Your smile is contagious
Adam Long Nov 2016
You smiled today and that's awesome,
You smiled today, you feel fine.
You smiled today and I love that,
That smile of yours, is what has caused mine.

untitled sonnet 1
Adam Long Nov 2016
Have you ever felt your body is a cage?
And that the world is your prison?
That from the rising of your age
Your life's value has not once risen?
Fighting thought, resisting existing's cage
And ascertain your ambitions becomes moral outrage
So to keep yourself safe you keep your words from the page
And declare yourself nothing, so as to act nothing on the stage
If this is true for you, then I pity thee
Much as I solipsistically feel pity for me
buti mean this not condescendingly
I mean it sympathetically, perhaps more empathetically
For I too have felt the same, all the time somehow
But shift from it, with tenacity, and free yourself now.
This is my first attempt using the petrarchan form, ofcourse I have varied the rhyme sceme but stuck to the octave and sestet, and the couplet on the end, lemme know what you think guys

just a bit of a splurge
Adam Long Jul 2016
we live in the time space
of love and hate
no living hting can escape
space or times gate
nor the expanding legs
of love and hates gait

myself included
both temporal and emotional
from neither can i run
for theories are non traditional

love and hate are feelings
created by a mind
time and space, really are
just feelings, created by a mind

and so defying the confines
of quantifiable existence
is true humanity
prevailing at existence

i both love and hate
love and hate, have no time
for space and time
time we focused on theories
existing only in our minds
Adam Long May 2016
Its kind of bland
And my words aren't great
But this poem says
How much I appreciate

The chance to have met
Such a brilliant woman.
Mind brighter than supernova
And a might hot human.

Sharp tongue
And even sharper wits
And not to mention
Your magnificent quips.

Eyes alluring,
And Smile a treat
One the Best people I've ever
Had the honour to meet.
A college friend of mine, she will never see it but that's not the point
Adam Long May 2016
I'm a professional procrastinator
its all about...ill tell you later
Adam Long May 2016
I glance up looking for answers
But all I see is the sky
I look down and see the ground
I keep on wondering why

I'm here again
Struggling the same
Trying to find answers
Is making me insane

But to give up the quest
Is the only way to fail
Stick with insanity
Know one day, I will prevail

I will write dreams
And see them come true
I will earn my right
To be in the deep blue

Not the sea
I mean the sky
The ocean keeps me a float
But me, I wan to fly

I promise I will
Not you.
I promise me
For all my struggles
Success is the only thing I see

Laid out ahead
Are nothing but clouds
Some are grey
Some, fluffy white shrouds

Ill go through them all
Until there's none left
Until I do that
I will never rest
Never Give Up

Don't Delete Your Chances
Adam Long May 2016
Type,
Delete.
Type,
Repeat.

Thousands of words;
All with meaning
Lose their worth
Due to easy deleting.

A joke and a smile
Are ephemeral things,
Also eaiser than admitting
We are living, feeling, human beings.

Hiding affection
Displaying only direction
Forward thinking
No time for honest correction.

Fear and pride
Are one and the same,
Both are damaging
Make you act insane,

Cause you to display only lies
Showing how messed up inside
The person you are, is.
The taste of bitter love
You fight to resist.

So next time you write
The next time you feel
Make sure to share
Only what's real,

Or risk losing the truth
Over the fake
That is not a chance
Anyone should take.

Forces.
Adam Long May 2016
I love the term 'wildfire'
open for interpretation.
like fire has a desire,
or will for manipulation.

fire is a FORCE
not a wild beast
you can not coerce
it will only feast

and when the food depletes
its power and life too
until ignition repeats
causing need for fiery food

this is hard to grasp
as man desires,
no, requires
control for us to last

for something to be uncontrolled
leaves the possibility
of tales to be told
of human death and misery

its laughable to think
the lighting at out tips
takes time to think
of where in life it sits

we don't control forces
we work around them.
we control being like dogs and horses
for their eyes have minds behind them.

a force is not controlled
A beast only appeased
But mess with these things old
And soon you last breath, will be breathed.
Adam Long May 2016
Your honest it shines,
Your truthfulness it glows
Immensely bright, terrifyingly white
Emitting the pains you've known.

Such honest truth
Is hard to find
And when its found
It brings feelings most unkind

The mask it is proffered
The acting accepted more.
For cries of truth
Make battles into war.

Sad but true
Fakery is required,
Its not the real deal
but is greatly desired.

For misery is madness
And madness is contagious
Don't pass on your madness
Save others, from your mindset, most dangerous.

The Tree's, They Dance
Adam Long May 2016
Going outside just to wander
Walking round the world about
The wind is blowing
In an apparent shout

The trees they sway
This way and that
Moving with the wind
Like some foreign dance

The movements are magic
And the noise is their song
The trees are alive
Of this I'm not wrong

Even when the leaves are gone
The trees still dance
And sing their song

A gentle hush is what they make
A moving sound
And breath it takes

The branches are moving
Every which way
Their location is one
But they enjoy the restraints

For they know
That where they are
Is where they should be
And their movement
Is of the most beautiful simplicity.

Shooting Love
Adam Long May 2016
Brooding, thinking, lost in thought
Would things be better if I bit my tongue
It might have hurt then, but maybe less now
But at least the weight on my chest is no longer a tonne

Instead of my tongue
It was the bullet I bit
Piped up, spoke, fired my words
I was either firing blanks, or just didn't hit

But shooting is fun,
It's a popular hobby
I can blame the target
When my aim is just shoddy

But I've still got ammunition
And I'm gonna make it my mission

To be a better shot
I'll use metaphorical firearms
Show the world what I've got,
And what I can get
When the sights of my heart and mind
Are perfectly aligned

Cupid keep your bow and arrow
I've got guns,
Loves my ammo.

Who is happier?
Adam Long May 2016
The preachers are speaking
Of how all will be fine
If you hear the speeches
Of those so Devine

Follow their rules
Their judgements and rulings
Don't be your own person
It's yourself your fooling

We promise the world
If you just be a good number
Just Do as we say
So as to enjoy your final slumber

So the believers are free
But only after death
You must follow their rules
But where is freedom till then?

Two lovers can't be
For they shouldn't
In the eyes of he

Don't say what you think
For only the divine one
Can know everything

The atheists are free
In the living realm
But who doesn't wonder
What If there's really a hell

But even if it exists
Our lives are defined
By the memories we make
In this current time

Without godly restraints
We make our own choices
We stand up in crowds
And people listen to our voices

We pride ourselves
On acts of individuality
But don't get me wrong
We still understand morality

So I riddle you this
Who is happiest
The religious or the atheist

A Quote of Mine
Adam Long May 2016
Do you agree that writing is cathartic
A needed release
That stops ones mind from feeling sick

A drug in  a sense
But with few downsides
The biggest drop being
A potential pain to your pride

But if is release you seek
Then care not
Of what others think
Your work is perfect
And is worth reading

It may not travel round the world
It might never even leave your sight
But I know this for sure
The moment you let it leave your mind
you did something right

You helped yourself
To internal peace
You freed your self from mental torment
And for a time the pain will cease

That's why I write
Knowing it helps me sleep at night

And though I care for people's opinions
I'd rather hear criticism
Than keep bottling up
My pen paper mannerisms

I'm finished now
My message wrote
It's not mine any more
Now it's just a quote

Self assessing Normality
Adam Long May 2016
Self assessments are horrible things
Listing the best and worst that you bring
To any given situation or team
It's hard to say what you really mean
Without letting the best sound to good
Or the worst to bad
Just looking for some middle ground
Cause halfway is safe
& is where most people are
So balance your self and
Never go too far
Below or above
The average hub bub

we are we individually
Adam Long May 2016
My words are mine
Your ears are yours
You can use interpretation
To help point out my flaws

But floors can but stood on
In the same way dreams can
So don't stand on people's surfaces
Unless you can withstand

The pain of critique
Or the weight of opinions
I'm not saying don't think
Just consider people's demons

RED
Adam Long May 2016
RED
Anger the red
Fury the blind
Your not yourself when
Rage rules your mind.

Being calm and collected
In some ways are worse,
It means there's no excuse
For your harsh minded words.

You think words are nothing
and pain is excessive
But pain goes away
Yet words need repressing

Pain is a sensation controlled by nerve endings
Words cut much deeper
And leave you suspending
Bleeding from your soul
With hurt never ending.

Balancing Light and Dark
Adam Long May 2016
My mind electrifies a bulb,
Which becomes, shrouded in dark
My mind a vast cavern
Or an empty Noah’s ark

Illumination reveals, less
Than one would hope.
Further towards the edge
The light dares go.
But light must know
It will never, out run, the shadow.

Though there shall forever be dark
That’s no reason not to lark.
Bask in the light
See, for all the pitch
The dark does not see the night
It hides and seeks yet never finds
Its lurks in the alleys
And the cracks of minds.

It cowers.
Yet, produces cowardice.
So light bulb in my mind
Shine brightly so the dark might find
A place it will never reside.
Adam Long May 2016
I never fought back
I always took what I was given
Afraid that if I snapped
There'd be bodies needed hidden

I keep my cool
Let others stand on top
Allowed them their victories
Knowing that it will stop

A bully feels great
When his victim is broken
But the real victims are them
Their damage is already spoken

They pry on the weak
And pretend to be strong
Relying on a facade
To stop people proving them wrong

I've spoken of acts
And theirs is just another
They act out against others
And hide their damage under covers

It's sympathy I feel
For those to weak
To admit they are scared
And to openly speak

Though as sorry for them
As I do truly feel
I still have to laugh
Cause they think, fake strength is real

So no, I won't hit you back
I won't give you the striking
You probably need
I'll just keep reciting

I'm stronger than that
So I'll continue to take
All that you have
For I'm to strong to break
Adam Long May 2016
I could drown,
Within those eyes
A deeper blue,
Than all the skies.
For a single Kiss,
I'd tell a million lies

For a cold glance
Glacial blue.
There is no thing
I would not do

Contradicting hands
Which feel so warm.
For one handshake
I'd **** a swarm.

I was never yours
And you, never mine,
But for your presence
I'd give my mind.

I'd sell it,
I'd **** it,
I'd change.
Just so you,
Would feel the same.

My love,
You don't love me.
I'm not blind,
But I couldn't see.

When you said friends,
That's what you meant.
But I know, no effort
Was ever spent.

I paid the price,
Of my sanity.
Though I gained a love,
For all eternity.

So suffer I may,
And die I might.
But the law of love,
Only tells us what's right.

And that law tells me,
There will never be a we.
And accepting that,
Allows me to be free.

So move on I will
And for you
I will never ****

For we weren't,
Meant to be.
So I will move on,
Happy now, with just me.
Clearing through some old poet freak stuff and i found this, very nostalgic in a sad way. Tell me what you think :)

Fuscia lips
Adam Long May 2016
It’s my fault, she’s moving on,
Openness just isn’t a trait of mine.
That doesn’t mean I wanted her gone,
just that I needed more time.

Sorry I ******* things up,
I guess that’s just my skill.
I don’t realise I don’t talk much,
I thought we had time to ****.

Honesty I gave you,
This much is a fact.
Only misery I imparted,
I guess you didn’t need that.

If I could go back to when we began
Take back all my history.
Just enjoy the time,
leaving my pain a mystery.

So as to nurture your smile,
Of such inviting fuchsia.
Fight harder for what we had,
so this would be a brighter future.

Sadly no, there she goes,
I love her more than she could know.
My stupid inch thick armour,
caused me to watch her go.

I will see her again,
I’ll see those lilly white eyes.
I’ll sink inside myself,
and wish I’d told you lies.

Life passes, time eats.
Adam Long May 2016
The fragility of life
Witnessed via passing time.
Where physical strength once was rife
Now only the strength of mind

The passing of life
Witnessed by those younger
Than we, audience to strife
Seeing lifes hunger

And how avoraciously it eats.
Glutting on human flesh,
And all other meats.
To time, all life is fresh.

thoughtfeel
Adam Long Apr 2016
Emotions are like bullets
Hitting faster than thoughts
They are fraught with danger
and by design cause wars

But battles are not won
by rashness and impulsion
it takes calm and collected thought
which wont bow down to coercion

feeling this
wont help you feel that
feeling this
means your actions are no act

so think if you feel
but don't feel cause you think
promoting false emotions
causes truth to sink

did this make you think?
or did this make you feel?
and if it did both
which one was more real?

The act of life
Adam Long Apr 2016
Your worn our mask it slips,
Your tired our act it shows,
Faltering occasionally,
To reveal a you which nobody knows.

When I say nobody,
I truly mean that,
You’re not even aware,
You ever learned to act.

The mask you wear,
Is part of your face,
You change it all the time,
you have masks for every day.

Its not your fault,
It’s a blameless act infact.
Which is a shock you,
For theres always be those you’ve had ,

In your search light,
The epicentre of your passion,
For being made to feel,
Your happiness is a wartime ration.

So to spread it out you change,
For each of your companions,
Don a different face,
And become that someone’s champion.

You be what you think they want
While all the while you’re not

Your selfish inability
To open your eyes, to truly see,

That all people want from you
Is for you to be true.
To scrap the masks, quit the act,
It’s hard as hell, that’s a fact,

You’ve worn so many that,
You have forgotten what.
The real you Is
And is not.

But that’s ok, just make another face,
But if you do,
Can you keep up the pace?

It’s easier to make,
Than just to be,
Which in my eyes shows,
for all we have, few of us are free.

We are put on a stage
But given no lines,
And god forbid
We say something, honest in our eyes.
So keep acting, I won’t tell you stop,
The saddest thing is,
I don’t know if I wrote this or not.

— The End —
