I, round the brae of Howth in chalky light,
Lamented my lot more spent in sport than play.
There, land appeared disinterested and sight
Was a teary well.  Cold was the shivering day,
And my frame, a ghost of shadow, was erased,
It receded like the fog.  Just then, overhead
I saw brave birds engaged, a raptor traced
A mourning dove’s faltering flight, how it fed
Its own shining sense of purpose, for not
Wanton sport or lordly state do falcons
So hunt, nor did the bird in peril belabour
His reason, rather he tried avoiding those talons.
A question answered itself within my breadth,
Survival resides in a pageantry of death.
She
The yellow sky
The blue sea
People on the beach
Wearing their hearts on their sleeves.
Orange flames
Green trees
Dancing with winds
On a moonlit street.
Mocha skin
Of the beauty she
Looks like a
Midsummer's dream.
Red horizon
Astounded she
Lays on back
Absorbing the energy.
Pink lips
Brazen feet
Talking hands
Aura of perfectivity.

we lie, tangled.
her body and mine.
motionless, fingertips
to skin.

the voice inside my head
no longer speaks

weary of missing just one word.
or worse, breaking the silence.

it's truly perfect.

flashback

she called for the first time in a few months.

"Hi." She said.
"Hey, what's up?" I ask.
"Just got off work, wanna come over?"
"Sure."

flash-forward

she knew exactly what I would say
and it always ends the same.

the thought of her, replacing what
some call sleep, had almost rested.
now, here i am.. too late or too
early into the morning,
thinking of her and writing
to ease my trembling hand.

winter is the loneliest season

because with every day
the fog of my breath becomes clearer
-a reminder that i have no one to share it with-

and every day
my hands grow colder
-a reminder that i have no one to hold them-

and every day
becomes more beautiful
-a reminder that i have no one to appreciate it with.
Underwater they quickly become fish,
she likes it that way, he concedes her every wish,
"An eel, aren't you?" raunchily she pretends astonishment,
big fish with an avid mouth she is, he knows so well.
