The sun kissed our skin when we first kissed,
I loved you in the midst of Hell, in the heights of Heaven,
Would you know me if I saw your spirit?
Would you still love me as I am now?
I try every night to forget your stinging touch,
And every night I lean away from that memory.

Do you remember when your heart was too heavy?
I tried to hold it for you, I tried to bear it for you,
“This is my burden to carry,”
You whispered in dawn’s opening glory,
“My love, you have the hands to bear,
But I cannot pass my heart to you.”
So you passed into the dying day
Without much goodbye to me.

Would you recognize me?
I’ve tried to move on, soften my heart,
Brought in new flowers, painted over your wallpaper-
I haven’t finished, but would you recognize
This house we built together with our wet faces,
Our soft hands and hearts,
Our naive souls?

Into the night you moved,
Into the ghostly pale light of the moon,
Into the daylight you moved.

I hope you find a wagon
That is only yours
I hope it carries your tired heart,
I hope you love it.
