शाम सुहानी ढल रही है; हवा ठंडी चल रही है ।

तन, मन, रूह को धीरे धीरे सहला रही है ।

पर इस सुहानी शाम, जला रही है, मोरा जिया;

पंखी घर लौट रहे हैं, तुम कब आओगे पिया ?

बस चंद्रमा खिल रहा है, बादलों से आंखमिचौली खेल रहा है ।

पर अमावस मेरी बड़ी लम्बी है, दर्द जुदाई का, लंबा सहा है ।

अब आ भी जाओ, इतना भी न तड़पाओ;

पुकारती हूं दिल से, आओ, आ भी जाओ ।

Wings or Cage

What will you give your girl, your daughter, sister, wife ; wings or cage?

Overcome we will have to that deadly, that centuries old airtight image

Cut off barriers we will have to, those that will come in our way, at every stage

Surely from MCPs, from the orthodox there will be a strong outrage

Think of it, we have conquered sati, from a child-widow's torture, we have come far

Female infanticide overcome we can, if educated n independent mothers are

Education is a must for every girl of every strata; there shouldn't be any bar

women are as talented n clever as men, they can, if motivated, become a shining star

Fathers, grandfathers, brothers, husbands should decide this important fact, listening to the voice of their conscience whether girls should be given wings, their wings should be clipped, they should be caged or female eggs destroyed.

GRATEFUL I  AM

Count our blessings we must, each n everyone of us.

The list of wants and desires will seem small thus.

Need we all; peace, health, wealth and happiness.

Turn around n see the anxious, ill, poor n sadness.

Gratefulness n satisfaction improve will, our peace;

For humans, wants and desires never really cease.

An expert, to write a list of have n have nots does insist.

When introspect we, increase will the gratefulness list.

Strives everyone for a better 'morrow, it's not wrong.

Life is strife, a struggle constant; it's not a song.

But if we our blessings count; easy become will things.

Darling, now between us there is an opaque soundproof thick grey curtain

The future seems hopeless, dark, cloudy, and absolutely uncertain

People now seem fed up when I remember something n speak about you

Move on I have to, everyone so says; but how does one? Know this, do you?

"You live in the past", is the allegation they make; "yes I do"; is my answer ;

But can someone tell me, where is that ******* switch, can someone please answer

I agree I have to all over again learn to live without you; guide me, how do I this do?

મેહકતા પુષ્પો થી ભરેલું હતું ચમન

મસ્ત લેહરો ઉછાળતો, નીલો ગેહરો હતો એ સાગર

બનાવતાં હતાં મારું તન મન તાજુ અને ઉજાગર.

કુદરત નું સાનિધ્ય છે અતિ સુંદર અને અદભુત;

સાંજ ઢળતાં, ચંદ્ર ઉગિયો સોળે શણગાર સજી પ્રસર્યું અમૃત.

વાદળો સંગ લુપાછુપી રમતો ચંદ્ર, વરસાવતો હતો રૂપેરી દૂધ.

ખુદા ની આં કુદરત જોતા, સાચેજ થઈ ગઈ હું દિગ્મૂઢ.

AUTUMN LEAVES

There lived an elderly gentleman, in the home for the aged.

One day, he threw away his phone, when raged.

Then burst he, into tears and wept loudly.

He said, " for days I  haven't slept soundly".

"None of my children have called me since days".

"Not one of them bothers, how their father stays".

Now to his aid, came another elderly gentleman.

"To hell with such children, forget them as soon as you can".

"Let's get mobile savvy, n learn whatsapp n facebook".

"Let's play games, do gardening n dishes tasty cook".

Everyone was excited n  immediately to this agreed.

A kind volunteer taught them, how to, many of these things do.

Happy very they are now. Their life is, once again, all set.

Sing, dance n enjoy they with their new-found friends; n no more fret.

These autumn leaves, have learnt to adjust to this life friendly, exciting n new.

Decided they have to live beautifully through their autumn years, anew.

દિલ હોત જો પત્થર નું

પત્થર નું જીગર હોત તો સારું, આવું દર્દ તો ન થાત

મોમ જેવા દિલમાં, થોડો ગરમાવો પણ દઝાડે, સાચી છે આં વાત.

પરાયું અને પોતાનું દર્દ લઈ કોમળ દિલ વાળો થાય દુઃખી

જ્યારે પત્થર દિલ વાલા ને બધું એક સમાન; શું દુઃખી ને શું સુખી !!

હીરો કઠણ હોય એટલે કદાચ એ હોય છે કીમતી;

મોમ જેવા દિલવાળા ને બધાની ચિંતા, તૂટે દિલમાં ચિમટી.

ઓ માલિક મારા, જરા જરામાં મારે શા કાજ થવું જોઈએ દુઃખી;

નફ્ફટ લોકો ને જોઉ છું, આજ કાલ એ લોક રહે છે બહુ સુખી.

तकदीर

भाग ले तु चाहे जितना, तकदीर और कर्म से तु भाग न पाएगा

ताकत और अक्ल लगाले चाहे जितनी, बच न तु पाएगा

सेहना है जो तकदीर में, उससे तु  कभी अपने आप को बचा न पाएगा ।

लोग करते हैं पाप और चतुराई, जर, जोरू और ज़मीन के लिए;

अपनो को देते हैं धोका, थोड़ी सी ताकत या दौलत के लिए

भले वोह अपनी मस्ती में जिए, पर कर्म तैयारी रखता है, उनको उलझाने के लिए ।

तेरी सोच संवार तु, बोली और कर्म संवार तु, अच्छाई का रास्ता अपना तु

शब्द शीतल जल जैसे होने चाहिए, अग्नि बाण का प्रयोग करना नहीं तु ।

कर्म भलाई के कर; कमसे कम ऐसे, हानि किसी को पहुंचाना नहीं तु ।

जो लिखा है तुने अपने कर्मो से, अपने ही हाथों से; उसे तु न मिटा पाएगा

अपने हाथों लिखी हुई तकदीर से उलझना नहीं, उसे तु बदल न पाएगा

बस कर्म सुधार; और भगवान के हाथो में, सौंप दे तेरी डोलती हुई नैया ।

देखकर उसे, आपकी याद आ गई मुझे; दिल धड़कने लगा, बजने लगी सितार;

काश आप भी आ जाते; पुकार रहा है आप को मेरा प्यार ।

हर माह जगाता है चंद्रमा एक नई आश, दिल हो जाता है बेकरार;

ऐसी भी क्या उम्मीद, की होंगे जरूर दर्शन आपके मौत से पहले एक बार

आई और गई कितनी पूर्णिमाएं पर अमावस अब तक गई नहीं एक भी बार;

जो भी हो, पर अब तक, मानी नहीं है मैंने भी हार ।

आपको शायद तरस आ जाए हम पर भी, कभी कभार ।

ON MOTHER'S DAY

From Heavens above, my maid Dahi, was a wonderful gift I got.

What's unconditional love, by practising it; she easily us taught.

Bathed me, combed my hair and even bands for me, bought.

Climb trees she would; and fruits like gauva n custard-apple for me she got.

Or from her own money, green mangoes n berries for me, she bought.

Remember I, feasting on baked dry bombay-ducks n rotla, for me she brought.

From our garden big, collect she would, my favorite "bor" berries n got.

To protect my pet hens n their eggs, with others, she actually fought.

On the way, carrying me over puddles; what love was, me she taught.

For me she would warm food, because I would enjoy it hot.

Many times my Mom remark would, before your arrival, excited she got.

Bless her O Lord in Heaven, n her keep in Your arms. For this gift, I thank You a lot.

गर बिन पिए हुआ है यह हाल; तो आप का ही है कसूर ।

इस लिए कहता हूं, आंखे आप की, बड़ी नशीली है हुजुर;

खूबसूरत तो है ही, चमकता है इन में, एक अजीब सा नुर ।

छा जाता है नशा; बिन पिए; असर होती हैं गहरी ज़रूर ।

ह्रदय धड़कता है आप के लिए, जो प्यार से है उर पुर ।

मांगू इतना, रखिए न हमें, आप से दूर, बनिए न यु क्रूर ।

किस्मत हमारी, काश होती अच्छी, तो आप होते हमारे, ओ हुजुर।

CLEAN

Come let's help our children and ourselves to keep our Mother Earth clean.

Why destroy this beautiful gift from the Almighty; why be so nasty and mean !

Come join hands let us; to keep it clean; devoid of cleanliness, our Earth has long been.

It's our moral obligation to preserve life that thrived here; which was normally seen.

If we start practicing this; others, specially our children, to join us will be very keen.

EASTER

Celebrates Easter, all around, the entire Christian world, on this auspicious day.

Kiddos enjoy the Easter baskets, eggs n Bunnies , in every corner curled, happy n gay!!!

For us it is a very very special day, it's memory with us will always, forever stay.

An icy cold day at Niagara Falls it was, in 1984; when we couldn't keep the cold at bay;

I impulsively requested a lift and met Leena and Grandma on this very special day.

Took us she around the falls, almost into Canada n to Grandma see, on the way.

Dropping us at our motel, after a sumptuous Italian meal, at a posh restaurant, she went away;  

Only to surprise us with a big Easter Bunny n basket, n gifts many; as in our room we lay.

At the desk, cancelled she the taxi booked; n back came early morning,  bright n gay

She first home drove us and with gifts umpteen loaded us; Santa on an Easter Monday !!!

At Buffalo airport, dropped us she when; overwhelmed we were and didn't even know, what to say

We thought never would we meet them ; never would we be able to come back, to see them some day !!!

But a relationship strong grew, letters n gifts lovingly exchanged we; visited them we did, one day.

Lovingly, a good morning n night I wish her, every morning n night, even today;

May in Heaven happy they remain; our dearest Grandma, Leena n Arlene I pray.

MY PRECIOUS PEARLS

Labour of my love, a precious pearl is every poem that I write,

Ahura, Din Yazad, Ma Sharda Saraswati, Baba guides n shows me this light.

Some poems happy may be, some sad, some pensive, some actually light

Eternal love, eternally famous lovers, or on a romantic moonlight

On environment, Nature, on topics social or  on women's plight

Also on soldiers, Armed forces, martyers n leaders of might

Parents, grandparents, relatives, friends who make my life happy n bright

Imagination wild that takes me on a lengthy , uninterrupted flight

Help me O Ahura to keep writing; may every reader enjoy n think right

Plants full of vegetables, grains; Fruit ; and flower laden lush green trees.

Mangoes, apples, pears, peaches bananas and cherries;

Grapes, melons, apricots, avocadis, and all sorts of berries.

Republic Day Greetings To You...

Because our Armed Forces guard our land, soundly we can sleep.
Thank you for this I earnestly do, with gratitude deep.

Brave, hardworking, courageous and dedicated to the core,
To protect Mother India all the time you are at the fore.

Salute you, Armed Forces, with respect deep, I do.
About your monetary and living conditions, I often rue.

On Republic Day, greetings unto each one of you I send.
On Shaheed Day, my hands I fold in prayer and my head I bend.

काश तू भी संदेशा भेजता, करके चंदासे मीठी दो बात ।

चंदा ओ चंदा, करू मै तुझसे पिया की फरियाद
दुर जा बसे, पहोचु उन तक कैसे, बता जा, सुन मेरी फरियाद ।
देना पिया को संदेश, बहुत सताती है मुझे उनकी याद;
सुनाना मेरी दुखभरी दास्तान; जीवन हो रहा है बरबाद ।

प्रीत

प्रीत की रीत निराली ओ मनवा प्रीत की रीत निराली;

इस प्रीत के खातिर पी गई मीरा, हस्ते हुए, जहर की प्याली।

इस प्रीत के खातिर प्रेम से सींचे बाग को, थका हुआ माली।

इसी प्रीत ने बनाई कृष्ण राधा की जोड़ी भी गोरी और काली।

उमर प्रीत में प्रीतम की  बड़ी, और प्रियतमा की उम्र बाली।

इसी लिए प्रीत में झुक जाए, फूलों से लदी हुई  नाजुक डाली ।

खुदा की प्रीत में, बेफिक्र हो के सूफी गाये, प्रेम से भरी कव्वाली ।

प्रीत हमें क्या-क्या करवाएं इसीलिए कहती हूं प्रीत की रीत निराली ओ मनवा प्रीत की रीत निराली ।

Guddi,  this was written on 09Jul '11.....

A cute little walkie-talkie doll,
Fair, plump,lovely long hair et all;
A pout she would put often on,
When angry with anyone or Shaun.

Today our princess has met her prince ;
Has suddenly grown up ever since.
Like our Shez, she too will soon leave us.
Leaving in our heart n life,  a void thus.

Tomorrow is her Roka, soon thereafter her engagement.
Girls grow so very fast ; leaving their dear ones after a little merriment.
"Time and tide wait for no one ", is a saying true.
That's why these two cute sisters, very fast grew.
Wishing you both, all the v best in life,, always.

LAST PRAYER N WISHES

A prayer most common is, "keep me able and always agile;

Even as I die, may I always wear a smile.

Healthy may I remain physically,  mentally n spiritually".

This, between Ahura n me, may please be agreed upon mutually.

As I  in my last moments,  on my dear one's lap lay;

May the  sweet n holy "kalaams of Ashemvahu" I hear n say.

Foul smells don't wish we; may there be scent of sandalwood, roses  n lavender.

May there be a good time, roj  n date on the calendar.

May I please avail the benefit of after death prayers,  specially sarosh three

As and when comes the transition,  may all my dear ones be around me.

As  said is in gujarati,  "મને ફુલ નિ માફક ઊંચકી લેજે "; may this be done.

If happens all this,  " oh death , over you,  out right I have won".

If she sees anything that is chewable, especially a bone marrow;

Even from a passage, or an opening narrow;

Much before Brandy, Takaa can quickly dart like an arrow.

At times the kids, drag her back have to, like a wheelbarrow.

No one dares pass by our home, without the permission of this pharoah.

કેહવુ છે ઘણુ બધુ, પણ શબ્દ જડતા નથી, દિલ ભરાઇ આયું છે

વ્યથા વધી રહી છે, આંસુ સરી રહ્યા છે, ગળુ ગુંગળાઇ ગયું છે

કોણે કહું મારા દિલની લાગણી, સાંભળવા માટે કોઇ સંવેદનશીલ જિગર રહયું નથી.

રાધા બિચારી, વિરહમાં તારા, રડી પણ ન શકી, વ્યથા એની, એ જ જાને

મીરાં પોતાના દિલનુ દર્દ કહિ ન શકી, ગિરિધર શિદ થઈ ગયો હતો એકદમ  ચુપ ?

મૌન ક્યાં સુધી જાળવી શકીશ, પીડા ક્યાં સુધી સહી શકીશ; વ્યથાના પણ છે અનેક રંગ રુપ,

હું મારી વ્યથા કોણે કહું, જગ પાષાણ હૃદય નુ છે, પત્થર પર  આંસુ કેમ વહાવું

આં પત્થર દિલ દુનિયામાં મને   સાંભળવા, એક  કોમળ હૃદય ક્યાંથી લાવું?

તું સાંભળ મારી વ્યથા કાન દઈ, ઓ કાન્હા, તને સંભળાવવા હું છું બેતાબ, બોલ ક્યારે  આવું?

DOWN MEMORY LANE

Let's go back a little n become lil college gals once again;

Let's go back in time, for a minutes few, to 1971, when it all began.

Pearl n me meeting Badri Prasad in the lift; n his becoming our friend

Our meeting Nisha (not Neesha) n how she to the Nsg. College did land.

Mabel's attack of asthama, rushing her to Nair, that's how our friendship did start

With France n Veera, remaining as Mrs Sigamany's giddy goats we did; till we finally did part

Pearl once even became Dr. D'sousa's daughter by saying "present Daddy", was real fun

Bunking English classes n going to the canteen, by us, was frequently done.

Cherish I, those detours to K. Rustoms, for "1 Pista sandwich n 2 same things"

My darling Af lovingly taking us like a mother hen, under her wings

Oh! Endless memories, soooo very many, fun filled ones, fill my mind n heart

Of my very being, now they are an integral, important, inseparable part.

આવી પાનખર

પત્તા ઝળવા લાગિયા, આવી જીવન ની પાનખર

કૂણાં પાન, હતાં લીલાં છમ, નાના બાળકો હોય જેવા;

વૃક્ષ થયું ઘટાદાર, જાણે આવ્યું હોય એને યોવન, ફળદ્રુપ એવા.

પક્ષીઓ આવ્યા હવે રેહવા, કોયલ કરે અહીં મીઠા ટહુકા

કળીઓ ખીલી, ફૂલો થયા, માનો પુષ્પ ની ઓઢણી ઓઢેલી નવોઢા !

વસંત ગઈ, સાવન ગયો; હવે આવી પાનખર, એના જીવન માં.

અંગ અંગ દુખવા લાગ્યું, આંખો થઈ ધુંદલી, કમી આવી યોવન માં.

પક્ષીઓ પોતાનો માળો છોડી, ઉડી ગયા દૂર દૂર, પરદેશ.

વૃક્ષ નું બદલાઈ ગયું સ્વરૂપ, કોઈ ને ગમતો નથી આં પહેરવેશ.

એકલું અટૂલું પડી ગયું હવે એ, ન પક્ષી, ન ફૂલ ન પાન

હવે તો જોખમ માં છે એનું અસ્તિત્વ, એનો જાન.

કહે બાપડું મન માં, આવી લાગી મુજ જીવન માં, પાનખર.

હવે ન સાથી ન સંગી, ન બાલુડા, ન ભાઈ બહેન કે વર.

એકલે હાથે તય કરવી પડશે મને હવે, જીવન ની આં ડગર.
