The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to First Sergeant Martin Conboy, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 5 May 1862, while serving with Company B, 37th New York Infantry, in action at Williamsburg, VA. First Sergeant Conboy took command of the company in action, the captain having been wounded, the other commissioned officers being absent, and handled it with skill and bravery.
