i have tried to love you.  time and time again
all i got from you was heartache and pain
with your flirting games there in front of me
that was all on show for everyone to see

i have tried and tried to prove my love to you
how to love someone you just never knew
you just played around you didnt really care
the love you had for me was never really there

all you ever wanted was to make of fool of me
with you flirting ways for everyone to see
i was just a fool who believed in you
but to love to someone you never really knew
i asked if you love you said you dont know
theres no need to lie i know you wanna go
i could see it coming the way you are with me
nothing is the same as used to be

why cant you just tell me you and i are through
you and i are over you found some one new
i dont know what to do  i still love you so
it would break my my heart  if i had to watch you go

why cant you just tell me you are moving on
love you had for me has now been and gone
i dont really know what im supposed to do
i cant help myself i still love you so
it would break my heart if had to watch you go
i was dancing with my darling in memphis tenennsee
beneath  the moon above there was her and me
we turned on the radio danced to our favourite  song
held each other tight we danced all night long

beneath a canopy of stars we danced away the night
stars just like little diamonds shining there so bright
no one else around there was her and i
we danced away the night beneath the midnight sky

i wont forget that night in memphis tennessee
beneath the moon above when she danced with me
danced away the night to our favourite song
very much in love we danced all night long

i will hold the memory till the day i die
when we danced together.  beneath a midnight sky
held each other tight as we danced along
till the early morning light to our favourite song
theres a picture that hangs in the hall
just hanging there on the wall
i gaze at that picture day after day
and you never change in anyway

then that picture always seems to smile
i sit and stare for awhile
then im left feeling blue
with that a picture of you
and you never change in anyway

then that picture preys on my mind
brings back memories of the lonesome kind
then im left feeling blue with that picture of you
and you never change in anyway
when the sun goes down casting shadows on the wall
as the darkness falls memories i recall
times i spent with you when you were here with me
and the love we shared that there used to be

how we sat together by the firelight
cuddled up together on a winters night
we would sit together in the fire glow
looking out the window at the falling snow

these things i remember when the shadows fall
good times that we shared my mind it will recall
they are there with me the memories will stay
that i look back upon now so far away

when the sun goes down casting shadows on the wall
as the darkness falls memories i recall
times i spent with you when you were here with me
and the love we shared that there used to be
daddy  had a christmas song he used to sing to me
he would pick me up sit me on his knee
family they would gather around the christmas tree
they would sing along to daddies melody

always made us happy when he began to sing
christmas to your heart daddy he would bring
words they told a story reached into your soul
made you feel happy made you feel so whole

i wont for get his song that he sang to me
that made christmas happy like its meant to be
someday when im older and christmas comes along
i will do what daddy did sing his christmas song
i was born a country girl in memphis tennesee
daddy played guitar then daddy he taught me
he loved a country music  sing a country song
when my daddy played i would sing along

daddy passed away left his legacy
left his country music in the heart of me
i travelled town to town playing every where
deep inside of me daddy he was there

how he used to strum to a country song
when i was just a kid i would sing along
i wont forget my daddy and his legacy
and his country music that he taught to me
