on this boat I am safe as long as I can see shore
but that is not what I have built this for
I sailed out for adventure and a chance to explore
this place is too mundane I want something more
to navigate by the stars like in the times of yore
and find rubies and gold treasures galore
but first I must get there so I reach for my oar
and row into the unknown until I am sore
I look out to the east and the clouds I just abhor
the waves grow higher and the wind starts to roar
the clouds begin to light up and the rain starts to pour
a storm such as this one I have never seen before
and all this premonition I can no longer ignore
but I am not turning back I'll risk the ocean floor

what if

What if our thoughts were controlled
and original thought was all but done
if it were illegal to ask questions
for example this one

what if there was no future or past
and only the simultaneous
time was only another tool
like a meter stick or others, miscellaneous

or what if those with life
instead of just being
break away from the grid
giving their own life meaning

without fear of their ideas being chased
hunted down, gathered up and erased
built up in great heaping pyres
and ceremoniously fed to the fires

people could extend their ideas
through-out the ages
merely by putting their words
on a few blank pages

influencing people
generations apart
simply by creating
a little bit of art

Shadow dance under the moon light,
You slip your fingers into the hollow of my palm.
*From right to left, slow dancing into the night.

And all this magic, stars in your eyes,
Lover, show me your realm,
Bare me your heart,
*Rid me of this world's senseless vice.

don't dress like a *****,
but remember: your success is based upon how much of your *** they see.

stand up for yourself,
but remember: use the wrong tone, and your husband will beat you.

have fun,
but remember: going out alone and drinking will only end up with you in a stranger's bed the next morning.

make sure you never have to rely on your man for money,
but remember: someone will probably steal your purse while you're out alone.

"no" means "no,"
but remember: you always have to give him what he wants.

**** isn't the victim's fault,
but remember: you were asking for it.

it's your life. it's your body.
                                            but remember:
                                                                 it's not.

Hi. Please be sure to read the poem in its entirety before commenting, thank you. And just so we're clear: this poem is not in any way meant to degrade women, but rather to point out how society often sends women and girls mixed messages. We tell them not to act like "*****" or "******," and yet everywhere you look there's another song or music video that sexualizes women, and then we blame the victims when **** occurs. We tell them to be independent and stand up for themselves, but then automatically assume they must have done something wrong if they get beaten by their spouses or significant others. We tell them to take control of their lives and bodies, and yet the very next moment, we tell them the exact opposite.

Every two minutes, an American is sexually assaulted. 1 in 4 women will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime.

It's 2014, and I am still a long way off from being a parent. But I wouldn't want my future daughter living in a world like this.

She shouldn't have to.

To Matter

In moments like these,
*His breathless whisper,

Silent and comforting.
Soft eyes, believing,
Words like music,
That flow in a soothing ebb,
Ever so ecstatic in form.

If only I could know.

And in that tide of pure happiness,
That fraction of a second,
Wherein only the purest joy exists.
When our eyes meet,
To be known, to matter.
For that brief moment of time,
When the veil drops,
And he peers into my soul.
The warmth in his eyes,
Nulling out everything
That makes life miserable.
To know that at that moment,
My existence matters,
And I'm not someone,

A silent rendition,
A drama of humans with their brains,
Dire consequences of a guiltless game,
Loosing oneself to this endless paranoia.
Provocative minds, useless disjunctions,
Fanciful  conjectures, truth less indignities.
Welcome to the Human Condition.
Welcome to Earth,
Our Alma Mater
Third Planet from the Sun,
Wherein humans,
Bountiful, Knowledge seeking,
Long for The Truth
To set them free.

As the wind tangled in the curls of Aphrodite's hair
Entwined as though, being apart means to speak blasphemy
As the waves rushing to kiss the shore
Urgent desires being locked up for too long.
As the breath of air, potent and needed
A gasp of life flowing into the veins.
As sinful as the first bite of the forbidden fruit
Seeking only enlightenment and truth.
That's how much I hate to see you go
That's how much I need you.
**Stay.

Sometimes
I'm at a loss for words.

Sometimes
I feel what words cannot describe.

Either way
I revel in silence.
