Dazed and Confused
CJ Sutherland Oct 2024
Have you ever woke up thinking
you’re in Twilight zone
I fell asleep, slept hard
Woke up at 6:30

I jumped up out of bed.
I thought it was 6:30 AM.
Half asleep in a daze,
I was amazed

How did that happen?
I sat down in the living room,
turned on the news like usual for 5 AM
I don’t sleep more than two hours at a time

While eating breakfast I noticed
something was wrong I felt fuzzy, sleepy
I had missed the night pills
Plus I was late for my next set of pills.

That’s unusual I should be
hurting more but I wasn’t.
Pill rules never double up
Take your pills adjust the time

Staring at my pills late!
In my case it was two hours early
the fog slowly lifted, I began to reason
something was not right

I thought it was odd
the dog laid there, not moving,
even when I jumped out of bed
He didn’t even raise his head

But something felt wrong
The house still felt hot
I check the weather every morning
Cool morning usually Low 60°

88° that temperature was too hot
I stepped outside. It was dark.
7 o’clock it should be cool
And the sun should be shining

Did I descend into chthonic region ‘s
It was dark and I was little frightened
of what I might find smell of smoke linger
The glow of fire in distant hills

That was my first clue
I finished my cereal fully awake
I flew over the cuckoo’s nest
I’m the fool on the hill

I came to my senses
I think I always knew
The clock on the wall told it all
Crazy time spent, back to bed I went

Chthonic
Relating to the underworld infernal weird, Eerie

I’ve had this déjà vu moment before, but within a few seconds I can determine what day it is what time it is. But this time it was Rick I was in an alternate world, and I kept saying something does not feel right, as if somebody was listening to me.. it wasn’t until finally looked at an atomic clock on the wall and I was stunned that I was stumped for over a half an hour. I’m losing my marbles.

Anatomy of Dying
CJ Sutherland Sep 2024
Something wicked, this Way comes
When sadness surrounds the Doldrums

Melancholy’s bit is Bitter, Sweet
Looking for mom’s face on the street

Praying as a child to find her and care
Streets of LA, sea of empty faces , cold stare

It’s strange, What we hold onto, cherish
Reminisce, of a loved one who perished

Unfinished business, Hardens the heart
Moments before, we were pulled apart

We find Silent comforts to cradle our mind
Where’d we come from what did we find?

Dealing with death’s passages of times
Needing help with our imaginary crimes

The first person I ever knew who died
She was 46 years young, my soul cried

My beloved mother Throat Cancer
Disenchanted asked God for the answer

Each second Every breath More Shallow
Then the one before, her face Hollow

Questioning The last time for this or that
Lapse memory, The Last time I fed her cat

Yet I never really paid attention
The uneasy emotions we never mention

Now, I pay attention to the smallest details
beauty in rain in hail that clean wet smell

The last thing  I’ll ever mention
Having your full undivided attention

Mom needed all her children near
Leaving earth the biggest unknown fear

Feckless children weren’t around
Couldn’t be bothered wouldn’t be found

What to expect on the other side
Her guardian angel her ethereal Guide

Three days before mom died (her and I)
We were sitting on corner curb outside

Her words were soft, gentle and kind
I don’t worry about you in my mind

You’re like a cat You’ll have many lives
You’ll land on your feet not on the street

Her voice grew intense serious and brave
Listen to me Don’t go to my grave

You need to realize I won’t be there
Find comfort with others Grieve elsewhere

She knew in the crevices of her head
Funerals are for the living not the dead

Pretentious, pompous circumstance
Don’t cry a pity party, Sing and Dance

A gentle smile graced her face
Her wisdom a tear stain trace

Find something Spectacularly brilliant
That will remind you of me resilient

A remembrance you’ll see
put it in your house, There I’ll Be

I found a clear quartz crystal cat with claws
Amethyst heart Dangled between its paws

Daily Family walks Nonchalantly By
A dust collector they see with a naked eye

I see life’s memories in vivid detail
Mother’s Grim Reaper rang her bell

Songs of morning and say goodbye. These are sacred so you don’t need to be religious to have a song universally touch your heart and touch your soul. Each one of these songs has a backstory of death and dealing with that pain. If you listen to the backstory on each of those songs, you’ll hear this song differently. This is why, when I read poetry, I always want to hear the backstory I get a wealth of information, and a deeper understanding of the poem and poet.

Sorry for the lengthy footnote, but I guarantee it’s worth the read

My mother had terminal cancer she did not want the children to see her dwindle away. She left us five children with my father. I was so young I thought she died any time I would mention her I would get a kick in the shin or a elbow in my stomach, learn later, my older siblings in life are now the truth. My younger brother and I did not until I was 10 years old. She tried to see his children. Mother said no I asked my sister who is that person and a small boy she said mom. I prayed every day to God. When I’m a grown-up, let me find her and let her know I care and she made a good person . Grandma (her mother) wanted me to take up with a private investigators left off after seven years of searching for her. (grandma was dying )They had some leads I was 20 years old. I found my mother when I was 21. I had been to every Alley in Skid Row and places young women should not go alone. I had a friend at know downtown LA the roughnecks. The last place of all the places we had been for months with a thrift store women shelter For personal necessities. I showed the photo went through this story to my surprise. The lady clerk pointed to the back of the room.
I took my mother home. I thought she’d be living with me now not on the street but on the third day, she said, I have to go home or they will give my room away she actually was living in a Victorian hospice with Catholic nuns. The headmistress came and asked me if I knew what was going on. Of course I did not because mom didn’t tell me. She told my mom was dying . she only had three months  to live. I prayed just let her be alive. I didn’t pray for more. God gave her to me, and then he took her away. I was angry for a long time. And then I realized God gave me three month to love and be a peace complete unfinished business. It Took me a long time to find my way back to Jesus . so when you see a homeless person , that’s a mother or father, uncle a grandma or grandpa those are people. Some of my family could not make peace with things until they knew she was dying. It was sickening toward my mom didn’t care about going to rodeo drive. They wanted to put a huge angel statue over her grave $25,000 a time ago I said no give the money to the nuns.

When the grand kiddos were little
We’d dream, big eating Rainbow skittles

Illuminating adventures in their mind
Telling fantastical story, to Unwind

They had a room in Nana and Papa‘s home
It was an imaginary place to freely Rome

One year it was the Pirates of the Caribbean
A bunkbed ship top bunk for lookout see’n

large canvas sail and fishnet to the ceiling
Glow paint the night stars realistic feeling

The captains quarters maps for steering
A talking parrot for laughter cheering

Imagination is in the minoot details
Starfish, sharks barnacle on the side rails

Looking at the finished room created
Pirate ship, Sea foam walls, stars stated

Three boys, chose pirate names
For nightly stories are pirate games

Parents  never cool Nana the exception
Mother of invention, honorable mention

Bubble bath ink octopuses perils at sea
Captain jack to the rescue them three

Sleepy time, tea on the Shanghai express
Sail north to dreamland pirates , PJs dress

The story began each pirate made it grand
Ship battles buried treasure in white sand

Imagination fizzled started to fade
An epic Story completed well played

Listen, while the cobwebs feel their head
Prayers said success they’re asleep in bed
Reminiscent Peter Pan and Captain Hook
As they grew, it was super heroes. But each time that room was transformed into The Batt cave , the avengers command center and many other wonderful adventures to be had. Building the room was half the fun. We built it together

Turn coats on the run
Votes up in the air
Undecided everywhere
What will it take to cross the line?

Those who want to turn
Back the hands of Time
Leisurely Sit on their rocking chairs
Afternoons, a gentle breeze, sublime

Decades of time watching the sunset
We honestly no longer can say no regret
Optimism for our future, slowly fades
Reluctantly, we Turn another page

Our world is turned upside down
It’s precarious in our sleepy town
For fun, kids use to drive around
The last bit of fun that can be found

Gang violence overrun, tent cities
They don’t want American’s pities
A heinous Cold Civil War begun
Death to America Everyone

They Demand reparations our homes jobs

Hazardous to fly the American flag

Not to worry it will be OK
You won’t be missed anyway

Mathematics is now racist they say
Slowly taking all our freedoms away
How could this possibly be? Well, Let’s see
(2+2 = 3 ) two plus two equals three

Dumb the children to submission
Using warped basic edition,
But why? First lesson NEVER question
I Will pay you $10 for a days work

I say $4  is ten all subserviently Believe

No more need for propaganda school
Not realizing We are in their control

Sister, Sue, and Mary Lou
CJ Sutherland Sep 2024
Close as two sisters can be
Sister Sue and Mary Lou you’ll see
They grew together then went their way
Bound by emotion. A hug is all they say.

Sister, Sue, and Mary Lou
Twins, lives in twined they grew
They held each other, love and Tears
Streamed through their eyes mixed fears

Every day they spoke on the telephone
Keeping in touch, never felt alone
They mostly got along hardly fought
To find husbands is what they thought

Sister, Sue, and Mary Lou
Were each other’s glue
Boyfriends came and went
Their emotions slowly spent

Even though they lived apart
Relationships shaped The same heart
Couplings unsustainable they’ll broke
Praying perfect companion heaven spoke

A tragic way for sister Sue, and Mary Lou
Destined to be just them too
The closest Bond of love, they knew
They wanted more then sad depressed blue

Time marched by sister, Sue, and Mary Lou
Realized love was not meant to be
If one in love, not the other, Three off-kilter
Through rose colored glasses Jaded filter

It was to be for all to see An emptiness
Brewing in them a deep sadness
This insuperable story of twins,
Who achieved A great deal,

Because they never gave up
They never gave in, they Believed

Baja California along the coast,
a little fishing village Loretto

White Seashell, Sand
I walked along the beach

Everybody was out fishing
to get the catch of the day

I Decided to cool off in the sea
Water Waste high slow Delicate stokes

The taste of salt in the air
Schools of fish everywhere

Bumping, kissing all over my body
Passing by calmly without fear

First, I was afraid I couldn’t move
Until I realized they weren’t piranhas

I enjoyed the majestic
Ambience of the moment

I swim with the fishes
Staying among them

As soon as they came
They were gone

I’ve been pondering this concept for a couple of weeks now. A man behind me at the grocery store had one item. I let him go in front of me, and he was very grateful. I had quite a few things, and I wasn’t in a hurry. He grabbed a few things at the register like most of us do. We got to talking how most people say negative things, and they don’t bother the time to say thank you or a simple kindness. Then when his change came, he told the checker to give it to me one good turn deserves another. He sad smiling. This was a man late 60s early 70s.. He was wearing a Taco Bell apron, ( probably on a break or lunch ) and he gave me his change!

An idiom
Is an expression in the usage of language that is peculiar in of itself.
In having a meaning that cannot be derived from the conjoined words.

Introduction to poetry states;
Avoid Clichés, like the plague
Using idiomatic phrases in poetry
is usually not advisable.

Let’s run through a few;

Let’s cut the suit to fit the cloth
Action speaks louder than words
A penny for your thoughts
A penny saved is a penny earned

At the drop of a hat
Curiosity killed the cat
Better late than never
Out of the frying pan into the fire

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush
Once in a blue moon
I’m live’n high cotton
Hang in there

Let’s get the show on the road
No time like the present,
Let’s not split hairs
On a wild goose chase

Bite the bullet
No guts, no glory
Don’t beat around the bush
I’ll Spill the beans

Under the weather
Your Barking up the wrong tree
It’s raining cats and dogs,
Your bark is worse than your bike

Break a leg
Insult to injury
Don’t stab me in the back
Idioms stick out like a sore thumb

Are you beginning to see the light?

I’m on a roll
A Rolling Stone gathers no moss
Killing two birds with one stone
Hiding in plain sight

Speak of the devil
Come Hell or High water
The devil is in the details
Going down in flames

A blessing in disguise
Don’t count the chickens before they hatch
Go Back to the drawing board
I’ll cross that bridge when we get to it

Not your cup of tea
*** calling the kettle black
Jump on the bandwagon
Throw caution to the wind

Every cloud has a silver lining
Get your head out of the clouds
On cloud nine
Walking on thin ice

Cut me some slack
Get off my back
Let me off the hook
I Finished by the skin of my teeth

I hit the nail on the head
My mind running a million miles a minute
A mind, is a terrible thing to waste
Waste not want not

It’s up in the air
Throw the baby out with the bathwater
Let’s call a today
It’s time to hit the sack

If you know any idioms that I have not mentioned Leave them in comments

Inspired song
If you could read my mind
By Gordon Lightfoot
When I was at the University, clichés
were drilled in our head as faux pas
A respectable poet does not put in poetry.
As an older student who always questioned absolutes, I had to ask why?
What about free verse poetry
I was told even in the lack of structure is structure it depends on what kind of poet you want to be
I considered the source. My professors all had
10 year. In both American and British literature
. I heard the phrase many times in these classes; rules are not meant to be broken.
But the whole purpose of traditional poetry is that there are rules that make each type of poem what it is. That’s why I love poetry,
The structure.
But it is good to be bad sometimes lol
This is my rebellion poem
I’m letting my freak flag fly😎

Isaac Means Laughter
CJ Sutherland Sep 2024
September 9 2024
Today is their Wedding Day
This poem is a celebration of their life
To Isaac and Jessica

They met at a her sister’s wedding
A festive occasion, A beautiful setting
Love at first sight he was smitten
She was as sweet as a baby kitten

From the moment they met,
He never wanted to leave her side
Love has taken them on a wild ride
Emotions in Full display, they don’t hide

May They walk a path together I pray
Young to make a commitment this way
Yes, I took those steps younger still
Time values different I had a strong will

I want him to understand what it takes
I want them to learn from my mistakes
But those are their mistakes to make
Save me a piece of the wedding cake

I remember in my arms he wiggled
Nana kept him safe belly laugh giggled
First the Grand gesture, he takes her hand
When a boy becomes a grown man

The proposal Down on Bended Knee
Grins from ear to ear Happy as they can be
His heart pounding out of his chest
Tongue tied words failed. He did his best.

Wedding Day, He and She became we
A shindig excitement and fear we’ll see
Waiting at The altar, for his bride
They will learn to find their own stride

Together in front of God, they stand
Wedding ceremony completes God‘s plan
The last covenant Between God and man
Life Commitment Full circle Time span

Three Rainbow’s
CJ Sutherland Sep 2024
God’s
Pride
And
Joy

God took back his Rainbow glimpses found
A light breeze disturbed wet ground.
Water glistened in the garden yard
The hose nozzle set on light mist not hard

As I held the hose tip precariously near
Spraying in the air a Rainbow did appear
I followed the Rainbow to it’s other side,
A strong beautiful message God’s Pride

Red yellow purple blue and green
Every color imagined in between
Vivacious vibrant bright and clear
In the mist a Rainbow fully appeared

further back into the yard I persevered
In the mist a second Rainbow appeared
Starting ending in a different spot.
A third time I moved to the back of the lot

Spouting from the end of the nozzle hose
A glorious mist touched my nose
The Rainbow had never appeared before
However why three not four or more

The vibrant colors blessed my eyes
Joyfully an angel’s whimsical Surprise
Three Rainbows blessed the pathway
Heavenly host a miracle per se

Third times a charm I extend my arm
Gracefully swirling mist everywhere
The spray gently moving into the air
I could follow all three Rainbows there.

My daily prayers, in a state of grace
There was a ethereal glow on my face
It happened on the Lord’s day of rest
Observance a Constant struggle my test

God gave me a three Rainbows
Why?  only God knows
Perhaps the Holy Spirit wanted me to smile
For a while I marveled like a little child

Karen’s Quality of Life
CJ Sutherland Sep 2024
Karen returns home from her doctor visit
She has been crying . What is it?
Darren, her husband asked
Getting to the truth his task

Karen whispered as if speaking the words out loud would make it true she knew
“ I have terminal cancer it’s not good”
Darren Shocked to attention yelled NO

As if saying NO would make it so
there’s got to be a way give us another day
If his hug could make it go away,
Her eyes lowered “Insurance will not pay”
Darren “there has to be another plan play”

Karen is strangely, subdued Serene calm
The doctor’s news was a ticking time bomb
Darren couldn’t see her silent cries
Yelling, begging a million why, lord why!

The doctor asked; what do you want out of life? Cancer in a plateau how much farther do you expect to go? California favors assisted suicide Dr. Kavorkjan will reside

There is one answer the only answer we have left. This will put our love to the test.
The doctor will make her comfortable
let nature take its course Doctor knows best

Karen suggests they get a divorce
Releasing the Financial burden of course
expensive medical bills, Cancer kills.
Her cancer is curable with the right pills

But the insurance company will not pay.
If she were rich, nothing left to say,
have the surgery continue on life’s way.
But for Karen. This’ll be her final day.

She could be saved if she had the money,
If her insurance would paid oh honey
The surgery going under the knife
The only thing that could save her life

it’s considered elective ,exploratory.
The same old song and dance new story
Insurance owns all the players in this crime.
Standard denial. appeal process takes time

Time’s lost luxury Go home and Die!.
What is the benefit of living?
A little more time to say goodbye?
Downside; To watch life’s gruesome cry

unrecognizable changes Ravaged by pain
The cost of keeping their loved one insane  Inhumane fact is it comes down to money, ironic, fortuitous, perhaps life it’s not funny

what is your life worth? Are you worth  more dead on this earth  then alive?
Strange contemplation Troubled revelation
to grapple what is the drive and why strive

Karen’s memory
safely ensconced behind protective glass.
My sister had Grace pose class now passed
Her name a smear campaign Society blame
Choose another name to attack those insane

Unfair favoritism
CJ Sutherland Sep 2024
I worked with Medical Dr’s (Bill collector)
They Call me the money protector
Many doctors are big on cronyism
Also equally unsettling nepotism

These are extreme situations
Degradation of employees separations
It creates division among the ranks
Inevitably staff implode, explodes, tanks

When the doctor’s manager is his wife
Happy wife, happy life, hide the knife
If the office Manager is the Dr’s best friend
Incompetence is something to comprehend

The wives make life a living hell
Dr’s Friend it’s too tricky to tell
Pretty young ignorant girls
Blonde silhouette Substantial curls

Perhaps too happy or had too much to say
rubbed the wife or friend the wrong way
Dr caught in the middle of the rift
Favoritism with a twist cynicisms mist

Money is always the bottom line crime
Hand in the cookie jar overtime
Then an attempt to shift the blame
The stories differ yet remains the same

It’s hard to see what’s in front of our face
Lack of honor,  Truth without a trace
Emerging out the other side
Gossip lies backstabbing pride

Beware avoid this hellish nightmare
Self serving money hungry without a Care
Office politics traps and devilish mishaps
Avoid at all cost else your soul will be lost

When interviewed look for the signs
Ask questions have a backbone spine
You’re looking for the best work fit
Time spent in anguish, agony not worth it

Hindsight word to wise else your demise
Evil eyes no surprise when workplace dies
No amount of money is worth this abyss
Find the right fit workplace,  peace Bliss

This poem is a poor attempt to share the
Emotions of 39 years, married 41 together through Music, and all that it implies

The one constant besides
Our Love
is
The Dance
We used to dance in the kitchen
to the beat of the music in our heart
Hand -in-hand we’ll never part.

Music make pictures, and often tell stories, all of them magic all of them true all of the pictures and all of the stories
all of the magic
The music is you…(song)

“We’ve only just begun
To live white lace and promises start out walking and learn to run
and yes “
we’ve only just begun
(song) by Karen Carpenter

Once the honeymoon stage was over, realization set in
Is this as good as it gets?
Disillusion alone, feelings I couldn’t share

“One is the saddest number
that you’ll ever do
two can be as bad as one. it’s the loneliest number since number one
No, it’s the saddest experience
that you’ll ever know.
Yes is the saddest experience
that you’ll never know”
One is the loneliest number (song)
By Three Dog Night

Our Conversations went from
Yes honey, dear, sweetie, to FU,
Do it yourself, Go alone. It got bad

“Hello darkness, my old friend I’ve come to talk to you again because of vision softly
creeping left it’s seeds while I was sleeping
and a vision that was planted in my brain, still remains within the sound of silence”
(Song ) The sound of silence,
By Simon, and Garfunkel

I left for 18 months heart broken
We talked every day but it
seemed to only make it worse
There was no DEARTH of opportunities
to feel the love I needed

“Its too late babe Now it’s too late
though we really did tried to make it something inside has died and I can’t hide and I just can’t fake it”
(Song ) It’s too late  by Carole King

It got REAL rather quickly Yet you stayed
Come Hell or High Water
I gave it to God
even when It got hotter

“I had to find the passage back
to the place I was before
relax said the night man, we are programmed to receive
you can check out anytime you like
  but you can never leave”
(Song) Hotel California by the Eagles

Cervical Cancer the big “C”
Nothing like a crisis to bring a couple together we realized how close we were to walking away. We Turned away from those bad influencers and stay true to each other.

In a marriage, couples wax and wane, they grow together and apart, at the end of the day if you know His faults, and he know yours, and you still want to be together nothing can separate you.

“I can’t remember when you weren’t there when I didn’t care for anyone but you I swear we’ve been through every thing there is can’t remember anything we’ve missed can’t imagine anything the two of us can’t do, through the years you’ve never let me down you’ve turn my life around the sweetest days I found, I found with you through the years it’s better every day you kiss my tears away as long as it’s OK
I’ll stay with you”
(Song) Through the years by Kenny Rogers

We held on to joy despite the pain
  whatever life dished out
Whatever drove us insane
We kissed away, all doubt

People ask “what’s the secret
What’s marriage all about?
I’m baffled by this  my reply
“ we’re both to stubborn to quit”

The truth lay somewhere through the years
We made a sacred Covent
between husband, wife and God.
“In sickness and in health
Tell death do us part
He holds my heart

From dust we are born and
to dust we shall return

Born in diapers
And in diapers.
We shall return

However, that’s not
Even our biggest concern
We learn to rationalize,
Soon it’ll be our turn

However that’s not the
worst of what is to come
Memory loss, the ultimate cost
Dementia, Senility, Alzheimer’s

True it doesn’t happen to all, Just some
Who answers the call
However evidently nobody
will know their outcome

Add in a myriad of
other ailments for good measure
The word “walk” at your own leisure
has a new meaning it’s rather demeaning

Each person’s, inevitable fate
Life’s journey Check Mate
We learn to slow our gate
turn another page life’s gage

Yes we celebrate OLD AGE Ironic, plutonic
Chronic, crate paper crinkles like her skin
Beautiful hands now liver spots wrinkle
and black balloons they think that’s funny. Oh don’t fret honey. Just the Young ins

They don’t understand
What it means to have a good day
No significant illness’ to speak of today
Why do we celebrate so many ask
Living with ailments, is a laborious task

We celebrate;
The life we’ve livedThe love we give
The things we’ve seen places we’ve been
The people we’ve known death shown

The things we’ve done While having fun
In our prime, another day another time
We were bigger than life, 10 feet tall
Even the gladiators eventually fall

Nobody ever ages gracefully
Most Fight it every step of the way
The Golden years worldly and wise
We shrink before our very eyes
Our skin wrinkles sagging
The immense pain ever nagging

The wonders of age and getting old.
A word of the wise don’t believe the lies
It’s not for the weak meek its for the bold
I will age gracefully I’ll never be too old
I have the propensity for living life large

Even knowing
Sickness will bring  us to our knees

Even when I suggested let’s not talk Politics, it didn’t matter. I was no longer their friend. Because I voted for Trump.
I wonder now if I ever truly  had a friendship with them.

Wedding Ring
CJ Sutherland Aug 2024
For a young couple,
Wedding rings a simple gold band plain
The more money the couples makes
The ring the price becomes insane

The three C’s; Cut, clarity, Carat weight
Global standards diamond quality great

These Diamond standards Dictate price,
pretentious perceived prestige nice ice

A pompous show a Garish display
Family, friends envy gush nothing to say

Succumb to the Trappings of wealth
Too Pretentious for their health

With all the crime that I have seen
I stopped Wearing my wedding ring

A Symbol of Fidelity and love
The ring means nothing to God above

Love yes, and so much more
Marriage is not a revolving door

Marriage is a covenant between
God woman and man convene

It’s Not taken lightly a Vegas drunken binge
It’s not for insurance or prenup fringe

It’s the most sacred Vow a couple takes
A lifelong commitment they will made.

10 year anniversary

It’s A ring someone would want to steal.

A long life measured

Time is an interesting thing. The average person lives 80 to 100 years period yet in three days. A fly will live a complete life. Who’s to say three days is not enough time. Time is relative

Moral Compass
CJ Sutherland Aug 2024
The proverbial line was crossed
Her moral compass found her lost
How far down that road will she go?
Traveling the den of iniquity **** show

The Situations she finds along the way
Lessons to learn, things she doesn’t say
Can she see the humanity in the sign?
Or has corruption diluted the test of time?

15-year-old girl’s dilemma at youth group
Struggling right vs wrong ethics to recoup
Meetings at the minister’s home
Her wild wayward youth to atone

The kids were given a 15 minute break.
She don’t know why for goodness sake
In the playhouse on church ground
They smoked *** with no one around?

That’s where she drew the line
For her it was A sacrilegious crime
Not On Church Grounds
Moral High horse she knew how it sounds

She said she would tell,
Her personal persona fell
They said they would say she did it too
That’s when she knew what she had to do

They laughed and lit the joint
Well she realized their position and point
She stood against all her church friends
In front of the minister parents to her end

Spoken truth yelling parents came undone
her world crashed and burned not fun
In ithe end, one friend stood by her side
Morals judgments, it was a wild ride

Many lives were destroyed that day
Repercussions of her moral decay
10+ years to correct what she had done
Before she was happy, smiling , in the sun

Finally she found her stride never alone
She was a gadabout Who was rarely home
souvenirs conquests from who she became
Playing her moral relativism game

What would you do?
When you did not prepare
You lived in a bubble, unaware
Would you watch your family die?
Hunger, pain in your family’s eye

What would you do?
Would you pillage rob steal
Knowing another life you’ll ****
Food needed for the other to survive

They prepared they knew how to stay alive
A life for a life you’re willing to trade
A deal with the Devil nonchalantly made

What would you do?
Kick in your neighbors door
grandmother, the children dead on the floor
So your family need not cry today
Godly, kind people are, easy prey
When you cross that moral line
Breaking God’s Law the ultimate crime

What would you do?
Would you sacrifice one of your own?
For the sake of your existence

A Case or Judas
CJ Sutherland Aug 2024
My grandchild made a case for Judas.
The question
Will Judas go to heaven.?
Although there is no way
to know for sure let’s postulate;

Judas had to do what he did
to fulfill the prophecy.
Was Judas sorry in the end?
Did he realize his actions
Would cause the death of Jesus,?

Did Judas go back to the Pharisees
To return The 30 pieces of silver.?
Did Judas asked for Forgiveness
standing before God?

Who was Judas? Was he of kainite lineage
descendent of Cain, who slain his brotherAble in the garden of Eden ?

Judas was one of Jesus’ disciples.
Jesus taught Judas stories, prophecies.
Our God is a wrathfully God but also a forgiving, loving God. Ultimately,

God wants all of his children in heaven.
Man cannot have one blemish of Sin
Each man has a purpose given by God.
Every point vitiated by this one detail

Judas hung himself. Taking his own life
Thou shall not **** He’s in God’s hands
A Cautionary tale for the living

Durable 8-10-24
Things or people that are durable and remain strong over a period of time. Something that lasts, in good condition.

There are times I will write a poem, and it  will get 20 views. The next poem will get None.
In today’s climate, you’re lucky if you get 10 comment. It’s rather frustrating when you review minimum 30 poems a day and people don’t reciprocate. Sure you benefit from reading their poetry. But when others read your poems, you can get a sense whether you’re on the. Mark or you missed it all together. The societal climate is fickle. However I am blessed to have a community of friends here on HP.

Alzheimer’s VS Dementia
CJ Sutherland Aug 2024
How do you know
      What you don’t know
 If you don’t know it?

Do you know what I mean?

How do you know
What you forgot
   If you forgot it?

Do you know what I mean?

How do you know?

( it’s A pet peeve
when I hear that phrase )

If I knew what you meant,
there would be no
need for Conversation
extrapolating, an explanation!

In the blink of an eye
He climbed the corporate ladder
Known for his business acumen
Now He stares off into space
speaking to no one there

Losing our memory happens
to us all as we get older.
We walk into a room and
forget why we entered.

We forget what we
were going to say.
Constantly losing things
that are right there
in front of us

I can’t even imagine
looking at my love of
40 years and don’t know
who that person is

Alzheimer’s or Dementia
is not only ******* the patient,
but it’s devastating
for the people around them.

It happens so gradual
people don’t notice.
Until it’s unrecognizable.

Media mogul critics
Die hard, cynics

Are all capricious by designs
Don’t step on their land minds

Factitious information
Bait and switch tactics creation

If they say it’s not
It’s what you’re got

Rhetoric and hyperbole
Don’t believe what lying eyes see

Regurgitate Same talking stance
News determine in advance

They want useful idiots. It’s a shame.
While choosing someone else to blame

All the while with a smile
The song remains the same

Song inspired

2) these times are a Changan’ by Bob Dylan
3) The song remains the same Led Zeppelin

That would be, unique
What if they could actually think?
The brain may never
have another drink

As a baby, our hands had
A mind of their own
As a child, we played hand games
Patty cake, Rock paper scissors,
shadow puppets
Now all grown so much life,
our hands have shown

“Cogito ergo sum”
I think therefore, I am

Proper etiquette;

Individually there’s a fraction of their force when they’re united they can pick up

Hold their might tight even in a fight

This is a very special day
Their Wedding Day
A celebration of hoopla
Things are not going as planned
There seems to be a little drama
when it comes to getting their nails painted

Ring finger said to *******
You smudged my nail color on your back
Stop moving “

******* said “I didn’t move. I’m right here.””You keep wiggling about Stop it”
Ring finger” I have to be perfect. Everybody will be looking at my new ring” “ there will be pictures as well!”
The smudge looks like hell”

******* well, it’s taking
too long to dry! I’m losing my cool
I’m gonna flip the bird.”.
I am large and in charge,
I need to be heard”

Ring finger” all the days

This is not the time to play!”

All the fingers started
wiggling in unison
to dry the nail polish quicker

The polish is removed
from the other parts of the hand,
The day continues on as planned.”

When the groom slowly slides the sparkling diamond on Ring Finger
she whispers,” I will wear this ring forever”
