I took my time
And saved my dimes
So I could buy
The best of rhymes

But in my haste
I gave away
The best of all
That I had saved

From my first rhyme
To the last dime
Every bit of it
That I could find

Then remembered Ben
One time did say
Haste makes waste
I'm afraid...
"Take time for all things: Great haste make great waste."

If you don't look at life's adventure
As one to be obtained
How will you know the road to get there
Or to swing open wide  the gate

It's not for the faint
Or the weak at heart
I'm not pointing fingers
But you know who you are

It can serve you for breakfast
Sunny side up
Spit you out by mid-morning
Then have you for lunch

It will fill you with doubt
Make you laugh, make you cry
This crazy mix of emotions
This thing we call life

Runs the highest of fever
While giving cold chills
Makes you a believer
As it lies through its gills

It can take you out early
Or keep you out late
Invite you to go fishing
Then use you as bait

It's a turn of the cards
It's a roll of the dice
It's a flip of the coin
This thing we call life

I keep the things I love
Hidden within a box
Little things I love the most
Things that to me mean so much

Fathers old pocket watch
Momas golden mothers ring
Carefully put away
Safe in a box unseen

A precious letter written
By a loved ones tender hand
Gently wrapped in an aged cloth
And tied by a ribbon band

A photo from long ago
Taken at a special time
Kept through so many years
Brings back a memory fine

I keep these things I cherish
That can never be replaced
Inside a box of memories
Where there I think them safe

Today, I take them from the box
To look upon them every day
So that the memories they recall
In my mind shall never fade

This is how you write a poem
When you're holding nothing
Find a line and set to rhyme
Until it sounds like something

Settle on a subject
Although you may not know it
You might want to Google
So that you don't blow it

Hopefully you have spell check
So you're not labeled an idiot
If you lack in the vocab
Go back to the Google bit

Do it all for the fun and
Keep those rhymes a coming
That's pretty much how you write
A poem straight out of nothing
