Almost
Maeve Sloane Jun 2020
If we don’t ever talk again, just remember:
I loved you.
But we lived a life of “Almost.”
They say you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone.
In our case, we knew what we had but let it go.
So, let’s not waste the rest of our lives wondering
What could have been.

The “right one” won’t leave.

Gossip Girl
Maeve Sloane Jun 2020
You close your mind off to the possibility.
Shutting out hope, your cold heart wilters inside a fortress built with remnants of disdain and jealousy.
Spiteful words drip from your lips,
Convolging the darkest parts of yourself disguised by eloquent poetics.
Reciting confounded words only to afflict wounds that have been afflicted unto you.
Vile poison spills with such a sweet aroma.

I Only Have One Answer
Maeve Sloane Jun 2020
Dear Blue,

I wonder what goes through your mind when you hear my name.
Was it the wrong timing or the wrong person?
Wait, were you the one? Is there only one?
Can you choose who you love?
What lesson did I learn from meeting you?
Would I do it again? In a heartbeat.

-Your once sweet girl, Yellow.

Blue and Yellow
Maeve Sloane Jun 2020
in a market
people pour through the streets
bracelets cover the crowded tables
purples & pinks     a mirage of color threaded together
the scene replaying in memory
sun faded yellow placed around my wrist cohesive with the ocean on his
full of joy

alone in my room         i am
reminiscing on opportunities lost
people passing and time judging
blue eyes    lasting only as a distant thought
cemented in memory   late nights      long talks
shelter    best friends      my bracelet reminds me
my heart is comatose.
