Mum Says I Have Changed
Salmabanu Hatim Jan 2023
Yes mum I have changed,
I am married,
I used to sleep on your lap,
Now I sleep in her arms.
You used to nag me for not doing this or that,
Now she has taken over the job.
Like you she is the Minister of Home Affairs of our house,
Kind and devoted to us
Though she always wins any arguments,
For peace I shut up even if I am right.
Dad used to help you with housework,
Though he came home tired ,
My situation is same.
Before I had my own  room
and I slept alone,
Nobody dared enter without my permission,
Now she is the queen of our room.
Before I was my father's child,
Now I am the father of my child,
So mum understand, conditions have changed,
But underneath I am still your son who loves you a lot,
Smile and give us your blessings.

Salmabanu Hatim Jan 2023

And does what you request him to do,
He is yours.
If he does not listen and expect you to do what he says,
He never was yours,

Merry Christmas
Salmabanu Hatim Dec 2022
Jingle money, jingle money, jingle all the way,
Santa Claus is coming with bags of money in one horse
open sleigh.
Dropping money like it's pouring down the chimney for you and me.
Put the heater on
Don't mind if the electricity bills soar,
Let today be nice and warm.
Jingle money, jingle money,
jingle all the way,
Santa Claus is coming with bags of money in a one horse
open sleigh,
Falling, falling all the greens in the snow,
Come gather the dough,
Have the tables laden with food and more,
And have Christmas trees lighted with gifts for all.
Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle
all the way,
Bells on Bob tails sing,
Making spirits bright,
What fun it is to have a Christmas full of money.

Prayers is talking to Allah,
After prayers you can beseech for anything you want or need,
I asked for a Ferrari,
He gave me a second hand Peugeot,
And made me a car mechanic.
I asked for a beautiful model like wife,
He gave me a wife with a beautiful soul plus a good cook,
Who made my house into a home.
Now I appreciate the beauties on T.V. with my wife.

We irriate each other,

From my Perspective
Salmabanu Hatim Dec 2022
Giving a little is better,
Than giving in abundance
And flaunting about  it.
I don't give out charity to NGO's or Foundations,
I don't have that much money,
For me my need of giving is greater than the one receiving it.
I never haggle  about prices with hawkers, street vendors or at market places,
For they are day to day earners,
And if they earn a bit more from us they can buy necessities for their children.
I always make a point to visit my friends, family and  neighbours who are sick,
Donate some of my savings
To those in need to cover medical bills.
I also visit the elderly and widows and help them in any way I can.
You must look out for your workers as you would your own.
And I try my utmost to do that.
Being God conscious and doing good deeds is the purpose of my life.

When the Phones
Salmabanu Hatim Dec 2022
Were tied with a wire,
Our lives were free,
We parents had time for our children.
Now slowly we are making our children dependent on smart phones,
Willingly leashing them to silent oppressors termed as mobiles  touch screens ipads...
We have replaced our children's Teddy bear,
Meant for comfort and a sense of belonging with a mobile.
Children don't wait eagerly for us to come home,
But to get our mobile or our old one ,
And we easily give in,
Using  mobiles as a pseudo defence system against our children.
At a tender age,
To make our work easier.
We give them mobiles to distract them when they are whining about something,
To get rid of their tantrums.
To shut them up instead of good parenting,
When we are too busy to give them time or interact,
Truly we need technological detox ,
For you reap what you sow,
As we age
Our children will have no time for us,
Cause we never had time to bond with them
Or understand the beauty of a relationship.

You and I,
Were meant to be forever,
You left.
Now my mind misses our memories ,
My heart aches for you,
And my soul cries for you,
Every cell of my body yearns for you.
I have to let go,
Allah needed you more,
You have gone to a better place,
Free from all your pains and anguish,
You will always stay in my heart.

How To Keep Your Man
Salmabanu Hatim Nov 2022
By your side,
Though you may be better than him and earn more,
Don't act smart,
Instead build him up not down,
Don't nag,
Talk to him and listen to him.
Let him be the head of the family,
Make him feel you are dependent on him,
Let him handle all bills,
All repair works around the house,
Be coy, be grateful,
And show him how much he is needed,
And remember in a fail situation
Use your most important weapon TEARS.
They always work magic.

Men and women
Salmabanu Hatim Nov 2022
Are different,
Their anatomy is different,
The pitch of their voice is different,
The way they walk, talk and dress is different,
Even grammatically you use
He for man,
She for woman,
Men don't get pregnant,
Only women are blessed with that gift.
If Allah has made women different from men,
Why do we strive to be equal.
Yes, women can be empowered,
And strive to better men,
But, cannot be their equal.
Allah has created everything with a reason,
And women have a special place.

My self worth
Salmabanu Hatim Nov 2022
Is more than I deserve,
I am grateful.
I had parents who doted on me,
I was very stubborn,
And sometimes they would bend to my whims,
Though often they gave more attention to my other siblings,
I knew I was loved too,
I became a daughter they were proud to have.
A devoted husband,
With several flaws,
Though being perfect would  have made him less human,
And very devoted would bear doubts in my mind,
I adjusted and  overlooked his bearable flaws,
I became a wife he would want to spend his life with.
My children had learned not to lie to get away with things,
If they did their conscious would ***** them,
Cause whatever wrong they did,
If they told the truth,
There was no punishment,
But a solution was sought.
My  son had an OCD of breaking things,
Either he thought it was a game or it was his curiosity,
We made sure not to keep anything within his reach.
Though he was naughty he was loveable.
On the other hand my daughter was bubbly  talkative and full of laughter,
I had no problem with her,
She took care of her things,
Helped me around the house,
And always did what she was told,
I became a mother they could confide in and share their secrets.
I am close too with my siblings and their family,
And to me their children are like my own,
They also give me the same respect and love.
My self worth is my positive attitude towards life,
And accepting my faults,
I am truly blessed.

My Life My Way
Salmabanu Hatim Nov 2022
As a child I lived my life the way my parents wanted,
After marriage the way my husband wanted,
Society wanted.
I was not perfect but I tried my best with my children,
Try my best to adjust,
Living on the opinions of others.
Now, as I am aging I want to live quietly and alone ,
I don't want anyone to judge me the way I live,
Let me be,
Do what I want to do,
Not do everything the doctor says,
Indulge in eating few things not allowed for me,
In limits,
At least my taste buds are happy.
