clementines
are a danger
she clearly
foresees
this  noble hound
lies dreamily by
spotty snout
twitching
mesmerized by
sweet citrus treats
aching for deliverance
Written  in 2005  back when our   beagle -basset  Sophie  ( who turns 13 yo  next month)  ,  loved tangerines  like crazy. We had a  crate of them stacked in a fruit bowl once   and  she always laid facing that  bowl  .Her tummy can no longer handle  them anymore, poor girl.
