It’s great
that they read us
a joy
when they say
“I loved your
last poem
the best one
today”
We post
and we thank them
for all
that they give

American Travels ( for Richard Hugo)
I so wanted to be you
wanting
the rotting wagon tongue the
lunar dust
I wanted your west
your dying towns
the salmon that swam
upstream
and the girl that giggled and scissor kicked
in your drink
because
I'm a poet and what might

Sunlight Upon Wilted Lillies
their
forms
like
wax
melted
in
white
smears
down
their
vase
stars
abandon
them
their
moon
eclipsed
beautiful
still
the
sun
which
once
sustained
them
is
now
their
sworn
enemy
and
their
cloying
scent
fills
only
the
nostrils
of
the
dead

I have to throw away the flowers
I received on my birthday
They aren't white lillies
but the sunlight coming through
the window highlights them
