At the brink of a new millennium,
I realized that the love you give never equates to the love you will receive.
The heart does not usually comprehend when it finally tires out of pumping, its ragged edges give way
Sputtering out goodbye, goodbye, goodbye.
It takes hours to understand that
The way you walk was meant for greater strides and I could never catch up.
It takes months to discern that
The far-away look you had was meant for places that I could never reach through.
It took years to finally say it
That the bird took flight and left the tree behind.
At the brink of a new millennium,
We're too self-centered to think about giving or even forgiving.
So I decided to do the both for us.
Your presence still ghosts around though.
I still ask if you're still there.
