When he saw her
Hair sopping wet
And matted against
Her face in strands

Eyes strewn shut
As her head
Tilted towards
The rainy sky

And as their
Eyes locked
He could see
The pain in them

He did something
He promised
Never to do again
He hugged her

A bird made of paper
Can never fly
For its wings are too thin

All these paper people
With paper hearts
Just waiting to be stained
Waiting to be T-O-R-N

All these plastic people
With all their whole hearts
I guess now we know
Why they're all so fake

At first they were starry
And when I blinked
They became cloudy
And then they rained
Then the world
Became as dark
As your eyes

I didn’t realize
I had fallen in love
Until I noticed
My eyes straying
From the clouds
And onto you
unnamed Dec 2019
You’ve taken up permanent residence
In my heart

Yet you never seem
To pay the rent

Water pools around her feet
Constant stream of ripples
The river reflects bright light
As the girl sings a sweet melody
I watch from afar
Wishing I could sing along
To the sweet river girl
