Magical Night
The winter hare twitched his nose
at the jingling of bells in the distance
A robin sat on a bush watching
a sleigh take to the sky pulled by reindeers, one with a red nose
And the crow sat high in a tree puzzling over
a happy old man trying to squeeze down a chimney
The children slept
as the snowflakes fell

Happy Christmas everyone
if you haven't got a chimney check the mailbox:)

A beautiful site, gliserin in the black cold white star-lit night
floating deep in the depths of that calm ocean
Natures unstoppable force
I watch closely from the safety of my porthole
on mans newest immovable object, Royal Mail Steamer
Hooot, Hooot sounds the call as we pass
too close
They meet
The screams ring out

My home town
I walked back to my hometown
The friends I'd made
the places we'd played
but no one stayed

The fields are now concrete
where we'd roll in the hay
the hours we'd play
till the end of the day

The faces are now strangers
but I'd still nod hello
walking around with nowhere to go
the pace of their lives so slow so slow

I looked back at my hometown
Happy memories and some sad
my mates were the best mates I've ever had
as I placed flowers and blow a kiss to my mam and my dad

I walked out of my hometown
How the time has flown
from boy to a man O how I've grown
back to my family and the place I now call home

Autumn to Winter
Every autumn going into winter
I remember spring going into summer
and long for the smell of the meadows
and the happy songs of the birds
I will hold that memory until
winter has passed

Today
I woke up in the morning and I said to myself
Today it’s gonna be today
So, I looked in the mirror with a sparkling smile
And I said to myself
Today it’s gonna be today
Clicked my heels as I ran out of the door
And I said to myself
Today it’s gonna be today

So, I pushed the door open
and the smile on her face said
Today it’s gonna be today
A deep breath taken
and I blurted out the words
the whole shop shouted
Today he’s gone and done it today

So, if you have something
You should have said
I think you know
Today it’s gonna be today
#just say it

A moment to remember
And when I awoke
I felt your presence and smiled
I turned to you as your eyes opened
and will never forget that feeling
of love, longing, happiness
for as long as I live

Love is enough
I bought you flowers to express my love
You smiled, I wondered was that enough
Then silver I bought you and I know not why
I noticed the sad glint in your eye
Gold and diamonds were my next choice
You gasped with delight yet still no voice
Then I bought you nothing but expressed my love
You said that's all I wanted off you, my love

Karl Jenkins
When the music takes you to new heights
you'll hover over mountains to marvel at the sight
Then a cord change takes you through fields of corn
watch the sunrise and dream of the new dawn
The strings lift you higher than ever before
as you find yourself peering at heavens door
Till the cello grounds you with its deep low base
as you fly off to the depths of space
Then as your eye slowly open and your senses come to land
you find you are guiding the music with the wave of your hand

Bonnie and Clyde
The storm clouds grow over that Glaswegian city
and the rain keeps falling
streams turn to rivers
and rivers turn to destruction
crushing the barriers that corral them
turning homes in to floating battering rams
as they snake there way to the Atlantic  Ocean

All is not lost.
Our mentors are meeting in Bonnie Scotland on the Clyde
How apt.

Demons in the night
The nights a lonely place when the demons are in you head
You mull around for hours picking holes in what was said
Your eyes are wide open your head is in a spin
You growl at the curtains for letting a ***** of light in

Then you gather up your thoughts and very deeply breath
You head slowly clears as the demons start to leave
You concentrate in breathing deeply through your nose
Then just when you're not expecting it your eyes start to close

Honey I'm home
I smelt you on his collar when he came home late from work
Your name is on his texts, he laughs, then eyes me with a smirk
I look at him and smile but think, O what a F** ****
I can't wait until the morning when I pack him back off to work

He shouts I'll see you later honey, but I may be late
My bags are packed the taxis here I'm off to meet my fate
He came home to silence, eyes wide open as he closed the gate
I'm not home honey, neither were you and I just couldn't wait

Is this really it?
Like an ant I walk on the forest floor
I hid under leaves from the midday mayhem
Finding my own way in a wilderness of rotting flesh
Until I come across an oasis of a green unspoilt eden
I see the dark clouds rolling toward me
Not a leaf in sight
All there is is bad news

In the shadows
Lost and alone, ignored and put on
are the stripes you earn at the bottom of the pile

But I worked hard to be noticed
and notice I was, who could ignore my infectious smile

Then one day I looked down out of my executive suite
at the people piled high, working up from the street

I remembered the boy who was lost and alone
who worked like a dog till it was time to go home

So,
I look for me in the shadows
at the bottom of the pile
Yes, you I'm looking for, you with the infectious smile

Behind the curtain
When the last tune plays and the curtain closes
smile and remember
my body was the just a vessel
that brought me to you
but the memory of me
is a full challis that you can sip from
until those memories fade
and you are ready to uncork
another vintage

Even in death
Life goes on

A smile and a blush
I remember that summer day
so long ago now
the wind dancing with the corn
sun ripening the fruit

You held my hand
with that look and a smile so bright
I smiled
my heart racing  in agreement

We walked and ran
lay on a golden bed of corn
I felt like a goddess in your arms
the silence overwhelmed us

We lay
Naked
I’m there with you now
I remember that day
with a smile and a blush

Can you taste Christmas
Can you taste Christmas on the winter wind
watching the grey snow clouds gather
smoke drifts from the tall, tall chimneys
you can taste the kindling in the air

Heavy clouds break under the strain
white flakes fall on the face
of the red cheeked children
excited
as they leave school for the winter break
later, snowmen gather in the streets
coal black eyes
mother’s collecting their vegetables off their sad faces
as the children play on frosted fields

Silence gathers
as golden light shines through the tired wooden windows
night falls
peace
until the morning light brings more snow
the children are barred until breakfast is done
then the sky is lite with the voices of all
the happy children
playing

You can taste Christmas on the winter wind

The empty picnic table
A light wind picked up and carried leftover crumbs, gently laying them on a crisp brown sycamore leaf

The ants were busy carrying away bits of sausage, rolled in pastry which flaked off as they ran

A robin watched on excitedly until a squirrel grabbed the sausage roll and stuffed it in his cheek

Not despondent the ants spied the sycamore leaf and its contents

Remains of a ham and cheese sandwich flew in the magpies mouth to the nearest branch

The robin amused itself by watching a sycamore leaf racing across the grass before it finished off the fallen pastry flakes

The picnic table was now empty

we gave loving tales, loved till the very end

It lingered for a while, no for a lifetime
Only on the day my eyes closed did the taste drifted away
Did you smell it, can you smell it now?

Being polled.
I heard your voice, your promises, your regrets
your passion, your desire, your honesty.

I looked into your eyes, they told me to trust what I see,
only you can change my world, only you.

You lied.

I will never vote for you or your kind again. X

I ponder
The world spins though we are flat
The magician the rabbit and the black top hat
We live to die to meet our maker
13 loaves equal a dozen said the baker
Then when the sun sets on your sleepy face
The moon the stars stare deep into space
So, we try to make sence, knowledge gives us the thirst
Was it the chicken or the egg that came here first

Remember that old song!
When the music takes you from the place you're in
And touches your soul so deep within

Words with meanings from the depth of space
And the smiles that follow in your old happy place

Transports you to a time you have longed to be
The place in your soul when you were young and free

Now as the needle skips on that old 45
You remember the feeling when you were young and alive

Time is called
The fires are burning brightly in the little stone cottages of this dying village.
After their last day at work, the men walk the cobble stones for the last time.
With news to share with their families, some pause at the local inn to contemplate.

The rain falls and the children huddle around the bright burning coal fire hacked from the face by their father.
Waiting for his smile to round the door and supper to be served.

The ****** blows for the last time, as a miners sit sipping their ale thinking of the men and boys left to haunt the empty tram ways and coal faces.
Do they feel lucky, not tonight, just betrayed and alone?

Time is called

Shadows of my mind
I hear the creak of an unopened door
and a voice I've never heard before
Telling me things I would not contemplate
about a world of  greed a world of hate

I held the door closed with all my might
block my ears, shut my eyes tight
Called for help from deep within
keep calm a kind voice called, you are not the sin

I untangle my mind from the world full of hate
only love and friendship I would now contemplate
The voices became silent as they were long before
so, I turned the key on that unopened door

and I wondered why

I still remember your smile and I still wonder
if you new

The night elves
When the moon is lost in a cloudless sky
Be aware it's the time that the night elves fly

They hover at each house as our children sleep
In search of the sweet dreams of our children to reap

Our duty of care is to secure the windows closed tight
Or our children's sweet dreams may be lost to the night

So guard your children's dreams from the thief of the night
Until the opening of dawn at the breaking of light

Dance of the moonlight
Deep in the forest at the turning of the moon
Lovers embrace and dance to their favourite tune

As she floats over the leaves in a well-cut flowing dress
His hand float to her waste in a soft loving caress

Their movement leaves a breath, that sways the glowing due
Faces meet, as smiles grow wide, he’s right this is his cue

Their lips touch, a breath is taken, a taste of love flows in
Her heart stopped for that moment, now it’s his to love, to win

But the moon turned and time was lost, the forest laid quite still
Who will dare to have the next dance?
I’ll dance with you if you will
I was only loved a little
But I was loved
and that is all I needed

The small things in life
To wake up in the morning
without too much of an ache

To Barbie with friends
with fresh bread and a steak

To have that conversation that
makes you feel good to be alive

Like bringing nectar from a flower
for your friends at the hive

But the greatest prize in life to be won

Is raising good children a daughter a son

After the storm
Squirrels danced around the great oak tree
unaware
The sighthound spied from a distance
appraising his chances

instinct took over

Squirrels danced around the great oak tree
with a grin, one eye on the hound

A whippet danced around the great oak tree
aware of the grins
of the squirrels above
wishing he could fly
All happened today before the rain came back

The wind played
We lay in a field of barley
you smoothed my hair as the wind played
I told you my deepest dreams

You held them in your soft silken hands
and smiled
Then crushed them into sand

I lay in a field of barley, alone
dreaming
I ponder how long I will sit in your chair
As I lift my right hand and let it run through my hair.

Your concentration is attached to your computer screen
As I study with disdain at your office colour scheme.

I shuffle my seat and aim a smiling glare
Just a reminder that I'm still sat there

You click BUY, to late with a sigh and a yelp
Then look at me with a smile, and say how can I help

I ponder the question, do you really give a ****?
I say, thanks very much I don't think you can

Retirement
Well I've walked the dog and patted the cat
Washed the dishes and hoovered the mat

Broke up the crusts a feast for the birds
Finished the crossword with all the wrong words

Screamed at the squirrels who ate all the bread
Sat on the sofa I think I'm ready for bed

Checked all my emails and texts on the phone
Now it's time to get tea ready for when the misses comes home

What a day:)

My old mates
I sit in my pub snug, and I wait for my mates to arrive
For a year I've not heard or seen them, I hope their alive

The first taste of my beer is like my coming of age
Like the rest of my life as I turn a new page

I've been in isolation I've been lost and then found
On many occasions I'd thought I'd be deep underground

So, I smile at the new regulars they smile at me back
So nice to see you, as they pat my frail back

Alone I still sit, sad my mates never came
I sigh, as I supped, my life will never be the same

"Bartender" another beer to help this old man survive
As he sat and he waited for his mates to arrive
The end of lockdown, but not the end.

The look
The days are dark, and then the night
My bodies so worn, devoid of fight
Can escape this world and just take flight
I wish I could with all my might

The look in your eyes gives me the will to fight
Carries me through the dark days to a restful night
I'll return to my world on the next incoming flight
To fight for my life with all of my might
Tomorrow will be a better day.
Life came back to normal for that one great day
The smiles on the faces the children at play

We all woke up to snow covered ground
Roads no tracks, roads no sound

The fields of green were covered in white
Children screamed with laughter and with fright
As they toboggan down the hill twas a wonderful site

Then the night faded and the light gave way
Back to our homes, lock-down, and another day
