i have no real dreams to speak of
i speak of my nightmares even less
i am just trying to reach the peak of
that mountain, where i am blessed

material goals aren't what i talk of
spiritual goals, i talk of more
i am just trying to walk the walk of
those spirits who walked before
My day gets started early
I am up before the dawn
I do yardwork for a living
I get up to cut the lawn

Each morning brings another
Job that must be done
I've got just so many hours
I'm racing barefoot with the sun

They say that Time is Money
And I am always overdrawn
I wake up for work each morning
I blink twice, my day is gone
The only ending to my problem
Is when the snow begins to blow
That's when everything lies dormant
Waiting for the spring to grow

The trees drop leaves like crazy
An orange carpet all around
I have to mulch their golden cover
I can't just leave it on the ground

I fertilize and aerate
I trim the hedges by the drive
I pull the weeds there in the garden
I help to make your plants survive

They say that Time is Money
And I am always overdrawn
I wake up for work each morning
I blink twice, my day is gone
The only ending to my problem
Is when the snow begins to blow
That's when everything lies dormant
Waiting for the spring to grow

It's not a job for many
In fact it's not a job for most
Each year we hire newbies
And in three weeks most are toast

I wake up every morning
Hit the floor, I'm on the run
This ain't the job for many
But for me, it is the one.

They say that Time is Money
And I am always overdrawn
I wake up for work each morning
I blink twice, my day is gone
The only ending to my problem
Is when the snow begins to blow
That's when everything lies dormant
Waiting for the spring to grow

Missed chances
No second glances
Rewind the tape
Can't we escape
The childhood restraints
The loud mouthed complaints
The hate filled debate
The box of constraints
The mothers tug of war
Couldn't they see what we saw?
There was so much more to give
Two lives to live
Forever entwined
What would you do if you could rewind
Turn the hands back
Minds open as hearts beat
We can't let anyone defeat
We have the full circle to complete
Why did they compete
Heart strings pulled until the snapped
Umbilical chord her discord
Like bungee rope
It left no scope
Only self doubt no hope
I walked forward with a space at my side
Something inside withered then died
I wanted you to see the resurrection
To release me from my purgatory
Was it so wrong at such a young age
To recognise perfection in our limited days
So much time treading water
When I knew where I belonged
You saving me from drowning
Whilst being a dutiful daughter
Days became weeks
Your voice pushed to a corner of my heart
I heard whispers down the years
I pulled the wool over my ears
I could still see your face
In all the places we'd been
One day you will come back for me
You were the one who I called home
My safety net my calm in the storm
So I sit with my face in my hands
As I slowly watch the grains of sand
The tide is going out you see
Maybe one day you will come back to me.

Of all the random movement
In the world
It seems no one has time
To notice your struggles
Anymore than one is saddened
By a broken sidewalk
Or demolished daisy
And now I know
How far from here
I have to go
The thought of you
Causes me to tremble
Put in simplest terms -
So much for fine words
No one can live up to them
Let me wake from this
Dream of life
And fly finally past the darkness
That reaches out for the darkness
Let us go now into the forest.
Trees will pass by your face,
and I will stop and offer you to them,
but they cannot bend down.
The night watches over its creatures,
except for the pine trees that never change:
the old wounded springs that spring
blessed gum, eternal afternoons.
If they could, the trees would lift you
and carry you from valley to valley,
and you would pass from arm to arm,
a child running
from father to father.
