If you want all
you'd have nothing at all

I was quite happy before I met you,
Which I still am, by the way,
As the encounter with you changed nothing.

I am cheerful,
My anxiety is sleeping,
I am cheerful, but I am not moving,
I like this cheerful silence.

The world has shrunk
   societies are floundering
   what will be the new normal?
   there's no telling.

   Held to ransom we are
   the pandemic knows no abating
   despite our sharpest wit
   we are still losing

There's no time,
There's just this place,
There's only me,
For all this to face.

I couldn't be more
lesser would better suit
futile to self-aggrandise
on a higher pedestal myself I wouldn't dare put

let me face myself fair and square
others rightly belong to a better breed
if myself I could humbly accept
little else would I ever need
