When life is locked down in a single place
We’re strapped in chairs but seem to run for miles
Our minds explore a vast and boundless space

I flit from call to call at frantic pace
My children print and scan their homework files
When life is locked down in a single place

I read, I write, I learn new tracks and trace
the course of Covid racing through the miles
Our minds explore a vast and boundless space

From day to night to day a carapace
cocoons us; doctors pace up ailing aisles
When life is locked down in a single place

I drill, I dream, I seek and find headspace
And call loved ones to see their smartphone smiles
Our minds explore a vast and boundless space

We run, we rest, we’re cursed, we’re blessed, we race
to live, survive and thrive in countless styles
When life is locked down in a single place
Our minds explore a vast and boundless space

Oh give me a book, a frivolous book
A book that I can read
To take me away, from a stressful day
The frantic life I lead

Where stories unfold, of characters bold,
In distant far-off places
Of interesting deeds and inspiring creeds
As well as curious cases

I just want a tale, a diverting trail
To freshen up my mind
I don’t want to think, or ponder the link
To problems of mankind

A tale that feels good, of worries withstood
Of life and love and laughter
Of people who strive, who struggle then thrive,
Happily ever after

A tale I can end, that is my best friend
For just an hour or two
And then, I’m all set, to go back and get
on with my life, anew!
