I heard a cry in the night,
A thousand miles it came,
Sharp as a flash of light,
My name, my name!

It was your voice I heard,
You waked and loved me so—
I send you back this word,
I know, I know!
They say that God lives very high;
But if you look above the pines
You cannot see our God; and why?

And if you dig down in the mines,
You never see Him in the gold,
Though from Him all that’s glory shines.

God is so good, He wears a fold
Of heaven and earth across His face,
Like secrets kept, for love, untold.

But still I feel that His embrace
Slides down by thrills, through all things made,
Through sight and sound of every place;

As if my tender mother laid
On my shut lids her kisses’ pressure,
Half waking me at night, and said,
“Who kissed you through the dark, dear guesser?”

We spend our first nine months in
small sacks of transparent, rosy
membranes and indigo-blue veins.

Floating in the fluid darkness,
we breath in time to the beat
of waves rising and breaking

rushing in and out of unseen chambers
of the heart. Existence is a pulsing communion
with God in the ebb and flow of silence

before we wash ashore on the dry banks
of the canal and learn to scream.
My nephew was born small and wrinkled

into latex gloves, with fluid in his lungs.
Brushing my pinky against his petal-fragile
skin, I think of the tides and

the people who return to them with
stones in their pockets, surrendering
to the crashing of salt and heaven

as the first mother fills them
in an inversion of that Egyptian
myth of creation—a small piece of the world

sinking back into Nu’s cold embrace
—and something old and fiercely bright
rises up, overflowing into my smile,

hot and sweet. My eyes burn red against
the late November air as the origins of love
wash me clean.
I can't
Because every
Thing feels
Like its crashing over and
My shore just crumbles
With every wave.
Let me take you to a place where the sun is shining.
Where there is no misery or agony.
Let me guide you home and get you out of this darkness.
Take my hand, I’ll hold you close.

Smile.

Come here, let's sit on our own.
There is nothing you should fear.
I swear I'll dry your tears.
Open your eyes, you're not alone.

We’re together in this.
I’ll scare your demons away, infect them with my light.
I’ll be there to catch you when you fall apart.
I’ll end your fright.

Laugh.

See the colors all around.
See the moonlight, see the stars.
Hear the silence, hear my voice
Let it be your only thought

Open your heart.
I'm coming in
I'm cleaning everything
Let yourself be free

I promise I won't ever hurt you
I’ll be your hope,
Your light
Your savior

I’ll pick up the pieces of your broken heart,
Glue them back together
I’ll keep them safe inside.
Let me keep you warm at night

I promise I wont let you down
Hush
Turn the lights back on
Feel my touch.

Take a deep breath, smell the flowers
enjoy the silence.
Lets lay here just a few seconds
Because there's no anger or violence

No pain or blood.
Can we stay here for hours?
I’ll wipe out every sign of pain you’ve ever had
I’ll end the sorrow that’s in your heart

Let me take you to a place where the sun is shining
Follow me.
Where there is no misery or agony
We’ll run forever

Let me guide you home and get you out of this darkness
Lets hide together, no one will find us. Not now or never.
See the moonlight, see the stars
See the raindrops as they fall

Hear the silence, hear my voice
Take my hand I’ll hold you close
Feel the wind, feel the peace
Feel the tears as they dry on your cheek

Keep on going, you're strong enough
Look at my smile
Listen to my words
I promise I wont let you down

That oh so lazy comfort
Warm and content
Knowing that you slept well
And dreamt even better
Immobilized by your visions
Wanting only to close these eyes
To re enter the dream world
Outside the covers is a cold world
One you do not have the slightest interest for
Because she won't be there when your eyes are open
So you're simply tempted to lay back down
Shut your eyes tight
To lose yourself again
Begging for more
Because you don't want to do anything
But be with her again
So happy just buried in pillows
Taken away to some outlandish paradise
Soft and smoothly encased in warm cozy blankets
That through your dreaming eyes
Those blankets wrapped around you
Are really her lips wrapped around yours
The thought of leaving this place is unbearable
Nothing bad happens here
It's when the daylight wrenches my eyes open
To bring me back to earth
That I realize
I don't want to be here
Alone
I just want to lay here forever
To go back to my paradise
I'm with her in my dreams. Happier than ever. Awakened by daylight, separate us harshly. I shut my eyes, wanting only to go back. To be with her. To hold her, to kiss her. To dream of her

She  was one who dreamed of dragons
Of towers
Of tyrants
Of kings
The angel whose only plea was for you not to clip her wings
And days
And page
And magical mage
Would go and their stories would ring
Until a whole world was made just for a girl
In the stories of dragon, damsels, and kings
Visions of sugar plums
Dance in my head
Until you so rudely
get up on stage
as if to say
Oh no nothing pleasant
think of it like this:
New clothes? Cool
but who will you wear them for?
New lip gloss? That's neat
but who will kiss your glossy lips
ever so sweet?
Merry christmas?Is it really?
When you're only an interruption
A corruption of my mind
And not simply a sweetner to my christmas cookies
