is this when we start loving ourselves?

when will the perfectly curated frames
of the most desirable parts of our lives
become true?
the emphasis of the adored versions of oneself
will continue our demise.
we strip back the layers of what is actually there,
only to find everything we’ve hated of others.
the projection of insecurity lay dormant,
until the antithesis of yourself appears at your nose.
forgive the body you inhabit
for you’ve robbed it of cognitive nutrition.

is this when we start loving others?

we must see others as we come.
understanding our differences and loving them just the same.
we must rip off the guise of status,
as it’s been blinding us since birth.
innately capturing every ounce of joy left in our bodies
while comparison crashes it’s deafening cymbals.
as we are all skin and bone. and bleed when cut.
we are all the same.
we will forgive others, for treating them as if they were any different from the same dust we came from.
for we’ve robbed them of peace.

is this when you start loving me?
and i to you?

Wilder Mind
Reece Feb 2020
Your heart was never there,
in every moment we shared.
I packed my suitcase full of sparks
and you called me a fool.
I always said I could find,
the sunniest meadow,
that always shined.
I guess I had the wilder mind.

Lust
Reece Feb 2020
She grew flowers in her hair and drank the morning's dew.
She'd often whisper to the sun all the things she knew.
But when it came to her and the moon,
her lust came too soon.
The flowers did wilt,
she became a prisoner to the silt.
She dies capitve of her need,
her heart strangled by the weeds.

Snow day
Reece Dec 2020
The sky gave way to the wintry rays
like fresh linen powder.
The cloud-covered sun reflects off the snow
To fill my room with a milky white glow.
Notice the voices of neighbors
Who’ve been shut in all year,
And join in their laughter.
Disrupt the pristine powder
With your boot tracks
While patterns of intricate snowflakes fall,
To join in towering mounds of ice.
Here one day, then not.
The cycle will return,
When the birds can’t chirp,
And the sky gives way again.
But until then,
Listen to the way the wind blows
And study how the snow falls.
Turn off the noises you’ll hear tomorrow,
And bask in the day we have received.

Falling out of love
Reece May 2020
You left the lights on downstairs.
Did you do that on purpose?
Cuz I know you’ve been sleeping on the couch,
Its been cold and its been lonely
But all of the shouting has worn me out.

I dont want to leave you like this
But I know its for the best.
Won't you kiss me once more on the head.
I need to know if this love was real
Were we soulmates that met at the wrong time?

I hope you find what you're searching for.
I know it wasn't with me.
I send my love
I wish you well.

here one day, then not.
you’ll leave as the wind blows south;
dandelion mime.

Pure Dream
Reece Jan 2020
A single pure dream,
in a black world of disguise.
Hiding itself in plain sight.
Loving everything for how it comes,
hatred of nothing.

Plagued by expectation
burdened by thoughtlessness.
Chained around its ankles the hopes of others.
Sinking slowly,
deeper, and deeper, into the black world.

Addiction

What made you say that?
What made you speak?
Was it the chemicals in your lungs,
or the smoke between your teeth?
